Before I begin, I should say that I have a basic knowledge of the "technical stuff" when it comes to computers, so forgive me if I'm not being clear or just generally look silly.
Okay, so I went to the Nvidia website to see how antiquated my Graphics card driver was and after entering my cards details it told me a new driver was available, so I installed it and did a reboot then launched STO.
First thing I noticed was loading times were longer, after loading and before character selection I had a plain blue screen with a small wire-frame box in the center of my screen, then when character selection appeared I got a plain light-blue box were my selected character should have been, all of the other stuff on this screen appeared correctly. After choosing my character and loading my character who was on ESD, I noticed some strange things that should not have been displaying as they were.
I quit out and reloaded my launcher, I did a force verify and then started in safe mode, the game started as It did before these issues however after selecting my character the game crashed and quit out to my desktop and a pop-up saying Game-client has stopped working. This was the details from that crash info:

This is the driver I installed:
Version: 266.58 WHQL
Release Date: 2011.01.18
Operating System: Windows Vista 64-bit, Windows 7 64-bit
Language: English (UK)
File Size: 165 MB
I rolled back to my previous and older driver and the game works fine. If anyone knows if the 266.58 driver is just buggy when it comes to STO or if there is something I should be doing I would be grateful.

It would help if you could post a DXDiag from your PC (It'll list all the hardware specs and the divers you're using; whether it's a laptop, or a desktop, etc.) That would help in getting you a more direct/better answer to your question.:)
My computer is by no means special when it comes to gaming, in fact I could probably do with a better Graphics card and a bit more RAM. I Uninstalled my old driver and installed the new one again, now I'm lucky if I can even get STO to load. I'm in the process of trying to find my old driver to reinstall, the uninstall wiped it of my system and like the idiot that I am I didn't have a backup of it so till I get something sorted out I got no STO, I have attached the report from my DxDiag.
Edit: I have been able to log in, but I am seeing UI glitches like on my power tray with icons that are flashing and on NPC's/Other Players I am seeing invisible body parts, for example I could see another player normally with the exception of an invisible torso or a player with an invisible head, also in sector space I sometimes have an invisible ship where all I see is the trails from my warp/impulse engines. I cant find my old driver which worked fine with the game but I can try downloading older drivers from Nvidia's archives, but I would rather see what advice I could get before toying around with my system.

Hate to say this but:
The NVIDIA GeForce 7100
Is quite a bit below the minimum VC specs for STO. I'm amazed the game is playable for you.
Minimum VC spec is a Nvidia 7950; (and even that will run nthe game slow as I had 2 in Nvidia SLI mode that I used for closed beta and the first few months the game was out; so it might be the new driver is doing something in STO that your card doesn't support very well; thus the problems. Since it's a Packard Bell, I don't know what kind of Power Supply you have, (ie it might not have the Wattage to support a newer card, but ANY VC upgrade to any old 8800, 9800, or more current 200, or 400 series Nvidia card would do wonders for you (if your Power supply can handle it).

Heh heh, thanks for the input, I'll look into the cards you mentioned and see If I can find a site that can help me upgrade my Packard Bell to run STO better.
Hrm NVidia video card .. Game crashing horribly .. and windows 7.. The only thing left is to say that you are running AVG as your anti virus.
I had this issue where the computer would freeze horribly and then go blue screen of death on me when I tried to restart. Solution was simply to change from AVG to Avast and no problems ever since.

No AVG on my machine, my AV is McAfee. I have had great help in the past fromthe guy's on the Avast forums with them solving a problem I had an recommending things like Malwarebytes and Secunia, I had considered switching to Avast.
Actually the reason I suggested it is not to single out any particular anti virus program but it was down to a scouring of windows events in the log. It showed that some program (no names) was basically trying to load every single library at startup and so was causing a freeze. The microsoft tech guys had actually put this down to a Kapersky issue and suggested changing his anti virus.
I followed this advice even though it was not 100% applicable to my own antivirus and it still worked. May be worth disabling macafee temporarily and seeing if it does fix your problem before spending money on uprated hardware, especially if you were able to play the game well before your recent issues.

I turned my AV off and no change.
Edit: I'm going to Download an older driver from Nvidia and then after some research get a new graphics card for my PC, it's a standard integrated Graphics setup and the Motherboard does have an empty PCI-e 16x slot albeit with a compact case, from looking around and googling for info I have seen GeForce GT 210 Graphics Card 512MB PCI-E which is a small card and a 200 series so pending info from my posts on other forums that's what I may get.... I think.
