Crash to desktop NVIDEA card

Ive seen a lot of threads for folks using ati cards but none for nvidia

i am suffering from random and frequent desktop crashes while in space and on the ground. I believe it is a graphics related issue. The reason I believe that is normally while running heavy loads my machine will still put out colder air than what it intakes from the room, even while running several instances of warcraft and the server those instances are running off of.

My g card is up to date and should not be struggling with any game on the market at this time
I am currently running high graphics in all settings, however this game can't possibly be pushing my system that hard.

nvidia gts 450
AMD phenom II x6 2.8ghz Hexa core
8 gigs ddr3 ram
1k watt psu
win 7 64

ive spent the last 45 minutes trying to log on....each time i get loaded into my ship i crash to desktop with a message that gameclient.exe has stopped responding....every 3rd crash is forcing the patcher to verify all files which takes a good few minutes...just to have it all repeated.....

no offense but this little game doesn't have the potential to make my gpu hot and tax my sytem at all.....something is srsly wrong with this TRIBBLE......

any ideas would be appreciated

true it is a post about an nvidia crash

however his is givng him detailed information about memory and direct 3d problems.

mine is simply a crash to desktop without any messages of any kind, other than the standard windows message.......program has stopped responding.

now in addition to these crashes which are frequent. now im getting fatal error crashes....

Id love to include the error message however they cause my machine to loop sounds from the game and cause my cursor to become pinned to the middle of my screen.......

ctrl alt del x 2 and shutting down is all i can do to resolve it

    :(

I'm not a windows person, so excuse my thinking on this.

Based on what you're describing, you're showing one of two things to be the case (especially with fatal error crashes): Either there is a hardware malfunction or there is a driver malfunction.

Fatal errors are generally caused by those two. Added to the fact you're also seeing your cursor pinned to a specific spot, it really makes me look at those two possibilities.

The problem, in this case, is going to be hard to find and/or troubleshoot. It seems best to work from the easiest solution and go to the more complex ones from there. Start by making sure you're not using beta drivers for the video card or any other component on your system.

Nvidia's website says that 266.58 is the current stable version you should be using for your video drivers. (as of January this year)

Install them (or, perhaps reinstall). Reboot when prompted. See if the problem goes away.

Next step, check your sound card. Make sure the drivers are current from the manufacturer as well. If it's an onboard soundcard, go to your motherboard manufacturer's site and download/update from there.

Next, if that still doesn't help, check the other drivers from your motherboard manufacturer or vendor (if you're using an HP, or a Toshiba, or whatever), check the vendor and make sure you have the latest ones there, too.

Also, make sure you have the current BIOS for your motherboard (again checking the website of the vendor in question).

If all else fails, this tells me the problem isn't with the game or your drivers -- but the hardware. This could be a few possible options after that point. Either it's a CPU problem (not as likely, but still possible), a memory problem, or a video card problem. And, worst case scenario, it could be onboard chipset issues or even a write caching problem from your harddrive. (I suspect the first set far quicker than the last - as the last 2 manifest themselves everywhere else, not just the game.)
