At least shuttles would be neat, maybe come under fire on the way down.

One thing they can do, is if you approach a planet in your shuttle (or landing capable starship) the pop-up gives you the choice to beam down or land.

    ---[Loading screen]---

Cut to your craft performing pre-scripted sequences over the map, maybe giving you a glimpse of the map

    ---[loading screen]---

You are at the starting area with your shuttle (or landing capable starship) nearby, or in the distance.

    Mission plays as normal.

I could see this being limited to ground-based missions only.
(and logically, losing the "oribtal strike" ability)

they could do it like Mass Effect 2, you allways see a cutscene where the shuttle Lands, then your team is outside the shuttle and that is where the gameplay starts, later you go back to the shuttle to leave the planet.

that would be the *easy* way to do it, since we dont have *real* Planets but only movie sets we will never see a Shuttle actualy fly down and land.

but i actually thought about something else,
how about a Battle scene inside a very low orbit, be it with shuttles + local Aircraft, or the main player ship...
there would be gravity pulling you down, you have to make sure not to get to slow or you crash, you are not allowed to fly to much down or you crash, and for random plot reason X you can't fly up again until the enemy is destroyed.... shuttle may land after the air show....

imagine it visually kinda like this (that is Freelancer, battle inside a dysons sphere, just imagine it beeing a planet instead and seeing space upwards).

apply atmospheric flight to the game, so when we go into the planets atmosphere we eather be prompted with a menu saying "Do you wish to land" and you click yes or no, and if yes you have one of those special loading screens and then youll find yourself later after the loading screen in your shuttle and you can pilot it to a designated location on the planet, and then leave your ship and begin the mission

That would be nice but you would need a shuttle and you could be flying above the surface to PICK a spot to land.
