In Star Trek Online we have made contact with Scotty, Kirk, Bones, and Spock all from the Original Series, but where has the love for the Next Generation been?
The actors who play Scotty and Bone are dead, and Spock made a deal with Cryptic. I do not recall interacting with a Kirk NPC in game, so maybe you could remind me where that happens. Anyway, most of the actors from TNG are still alive and therefore Cryptic would have to pay likeness rights to use their appearance in game. The question is, is paying out a ton of money for an NPC to be used in 1 mission better than making a dozen missions with that same amount of money?

I may be wrong, but i don't think Kirk has even been referred to ingame has he. Or did he have a mention in one of the exploration missions. Oh, and of course there's the USS Kirk
Maybe they should introduce more NPC ships like the Enterprise E and insted of showing a picture of lets ay Riker, or data we just get a nice CGI shot of the Titan or Enterprise so only the character is referanced
It's hard to say how much he loved Anij. He might have loved Beverly more.
To some extent what the Ba'ku represent is the Garden of Eden. As much as we think of Picard as a scholar he was also an explorer. I think the need for him to see what's beyond the next star would pull him away from the Ba'ku relatively quickly and he would stay with them, at most, only a few years - just long enough to regain his vitality.
He and Beverly have a kid in the game's backstory although it seems to be inferred that they divorced like they did in the AGT timeline. There's no mention of them together aside from their child and I believe she's mentioned as captain of the Pasteur while he's now a retired Amabassador, living in France.
I'm not saying he can't make an appearance - assuming likeness fees can be worked out between Cryptic and Sir Patrick. I am simply saying that the Picard we would see in the game would be more akin to the future version from AGT: quite old and deeply affected by Irumodic Syndrome.
Personally I think an interesting mission would be to take Picard from Earth to the Ba'ku in the Briar Patch - with a group attempting to stop you. There he could reverse the Irumodic Syndrome and start growing younger. Of course he might never want to leave Anij.
I'm dying to do a story dealing with his Irumodic Syndrome. I have a conspiracy theory that ties that to Vulcan, Romulus, the Iconian plot, the Borg, Spock, etc. And probably accounts for Shinzon along the way.
It really would wind up being a way to tie together everything we know about Picard up into a neat bow where we see the big picture, the one we've been too close to... and it ties together all the Picard/Q interactions in a new way, in that almost every Q appearance has a comment that somehow could be reinterpreted in a new light here.
The Irumodic Syndrome is a HUGE key element though. It makes it possible to basically reframe Picard's whole life into one cohesive narrative. Suddenly, throwaway elements all become this serial subplot, like The Dominion War. And the sneaky thing is, you'd never see it coming but it all works in retrospect.

In one of the missions (Task Force Hippocrates I think?) where you're escorting the Vulcan ship with medical supplies, at the end of the mission you can talk to the Vulcan captain, and he says they've made large strides towards curing Irumodic syndrome. Cryptic has covered their bases as far as potentially featuring Picard at some point, so it's not out of the question.

I'm sure he might have been, but the books have no bearing on the game. Sure there's references, but the storyline is not the same at all.
To be honest, the game does continue story arcs from the books/comics - like Data being Captain of the Enterprise.
If you go by the timeline, Data is captain of the Ent-E. It disappeared while investigating the loss of Starbase 236, it would be easy to come up with a mission to find it. Data doesn't age so that would be perfect, except for the licensing which I always had trouble with, and it doesn't just come down to Spiner, it comes down to CBS, Paramount, Simon and Shuester, Simon and SImon, Roddenberry, Manny, Moe, Jack and whoever else has a cookie in the cookie jar.
Picard is retired according to the timeline, I can't say what the future (present) holds, as of 2381 while still in command of the Ent-E, he is married to Beverly, and they are expecting their first kid.
It stands to reason that RIker is probably still in Starfleet. He doesn't necessarily have ot be an Admiral, many naval captains stay captains for 30 years, Admirals are actually quite rare in the navy, don't go by Star Trek's vision of Admirals where we saw a different one every time we needed one. If we all think Riker is "past it" we can always turn Titan over to the second officer, Tuvok by our timeline.
Dax could obviously be around, you could make him/her into whatever you want, as could Sisko.
As of 2381 Voyager is still on the road, with Chakotay as captain (which I find highly unlikely, but hey, that's another arguement) and Tom Paris as XO. The possibility of Paris becoming captain after Chakotay (as unlikely as Chakotay becoming captain, so it will prob happen), I am sure Robert Duncan McNeil can't be too expensive. Seven is probably around somewhere, our timeline has her leaving Starfleet after being part of the Borg taskforce, now that the Borg are back, we could always bring her in.
Worf is in game, largely because his overall likeness belongs to CBS's makeup department, rather than Michael Dorn, his in-game image is quite aged. I assume we could do this with any heavily costumed character in game, I remember one of our missions referencing Garak somewhere, any Cardy I assume you could do without much licensing trouble.
Licensing is the major problem with this game, I have played other games with canon characters (SWG, MxO) and have never run into tihs kind of problem before, hell in some games not only are their likenesses in the game, they have had employees actually playing them.
I vote Wesley Crusher becoming a starfleet captain! In the cut scenes from Nemesis Wesley says he has rejoined starfleet, and I'm sure it can't be that expensive to get wil wheaton lol
As long as they make the mission Shut up Wesley! - I'm all for it.

