Greatest experience ever in STO

I'm a long time player, career officer, loved the new episodes, but have to say, I just had my greatest STO moment in an oldy.

Starbase 24

I'm a Tactical VA1 flying a dreadnaught with top gear and bridge officers.

To start this off and give a little background info. In the zone is 4 VA1's including myself, it looked like 2 tactical, 1 engineer, 1 science. We were un-grouped, just randomly in the instance together. So the zone is on hard difficulty with the high levels, the timer resets, and the Dev message pops up in pink, 30 minutes before server maintenance...

If this didn't enhance the experience... nothing would have, it was a true star trek moment.
30 minutes, and we started...

We killed off the first 20/50 relatively quickly, but then we hit a few snags, catching the attention of unwanted guests, too many to fight at once, and our group was split 3 ways, I was alone, but the quick thinking of a few talented bridge officers kept us alive, kept us in the game. we reversed shield polarity and was able to get shield up while repairing enough hull damage to make a long loop back to 2 of the fleet. We were just in time, with the extra fire power the group of birds of prey were no match... we survived... for now... then... 50/50.

just as the next Dev message popped, 15 minutes left

Then... reinforcements...

Klingon battleships and escorts warped in from every direction, they encircled starbase 24 like a stirred hornet's nest. The odds were even heavier against us, sure, with unlimited time, the Klingon fleet would be no match for us, just a matter of time before we weakened their fleet by destroying 20 battleships, but... with only 15 minutes... was there a chance?

I hailed the fleet "We can do this, we can take them in 15 minutes, we have to"

We fought on, we engaged the Klingons strategically, in force, but even the best laid plans can fall through.
we had 13/20 destroyed when we received word from the Devs... 5 minutes to go...

To the fleet I responded... "Hit em' with everything you've got, and after that ram them if you have to"

We quickly dismantled 3 more battleships, then another, bringing us to 17, but then we lost our engineer, he was overwelmed by 2 groups of battleships, escorts, and birds of prey... he had slipped too far away from the fleet for us to help him. Then our Science captain had to escape to distance to survive, time to repair we didn't have...

as our count crawled to 19, I knew by the time we only had a minute left, but all I could see was large groups of escorts and bird of prey... no battleships... and then I saw it, a group of 2 battleships with escort, and the other tactical captain had slipped over and engaged. With incoming fire I couldn't cloak past the ships between me and him, but I knew he'd never be able to take him alone, and surely not in time, so I braced for evasive maneuvers through the blockade of klingon ships, reversed shield polarity, transferred all power to weapons, set quantum torpedoes to high yield, and as soon as we come in range I fired, knowing we had only seconds...

The Torpedoes impacted... the phasers scarred the hull... but the Klingon battleship still had 40% hull strength and port shields facing the other tactical captain... and then... the spinal lance cooldown lifted, just in time... but would it be enough?

With full power to weapons, I fired... the golden lance of phaser fire streaked across space and tore through the battleship's hull from bow to stern, erupting the ship into a fireball 5 times it's size.
The day was won... we had won! Starbase 24 had been at least temporarily kept from the Klingons, and they had lost a lot of ships... and a lot of captains.

less than 10 seconds later... the server shut down... we had not only beat the Klingons, but beat the Devs as well... with just enough time to signal the fleet... "We did it, we won"

I didn't get the chance to get any of the other captain's names, or I would list them here and give them credit, they fought hard, they won.

I was also awarded another victory upon the destruction of the last Klingon battleship... The 1st place reward for the fleet action... Truly... A Star Trek moment to remember.

Keyes out.

I'll just let these screen shots speak for themselves.

Yes, those were Oompa Loompas. Mind you, I'm the grayish-blue alien in the background. At some point they all ran up to me and shouted "Pick me! Pick me!"

After their ritual was finished they turned into The Thing, Shrek, Smurfette and some one thing I couldn't make out and scattered. From what I could gather Smurffete ruined the ritual, though I'm not quite sure what was SUPPOSED to happen.

The point to this story is that he enjoyed the game a lot more when there was pressure, demands and a tick tocking timer.

Question now and really always has been, will Cryptic ever click on to the fact that the action in Star Trek always had deadlines and until we get missions as such it will not feel the real deal?!

I'm not criticising, I just wonder if it is ony my opinion or do others want timers with a nice game over?

When I switch to elite, I would love a timer on every mission. Any chance of a new difficulty level that applys such a thing, nice game over if it is not done in the average time. Would need the game to record the average fastest time but in doing so you would generate amazing play time while everyone trys to drive down the average time.

    Hey I'm allowed to dream?!

Should get a ship and paint it back with a red stripe down it's lateral lines and name it the USS Iroquois
Or Midsummer Night. Maybe you already did.

