As many of us follows star wars the old republic, you probably knows the release date of 04/03/2011. that game launches at the time of a STO's content drought!
so i ask to my self "and you all" who's gonna try / test the game star wars old republic? and what if star wars old republic gets in your grace? what will you do.

<don't start to flame this thread, if your planning to then stop reading, do so and get out please>

i for one will goto star wars old republic, if i will stay there, knows nobody "probably yes cus sto is getting boring as hell and i'm a lifer i can do so and come back to sto at a later time". so i might peek from time to time on the sto forums and in game to see what the devs have "fixed" & "added".
My curse is that i'm fan of Star Trek and Star Wars ... so either way i'll be playing the two games :p if time permit me ofc

<now please try to reply normally, i ask this NOT to get under the skin of cryptic in anyway, just so if there alot of you that gonna do that we might start in the same guild in star wars old republic, well was just a thought, if your mind is still thinking i gonna flame this dude so bad... well sorry in advanced then ^^ >

I will play SWTOR thats sure, because its new game. but its Star Wars. A space drama or whatever, full with emotionaly hurted sorcerers with a glowstick, the Jedi and Sith. I like the movies, was fun, but wont took me away from this game. Ill try out BH and Commando and thats all.
I wont give up this game for that game.
Sorry SW fans it was just and IMO about SW. Who like it, will enjoy i hope, and good luck in that game.

As a supporter of Cryptic. I'm a lifetime subscriber for both Champions Online and Star Trek Online, I will continue to play STO when SWTOR comes out. However there is only so many alts I can level to VA until I get burnt out. I only hope Cryptic adds future content to STO to sustain the community, not just the series stuff, but beafy projects like large expansions, faction additions, add-ons, etc. Adding additional content for me will keep my interest, otherwise most of my time may be spent on something new and current. Whether its SWTOR, Guild Wars 2, Fallout, etc. However I do predict a massive STO community drop when SWTOR comes out, why...because its Star Wars. Unless SWTOR is an epic fail at the gate, however I doubt that considering the crazy money (millions of dollars) invested, partnerships with LucasArts, Bioware, EA, and Dark Horse. Those are some strong attributes to follow a game!

Personally I would love to see STO last as long as WoW. Only the Trekkie fanbase can dictate that kind of track record. :)

I'm not worried about it at all. STO will be fine. We'll probably see a temporary population drop once TOR releases. Once people realize that all the pre-launch hype is just hype, and TOR is your typical, run-of-the mill MMO (just like CO and STO) there are going to be lots and lots of disappointed people. TOR isn't going to be a WoW-killer or an STO-killer. It's going to be typical MMO in the Star Wars universe.

I played SWTOR during the closed beta last December. Whilst its a good game, and I found some of the mechanics quite interesting, its just not my cup of tea. I've never really been majorly into Star Wars, so to be honest I'll probably remain here.

i am very much looking forward to tor and i am a massive bioware fan but a few things here.

    a) im pretty sure no release date has been announced yet. i highly doubt it will be the 3rd of april.
    b) i keep hearing the words content drought. why? because there is not going to be a featured episode series. that does not mean we are getting nothing for several months.
    c) i plan to play both games. playing more than one game or mmo is fairly common.
    d) many people that like star wars hate star trek and visa versa. i dont think there will be a sudden grand switch of players, as many of the people who play sto wont go near tor.
    e) bioware have no experience with mmo's and as much as i love them they are known for making slightly buggy games. couple that with the rumoured largest install and complexity of an mmo in history and i would brace yourself for several months of massive instability when it does launch.

end of the day i expect tor to hits sto's numbers but it wont be that dramatic. so no i dont think its a dangerous time at all. i think sto is established and tor still has to get off the ground. with their rumoured sub requirements i think they have slightly more to worry about than sto does right now.

I have seen no OFFICIAL release date. I doubt we will see that game till summer at the earliest.

STO will still have better space combat, something only one other MMO (EVE) has. So they have that going for them.

STO has been in a content drought since launch. Featured episodes have added very little to the game, and are hardly endgame worthy. They just help fill out some of the gaps in leveling. So if STO has made it this far with it's content It will continue to survive.

STO also survives off the IP. Star Trek fans are not always Star Wars fans.

Bioware has made some great games, but both Mass Effect 2 and Dragon age 2 have hurt their credibility with me. So we will see if they can redeem themselves.

i had a link "sorry i'v lost it" officially stating the release will be at the end of the beta, witch it 03/31/2011 so the release date of 04/03/2011 is still a rumor but can be true! info came from there forums and from pax. ofc over-active date release do happen :p

I hope SWTOR takes away all the annoying spammers, giving me a nice open galaxy to fly through without being constantly bugged by people wanting me to join their fleet.

    Trek rules.

    Wars sucks.

What the hell is the force anyway?!?

    Nope, not me!

The only game I might go play soon is Battlestar. It has open pvp.
Magicians with glow sticks fighting on the ground- LOL.

