If you cant play due to the changes Win7 made, you can uninstall the Service Pack:
How to uninstall Windows 7 service pack 1 from the Control Panel
If SP1 makes you unhappy for one reason or the other, you can uninstall it.
1. Go to Control Panel-Programs-Programs and Features. The easy way to get there is to enter uninstall in the Start- Search bar and choose Uninstall a program from the Control Panel list
2. Click View installed updates
3. Click "Service Pack for Microsoft Windows (KB 976932)"
4. Click Uninstall
Service Pack 1 didn't cause any "problems" with my 64-bit Windows 7, except for me needing to install updated drivers for my mouse and keyboard. Other than that, zero issues whatsoever.
It's an out for those who cant play STO after they install SP1.
Until the next time Windows Update pushes it to them, if it's set to install updates automatically.
My point is, it's not likely that SP1 by itself is the problem. If it was, there would be a lot more threads about it.
It would probably be more helpful in the long run to update all the drivers and such on a system before resorting to uninstalling SP1.... which will likely become "mandatory" to receive Windows security updates at some point anyway.
