Not sure where this would go so I'll post it here and let a mod move it to a more appropriate forum if need be.

So I'm sure we have all heard about the disaster in Japan. Well today I saw a statistic that showed that so far the amount of money raised for Japanese relief is laggin far behind the money raised for Haiti and Katrina.

I would like to suggest that over a certain time period, perhaps a week or over a weekend, Cryptic pledge to donate a aportion of C-Store profits to the Tsunami refief. Not only would this be a good thing to do for Japan but Cryptic could profit aswell.

Personally I have already donated to the Red Cross and will be donating more in the future. I am personally on the fence about a number of C-Store items and if Cryptic did this it would probably drive me over the edge on a few of them.

As George Takei said we are all Japanese today.

Very nice suggestion. I read NCSoft is donating 500 million Yen (about 4.5 million US dollars - around 1 month sales for them) to the relief efforts over in Japan.

    no.

there is many ways to give money to help out. the funds from the c-store should be used to help fund the game.

People who would like to donate towards the situation in Japan should do so both personally(not through Cryptic) and through the charity of their choice(not through whichever one Cryptic would choose for them).

    Wow. Just wow.

Don't dare riding the moral high horse sir! Don't you dare!

Where is all that effort when it comes to helping the homeless, the starving, the millions of war orphans, millions of refuges all around the world at any given time?

Noooooooooooooooooooo if some natural disaster strikes some country and the news vomit their BS THEN you are all "uuhh ohh someone better help those people!"

Everyday there are people in dire need of help. Organizations dedicated to helping those people - organizations that are in need of funds. Take a good look around whatever country you are in, you will find plenty of charity works that needs doing and funding. No need to watch to one of the richest nations just because they got wrecked by a wave and now pay for keeping their Powerplant running despite the fact that they wanted to shut it down over 20 years ago for security reasons but didn't because of lobbyism and greed. Yeah. It sucks for them, but honestly this was a boomerang long due for a return hit to the crotch and in a few years when the first EU based Plant goes out of control then, perhaps then some people might recognize the value in phasing out those old plants before they cause a local apocalypse.

    Do not donate for japan.

Donate for your local charity services.
Donate to victims ofa crisis in your own country
Donate for cancer and aids research.
Donate for something USEFUL and TO THOSE WHO NEED IT.

Japan does not need it. Sure they WANT it but there is no reason a rich country should not be asked to shoulder its selfmade disasters itself.

How about not buying that military hardware this year? Plenty of BILLIONS to put to other good uses.

This is not a rant against charity and donations. This is a rant against hypocritical and stupid donations and charity.

Seriously, how do you sleep at night?

Suffering of any kind, regardless of where it is, should be addressed and the people helped. Period.

I certainly hope others will be as kind to you as you seem to be toward them should you ever fall on hard times.

I honestly pity people like yourself.

Well, this is the internet which is a hornets nest to start out with. I think your idea was ok just not using the c-store funds to help out. It should be the people who want to help give the funds to the group they want.

well at least this is in ten forward... either this thread will die soon or become a flame war.

How about you join the effort to cooldown the reactor? Or just go fly over help pick up the debris?

It's never anyone else's job to tell someone where to make their charitable contributions, or if even to make any. Pointing out a need is fine, but that's where it should stop. Otherwise you're setting yourself as an abitrator over which causes are more or less worthwhile than another. Afterall, resources and the ability to give aren't infinite.

Yup. So are other gaming companies which makes the OPs suggestion not unheard of.

How do you know I am not in Japan to begin with?

The very fact that you could make such hateful and disgusting remarks in a thread that is kindly offering a suggestion toward showing support to our fellow human beings during a time of crisis is revolting.

    Hateful? Disgusting?

Just because i suggest that there are plenty of other causes that are much more in need of funding than japan? Because, you know, japan IS FRICKIN RICH and can take care of itself?

Am i wrong pointing this little detail out to you people?

I think this was already in flames before it got here, don't blame us!
Japan is one of the richest nation states in the world.i feel somewhat less than inclined to donate them anything.

I have a lot of thoughts before I choose how I feel about a matter. This thought also crossed my mind. A lot of people probably feel the same way. Most of the electronics in my house sent a large sack of coin over to Japan already, why should I donate more?

Well, after this thought, my next thought was what can the money do over there? So some of the people over there in the disaster area may have had hundreds of dollars I'd sent over. The problem is -- there's no infrastructure in those areas to spend it. If they're hungry, they can't walk to a store to buy a pretzel because the store is gone. :( There's no way to spend the money, so it's pretty much useless. The money has to be there in a different format. Money that the Red Cross has goes in to what these people need: blankets, food, medical care, ...

So that's why it's a good idea to go ahead and donate. Do you really want to tell this girl that she has to go hungry because she has money? :(