My most epic moment ever involved a triple kill on cubes just by killing the one in the middle.

Lol I have several ships in dock with other United Nations Space Command ship names, Forward unto Dawn is one, many more, there's a listing online in some wiki, but I just remember most of them from the novels.

Timers in some cases would absolutely add a level of "Trek" to the gameplay. Perhaps a loose timer on hard, and a tight hard to make timer on elite, then bump up the drops even more as a reward.

I've had other Trek moments, amazing moments, and Kirk moments in my time here with STO, but this one just made me sit back and say... "Wow... that was fun" and still feel like I was actually in the captain's chair the entire time. Loved it, I'm still excited over it.

    And Pandas? seriously?... nvm

I'd like to know more of your "Trek" moments in STO, tell me a true story about a moment that made you love the fact that you are playing this game.

My moments aren't ever long and drawn out, just one or two little moves that make me smile.

Like using sensor scramble or whatever it is to make a minefield attack itself or an enemy ship or the time I drifted my Sovereign sideways and managed to pitch it up and down, perfectly coasting sideways between enemy ships while having the presence of mind to slam the "Beam Array: Fire at Will" hotkey.

I do mostly ground PVP, up to like 800 kills on my characrer I made only for PVP and I think my all time best moment in game was using telekinesis to fling a Klingon down a ramp and while she was still mid-flight sniping and vaporizing her and a buddy of mine of skype saying "You're not right man"

Also love lunge attack kills because it's like a knife attack without a knife attack and considering I got a knife on that character's belt I feel like a badass.

Ok that sounds pretty cool, I myself only occasionally PvP, and when I do it's typically always space arena. I have a good all around captain, gear, stats, etc... I just enjoy space more, but the lunge kills do sound sweet

We were doing the Klingon ground fleet action where you have to blow the pump things and move on. It started as just 2 of us trying to fight our way through. We were getting our demolished, but were still slowly but surely making progress. Every 5 to 10 minutes a new person would join and we'd make a concerted and coordinated push and get further.

By the end we had 15 people who had never met before working as a concerted team with squads and flanking manuevers...Healers knew where to be, Tactical knew exactly which targets to engage...it was the most spontaneously organized and organic "raid" i've ever seen.

It's always refreshing to know that STO attracts people willing to work together for a goal and not a game full of leroy jenkins's

Recently, my cousin and I have been teaming up to help eachother out on missions.

Recently we went on one of the upper Fed missions where you need to rescue colonists caught in the crossfire between the Borg and the Undine.

Anyhow, we had all but accomplished the mission, rescued the colonists, whooped up on both the Borg and the Undine. However, towards the end, an Undine vessel in orbit starts firing off orbital strikes at you. The mission had been completed, but one of the little fun gags we pull is trying to beat eachother to the anomolies scattered around.

I watched my cousin whip out the tricorder and saw a directional becon appear, then just as suddenly he and his team beamed up. I thought, heck if you won't take it, I will. So, I pull out my tricorder and do a quick scan. To my dismay, the directional indicator was pointing towards a crate of goodies but no anomolies were detected (explaining why my cousin just beamed back up.)

With a sigh, I tap my combadge and prepare to beam back. While watching the orbital strikes continuing to pound the planet, I almost can hear my Captain hollaring "Take us up!" My away team vanishes in a shimmer of transporter energy, but at the last possible second of the cutscene... an orbital strike hits dead center in the middle of the camera vaporizing the very ground my team and I stood on mere seconds before.

Laughing hysterically, I told my cousin what he missed planetside.

All you are is a thief. You scammed me out of 15 million with your bogus trade. Problem is you can't see a bridge officers stats once it's in the trade window. You gave me a worthless uncommon bo and did not uphold your end of the deal.

From my posts, there are 2 other captains that have the exact same situation as me.

BE WARNED Keyes is a thief!

@ Great_Fellini: Wow, if this is your greatest moment in STO. I am truely sorry.

Back on topic, there was one other time I was fighting romulans. I was down to minimal health and took refuge behind some crates. Unfortunately a romulan came around the corner and managed to either stun me, knock me back or both. Either way, I was lying on the ground unable to move watching the romulan get ready to make his killing strike, when all of a sudden he arches back screams and vaporizes before my eyes.

Wondering what just happened, the man I designated my security chief strolled around the corner, phaser rifle in hand. New Accolade Earned: Captain's pet. Gained when one saves the TRIBBLE of their superior officer.

Just trying to warn other captains to be careful. If it was your credits lost you would feel differently.

Thanks for the helpful fighting strategy. Hide behind a crate while your away team does all the work. You must be a real animal in pvp!
