I was thinking about the villians in star trek.

Who is your favourite and who is the worst?

I have tried to list the major ones but feel free to add your own, or to even rank this list from best to worst or rate each one if you like.

Kahn
Kruge
Chang
Soron
Borg Queen
Ru'afo
Shinzon
Nero
Gul Dukat
Kai Winn
Damar
Femal Changeling
Weyon
Seska
Tomolok
Sela
Q
Duras
Lursa
B'etor
Maje Culluh

For me the best is dukat by a mile, such a complex character and not just evil for the sake of it. the worst of the above would probably be Maje Culluh. he was a pretty weak villain when all said and done.

Gul Dukat definitely belongs at the very top of this list along with Kahn and General Chang. Maj Cullah was definitely one of the worst completely lacking in depth seemed to be cruel and unthinking jsut because. Sela was so so I jsut never cared for the character she seemed like an excuse to let denise corsby back on the show. She was better as Yarina then Sela I think.

I like smart complicated villains who often have good reasons to do bad things.

Not sure if I would classify V'ger as a villain. It was and entity with a black-and-white view on completing its mission. If anything got in its way, it would get rid of it. Once it completed its mission, its agressiveness ended.

I would also like to nominate the M-113 Creature from ToS "The Mantrap".

v'ger did kill a klingon fleet and almost kill everyone on earth but endup not killing them we think, and that bald chick. but if you dont count v'ger do you count the borg, it's prty much the same thing.

    adding lore to the list

to clarify i was mainly talking about villains that are people or at least act like people. basically someone who can be played by an actor and have some kind of personality. yes lore is a good addition.

i would not count the borg but would count the borg queen.

    My favorites in order.

    Nero
    Shinzon
    Seska
    Sela.

I like the Romulans, particularly Sela because of what her character represents and what it did to Picard. That and how resilient Sela is, she's still alive and well despite everything. Though I got a feeling we may end up having to kill her. Too bad about Denatra, those two would be good together and Dina Meyer needs work.

    My least favorite
    The Borg Queen.

Why? She's a moron. Send one Borg ship for Earth at a time, come up with Kill-Castro like plans to overthrow humanity and the whole time while having a transwarp hub in our very solar system that Janeway exploits at her own leisure before destroying, thus eliminating the usefulness of it.

And she's supposed to be "perfect"

It's a very loaded question because I'm of many minds when it comes to favorite.

Best constructed villain - Dukat. The beauty of Dukat was that his character was so charismatic and it was a really cool turn when he briefly turned into a hero character during parts of the war with the Klingons. He was evil but he also had an understandable (not necessarily agreeable) motivation most of the time.

Best portrayed villain(s) - where the actor was so good that he stole the show. In no particular order: Ricardo Mantalbon as Khan, Christopher Plummer as Chang, and Jeffrey Coombs as Weyoun. Just outstanding actors. I want to give Malcolm McDowell an honorable mention because he's so awesome and made a rather flat character stand up next to giants. :D

Best deliciously evil villain - Borg Queen as portrayed by Alice Krige. The makeup, the overall idea of the character, the acting, the motivations are all just deliciously evil. She's just fun to watch. I can't resist doing my best evil laugh whenever I see her. Lore gets an honorable mention here. He's so deliciously evil in basically doing the most evil thing in any given situation (smart or not).

    Harry Mudd:

Not only did he manage to hijack the Enterprise, twice, but also escaped Starfleet custody in spite of being thwarted by Kirk and crew. Not to mention that his uncouth behavior notwithstanding, he's irresistably charming.

Mudd is a character I wouldn't mind seeing reimagined in the J.J. Trekverse as a former Starfleet Captain, classified as killed on active duty only to resurface leading a fleet of Naussican marauders in an elaborate attempt to control all trade operations in the galaxy, and thus control the galaxy. Rather than being fat and charmingly entertaining, I picture more of a bold but calculating opportunist who's knowlege of Starfleet operations and beyond make him more than a formidable challenge to Kirk and Co. (Danial Craig anyone?)