The basic answer is that it diverges at Destiny.
The complex answer is that some events post-Destiny happen in both the books and STO.
The even more complex answer is that Stahl and the team here work with CBS, IDW, and Pocket to make sure there are certain consistent things between the licensees even if the three represent divergent possible futures post-Nemesis from time to time.
I would almost KILL to write an IDW miniseries that features a mix of the game's original NPCs like Hakeev, J'mpok, and Quinn alongside TNG characters. (Which you could do at IDW since they have likeness rights and use to supplement the lore since the game's launch.) I think Countdown did some nice things for STO and it would be double plus good to have maybe a miniseries once a year at least, if not a monthly comic, that expands the STO universe and is free to give us updates post-2409 on established characters while fleshing out the new ones.

Does the STO team actually have to coordinate with IDW and Pocket, or does CBS just make sure all 3 are working together the way they want? I havent seen any comments about them actually talking with anyone but CBS. Link?

It seems like the devs are more-so doing it on their own. There was the novel tie-in which probably had CBS and Cryptic needing to work into (and I'm sure that author added some to keep it partially consistent with his own work).

I don't know that they HAVE to.
I know that Stahl has said he'd like it if other licensees could start using races like the Deferi and the Crimto and I'm sure he'd like access to things like Gorn armor from the comics or continued access to original Pocket characters like Mackenzie Calhoun. I think it comes down to a certain amount of bartering under CBS' supervision.

I always thought that it was some how Quark, that made a deal with a member of the Tal Shiar, and aquired some of Picard's DNA.
The Enterprise-D did make a stop at DS-9 during "The EMISSARY" and Quark always seems to be able to get anythihng he wants or feels he needs to make a profit.
I don't think it's necessary to make Quark responsible. Remember, Bok had the blueprint for Picard's DNA way back in TNG's "Bloodlines" and I think something like that would work out better overall.
I bet Jason Vigo is still out there (and would look nothing like the actor, ala Miral Paris, Kim, etc.)... I think I may look into following up on him in a Foundry mission, depending on how the EULA shakes out.
as far as bridges go, i would have thought the sensible thing for devs to do would be to make the known bridge sets and give cusomization options more on point as TOS, TNG, VOY, Sovvy/Prometheus style options. so you select the galaxy layout.. then select the voyager option and get the bulky consoles with the gray/blue/black tones.
but selecting the galaxy bridge with the sovvy/prom style would give you the sleek consoles in the tan/red/white/gray style.

IMO that would have been a cool route to go

Whoa...Superchum. Where you been? Good to see you again.
Ah.. well I was half right

Dax, from DS9.
Remember, Dax was the symbiont, it started in Jadzia, then transferred to Ezri when Jadzia died. It could very easily show up in game with a new host.
Though.. it does make me wonder if Admiral Quinn was originally supposed to be Admiral Quinn Dax, and they had to nix that part for some reason.
Edit: [insert obligatory afterthought about the need for Morn on DS9 here]

But it's awfully selective. I don't see the Caeliar (spelling?) coming in and taking the Borg away...
Besides, the Countdown comic was much more tied in to the latest movie, and its events take place in 2387, about five years after the latest books are set. http://memory-beta.wikia.com/wiki/Memory_Beta_Chronology:_2380s

On hiatus. The holidays forced me to take a break from gaming.
I'm back. And I can sit my captain's butt in his own chair. Game makes me happy.
