Well todays TOR update was very.. godly.

Take a peek

While I was sad about the whole space element of TOR, still am, the ground parts just look unreal. STO is going to have to really jump it up a gun to compete "in my mind"

really awsome and looking forward to this game

I was actually fairly underwhelmed. It looked like a Actiony version of Star Trek Online set in the Star Wars galaxy.

Then I heard these words: "Prejudice: Set to Maximum."

When I seen footage of this game awile back I was not even interested, especially when they revealed the space content, which later made me go sorry but ill stick to STO. After this installment...

I hope TOR has lifetime because.. Ill be there for headstart "if they have one" :)

    Godly? You're joking right?

It looks alright. Still not holding my breath for anything spectacular, though. :o

Looks better than Dragon Age 2 (bioware's first mediocre PC game for me).

Are there any STO players forming guilds for SWTOR yet?

I've done some reading aobut this and some of the features of the game sound really cool and the trailer is nice. Two things deter me when I think aobut trying it out when it is released, 1 the space combat and 2 I'm a far bigger Trek fan than I am a Wars fan.

The space combat hasn't really changed all that much from previous Knights of the old Republic games, except that it's on rails now

After the whole "I spent six years in SWG" Debacle, I doubt I'll ever touch another MMO with the label "Star Wars".

    Thanks anyways.

    Sigh....

They have been stuck in a "All this has happened before..." time loop for the last millennium...

I honestly think a sociologist could write a paper on cultural stagnation as represented in fiction - I mean, come on! Thousands of years of civilization and we're using the same blasters, same lightsabers, same costumes, same ships, same hyperdrive.

Only thing I can think of that has more expanse of time with no advancement in civilization is Tolkien (ever see how long those "ages" last?) - and at least he had the magical rings to excuse that...

...oh wait... the Force IS magic - silly me.

Unfortunately, this is the trend with Bioware's recent release DA2: reducing player freedom for narrow corridors.

Still, the story will compensate for that

And wrote timeless classics that he had the good graces not to mercilessly murder for the sake of more money. Even the recently found and published Sons of Huron was good. Unlike certain unnamed prequel trilogies. Though I liked the fights in the third one of those unnamed movies.

    Story?
Well, no doubt it will be the same old, same old. Hero's journey, blah, blah...

However, there will be enough time wasted in running through all the possible dialog options to give the illusion of "content" for AT LEAST a good month.

...that is if you consider cut-scenes "content".

Plenty more story content than that, what about the return of the Sith Empire and the Sith Emperor. The origin of the Jedi on Tython, the fate of Revan. Plenty of story content

No offense intended, Tricksterbro. Maybe it's just me, but I don't consider cut-scenes to be "content". I'm completely unimpressed.

OK, they're not to everyones taste.

To me though they're the best part of all games when they're executed properly like in Mass Effect II, to go through a game without cutscenes, to me at least, spells instant boredom

DA2's story isn't as well done as DA:O and no amount of cutscenes make mediocre gameplay less mediocre. The story in DA2 is disjointed, forced, and ham-fisted.

I wanted to lend the devs at Bioware copies of Rashomon and Pulp Fiction if they want non-linear narrative done right.

I'm really suprised since I'm normally a Bioware fan-boy since their days back with Interplay.

One thing that I personally find dubious is how Bioware has claimed that there'll be a 'Companion' system.

And, if I'm not mistaken, that claim came hot on the heals of STO doing it's Bridge Officer system.

I just can't shake this feeling that TOR isn't going to be good as Bioware is shaping it up to be. It looks like an action RPG, or something like KOTOR, but they're wanting to make an MMO out of this?

actually, thank you guys for posting this up. It lead to a line of dialogue with a buddy of mine of voice chat that found me a emu server of Galaxies in it's pre-NGE awesome state. Viva la CE!

To be fair, I think it was the other way around, but both did surface in a very close timeframe.

I'll definitely try out TOR. I love Star Wars, and have enjoyed many games in the universe - including KOTOR, which I absolutely loved. It looks like there will be an engaging story, and a very cinematic feel to it all. I'm just a little worried about the 'MMO' aspect to it, or potential lack thereof. It seems very single player oriented from what's been shown so far.

I suppose only time will tell, but nothing about TOR has blown me away at all, yet.

"There's no place in the galaxy to hide from my ROTH..."

What? Like Diamond David Lee "bozie-bop" Roth?

    ...meh...

I'm rather sad at how much I'm over Star Wars. It used to be on par with how much I like Trek, but it's been in slow decline since TPM. At this point, the magic of Star Wars is gone for me, and if SW was a person, it'd be like an annoying little kid who keeps trying to do things to attract the attention of a "kewl" crowd who really don't have anything in common with him, nor a nich for him in their group.

I still can't figure out a way to generate any enthusiasm for ToR....As much as I love Bioware...I just can't seem to care about ToR.

Oh wait. I know why. Lucas Arts and Julio Torres ****ed me off.

Still looks like it will have good cutscenes combined with terrible gameplay.

Remember my review of Final Fantasy XIV? I don't expect it to be THAT bad, but that is about what I am expecting. I am expecting there to be an amazing cutscene, play WoW with lasers for a couple minutes, then get another cutscene where my character is doing all sorts of crazy awesome scripted stuff, then back to plodding around like the space wizard or tank I am.

The trailer was over-hyped to be honest, nothing "OMG" about it from my point of view.

I'm not going to waste my time with it. Tho I suppose if someone offered me a trial key or something...I'd check it out....but I seriously doubt I'd spend any money on it.