If this release is even close to right, say within 4 weeks, then Cryptic needs to take notice. Star Wars and Star Trek share many of the same fan base. Oh sure there are fans of just one over the other, I myself do not really care for Star Wars and would pick Star Trek every time but there is enough overlap that a hit to subscriber base is a real likelyhood.

If the content draught everyone keeps talking about is a reaility then STO will get hit much harder expected. I would hope however the STO Team would see this and alter their plans to take this into account so the hit would be tempered with a new release of material.

I liked the movies and some single-player games in the SW universe. But after all I don't care about the new MMO. Actually I don't have enough time to play two MMOs and I am really happy with STO. So I won't change.

I love STO and the Star Trek universe and so there is no need for me to change.

I'm a huge Wars fan, but the fact that I'm already paying for and invested in STO means that TOR would have to be the best thing since sliced bread to pull me away.

I won't pay for two MMOs unless i suddenly make more money lol...

The last thing I head of that was that it's "space shooter on rails".

    The lightsabers are awesome.

Maybe TOR will be an alternative in the time. Maybe myriad of Foundry missions.

SWTOR has the crappiest outdated tunnelshooter bulls**t for space combat ...will have to play STO for my space fix unless cryptic keeps giving us all this crazy spam ...then its off to that new Star trek web browser game for space combat.

Ive always been a huge fan of Star Trek and only liked the Star Wars movies.. that being said if the Star Wars game is any good i'll prob go there and wash my hands of STO.

Only because of all the MMO's ive played STO has been the WORST when it comes to bugs, errors, glitches etc... and the WORST when it comes to the time it takes to get those things fixed.

As long as Star Wars has a lifetime sub ill be there :)

what they said is that it will released sometime after the end of the financial year which is 31/3 but should be this year. ive seen nothing to say the 31st is the end of beta.

i guess the 3rd is a remote possibility but its still one i highly doubt and is unconfirmed. maybe the end of april or early may but i cant in all honesty see it official launching early april.

i will also stay like the most at sto, and im not a lifetime subsciber. (too many lifetime subcribes in a mmo destroys the intrest of a company in a game.)

the space tunnel combat at swtor will be a big dissapointing apart from there is only lame ground combat.
i never was a big mmo fan, infact sto was/is my first mmo ever and i just play it cause of the trek content. if i want to play a good game i wouldnt pick a mmo at all ;) .

but we need definetly more content...

oh good it was not just i that see this fact. yesterday i'v try to do a STF "cure" run, man the very first "ground" part nodes where bugged lolz djeez the 3 nodes at the start of ground won't destroy the gate Oo like what the F! ofc the next set of node witch come with workers and other drones where a complete disaster ! i had XI gear "epic" and on a normal mode i was dead in less then 3 shots! Oo what the hell did the borg take drugs?! not to mention about the super "run" speed the borg had! so we assumed the mission was bugged again and i left! was so frustrated that i closed the game for the day. pfff really this game could have bin so much more!

I think I will ignore your OP and will definitely take exception to your thread and posts. It's very obvious that you have opened this thread, not to seek opinion, but to make your own feelings about STO known. It's just plain rude to open a thread about another MMORPG launch in the forums sponsored by Cryptic (and I am NO Cryptic fanboy as my previous posts will show beyond a doubt). Oh, and I can do the STFs all day with absolute ease - so if you can't that's your problem not Cryptic's.

This thread has no purpose, everyone knows that a new competing MMO launch is a threat and we didn't need a new thread to make that point.

As for a content drought - it hasn't been very dry so far with the recent launch of MVAM has it?

look i did NOT made this thread with the idea of making Cryptic (STO) bad, Cryptic is doing fine by adding stuff, but not fixing stuff!! that aside if there is no-one like me "shaking the pot" nothing will be changed cus why change something if no-one is complaining. i just wanted to point out the fact that this game will not survive on "blind-fans" witch i now regret cus it seems this game will survive on blind-fans!! the smallest bad thought / remark you make on the forum or in-game you get pounded by fans that swear there is nothing wrong with this game, sorry for all the people who can't take a bit of Truth, there's allot of wrong things in this game, time to face em!

to just remark on the STF's "again" i'v played 10 runs so far, 3 times i'v made it to the end with no problem, 1 time i got to the end, killed the queen and got no reward "none of us did, loot was bugged", 6 times we did not got to the end cus of a stream of bugs and the quitting of team members cus of it! so please don't tell me that the STF work fine! it is not cus you made "fleet" runs or care to over-look the bugs that there are no bugs!!
even the featured missions has bugs, just to call one of the latest "the super jump of the boss" .. you know i can bash the game all day there allot of bugs to pick from BUT all that won't matter cus of fans like you "blinded" by the fact it is a "Star Trek" game... i know its a game but do you want to pay for a half-car or some other goodies thats not made complete or has defects !? i don't think so, same goes for game i know a mmo is never complete but a defected one i don't want either.
darn see now what you made me do, i did ask not to reply like this! "you harvest the seeds you plant my friend"

oh btw MVAM is content eh, say that to the people who can't buy it from the C-Store or don't have the time to farm the idiotic 500 emblems! tsss content my ...