Villains on the OP's list rated 1 to 10 on my arbitrary villainy scale, with 10 being the villainest. I think you need to add the Unnamed Romulan Commanders, Valeris, Gary Mitchell, the Conspiracy aliens, and several other villains to get a true evaluation of Star Trek villainy, but I will leave that task to others. I would leave off all the sentient and semi-sentient computers from TOS though as they weren't especially original or interesting.

    *10*

Gul Dukat. The most developed villain and one of the most developed characters in Star Trek to date. A realistic, multifaceted villain that is all the more terrible because of how he sublimates his better qualities to his villainy.

    *9*

Khan. Great scenery chewing and a simple, understandable motivation.

    *8*

Chang. Great scenery chewing, but his villainy is dictated by the needs of the story than the motivations of his character.

Female Changeling. Perhaps the most despicable and evil villain. However, much of her villainy occurs off-screen.

Kai Winn. I'm sure the actress who played her is perfectly nice, but this is the villain I would most like to punch in the face. Would rate even higher were she more of an individual and less of a symbol for religious hypocrisy.

    *7*

Borg Queen. Effectively ruthless and pragmatic. However, by adding individuality (or the appearance of it) to the Collective, she reduced the level of fright induced by the Borg.

Damar. A well-developed character, but his villainy is more a subset of Dukat's villainy. He represents all the Cardassians that Dukat can manipulate.

    Q. More an antagonist than a villain in that he generally seemed amoral rather than malevolent. Otherwise his score would be higher. Well-acted and an interesting character most of the time. Was used too often by the writers though; should never have appeared in DS9 or Voyager.

    *6*

Kruge. Generally underdeveloped. Would rate much lower if not for a few key moments of awesome villainy, like shooting his officer.

Sela. Just a device to get Denise Crosby back? Sure, but she appeared in some very interesting episodes.

    Tomalak. A good recurring villain.

Weyoun. A fun schmaltzy villain. Too many used car salesman qualities to rate much higher.

    *5*

Duras. A base-line Star Trek TV episode villain.

Nero. Okay scenery chewing, but you can't really understand him from the movie alone and no I don't want to read a comic book.

Soran. Average motivations, average movie villain.

    *4*

Shinzon. He was okay, but being a clone of Picard seemed contrived. I'm still upset that no Romulans appeared in the movie that was supposed to be about Romulans.

    *3*

Culluh. More a plot device than an individual.

Lursa. I found the Duras sisters too silly and stupid to make good villains.

    Seska. See Culluh.

    *2*

Ru'afo. Insurrection was terrible but I guess it wasn't entirely this character's fault.

    *1*

B'etor. Just a less intelligent and more promiscuous version of Lursa.

I personally loved Kang, Kor, and Koloth during the original series... and then MORE so when they were continued in DS9. Awesome development.

I have to admit there are a few to chose from in Trek.

Top spot I think is a slugging match between General Chang and Khan. Total hams in both cases, but let's face it, Plummer has decimated any belief amongst Trek fans that Shakespeare could have been anything but a Klingon. :D

"Cry HAVOC! and let slip.... the dogs of war!"

    Honourable mentions:

Gul Dukat, for sheer style and strength of character. Saw the world in an appropriate shade of grey. A pragmatist if there ever was one.

Kang, Kor and Koloth for turning the villain trope on its head. Literally the other half of Kirk, McCoy and Spock, and lasting just as long in their influence. (Through DS9 in fact)

Borg Queen for actually making us see the appeal of being assimilated. ;)

how about obesek, is he a villan, does he count as real trek?

dispite the good intentions i'd say he's a villan, using thaleron evading capture trying to kill you atleast twice. ok so the tal'shar are bad but the enemy of my enemy is trying to melt me with thaleron if i dont agree with him, that dont sound like a good guy.

why not add mirror checkov and sulu from the TOS epp that introduced the terrans

I'd have to say that Khan and Gul Dukat are my favourite Trek villains. Weyoun was also quite interesting., as was Brunt (pseudo-villain?), also played by Jefferey Combs. Kai Winn was also a rather evil character as she was rather manipulative and patronising - a villain we love to hate :P .

Kang, Kor and Koloth were also pretty epic villains.
