Is this going to be yet another example of Cryptic rewarding their fans more than other players ?
If the STO are going to be plugging someone elses missions with better rewards and not mine, whats the point in making them ?
I think this is so open to favouritism, which we already know happens here way to much anyway.
Does anyone else think this makes mission building for the average player pointless... ?
Nope.
If you're worried they're going to the highlight missions for some reason other than because they're the best, there doesn't seem to be any reason to worry about that. Besides, even if they did, it would just be like those were made by Cryptic. So essentially your question would be: If Cryptic adds a lot of new content themselves would that make the Foundry pointless? To which the answer would be: to be so lucky.
the ones they have spotlighted give 50 xp at the end (yet to be seen if that will affect all foundry missions) and they have also said they are looking at doing it as a daily (ie play 3 foundry missions per day and get rewards).
also xp can be accumulated from the npc's in the mission itself. its not much but it does move your character forward.
yes i think there should be some limited xp given out but they have to avoid the system being abused.
city of heroes gave this no consideration when they made it and it caused all kinds of problems.
ill reserve total judgement until i see what they do with it. this is most likely something that will change over time as the foundry beds in and people give their feedback.

No please don't tell me what my question would be, should be or could be, I find that annoying...
We see Cryptics favourtism all the time with STO, in the forums and in game, I'm asking if this kind of favourtism will continue into the foundry missions and if it does will this make the foundry pointless for the average fleet or player that hasnt got cryptics ear....

Or you could be seeing things. That's my guess anyway. I mean really, favortism? Sounds like something little kids complain their parents do. But, whatever. Either you want to make missions or you don't. Don't see what Cryptic has to do with that one way or the other.
I have Read Almost half of the posts in this thread and i can say without a hint or concern or worry that the Foundry is going to be a very very usefull tool.
Now the gamer in me Screams Loose this game and play another every few months ( so i brought a life time sub) then i go play my xbox but while i am playing games that will not let me adapt create or even think i come back to Sto.
Now what i am finding that the star trek brain Geek/Nerd in me is craving to make mission after the last weekly i had an instant idea to make a misison so i went and started.
People who make good or bad missions on the foundry are trying and cryptic has sparked an idea in a lot of us to make this game alot better and more fun there are thousands or people who will come to the game so they can make star trek star trek.
Many members of my fleet were not even going to look at the foundry but i made them a little something and it sparked 90% of them to go try it out so if i can inspire people to go try the foundry then this game has a long life ahead

Count on it. I lost faith in the detached professionalism of the staff a long time ago. I realize I am a minority, but I prefer a strictly serious and professional relationship with the staff...I prefer this for the better psychological health of the whole community. Even if an illusion...if players get the sense that some are loved more than others it feeds negative emotions that do not need to exist....and can in time ruin the experience for all.
As for UGC...I sincerely hope its effects are more positive than negative. Speaking for myself, I pay to play developer generated content. Therefore, I will never play nor create any UGC. It is my further hope that UGC remains in its own place and not bleed into the general game. Specifically that some Dev. favored content is not implemented into the general game.
I realize there are a lot of people in favor of UGC...we certainly see the same few people acting as boosters for it...
As long as UGC is not exploitable....and constructed to purely give players the option to express themselves, I will take no issue with it. If it turns into a ego driven drama fest....that detracts from the actual game, I will be disappointed.
But aye HubsST...every fiber of my being and every innate sense of probability seems to lean toward your worse case senario. Let us both hope we are wrong. UGC can be a great aside for players...or it can ruin the game. I sincerely hope it does not turn out like I think it will.
Well, I for one do not care for any "favoritism" given to anyone. As far as relationships with the Dev's, when players are beta testing new products like the Foundry there will necessarily be a more direct relationship with the developers working on that platform. Whether that becomes any type of favoritism remains to be seen, but I have not seen any and have not observed anyone attempting to curry favor or anything.

Hmmm.. While I can respect this opinion I don't agree with it. As paying subscribers, we all have paid for the implementation of the Foundry, so yes you have paid for it. It would seem like a waste if you could not get some enjoyment out of it, either playing some missions or making one yourself.
As for "Bleeding into the game" What do you mean? You don't HAVE to play anything in-game... Why should players be denied the exposure to good content? Specifically, content made available from Foundry by the Dev's is by its very nature "favored". Although said current content was Nominated by Forum Members, not the Dev's themselves.
Seems like someone is being a "Negative Nancy", but that's OK too. There is plenty of room for everyone here in STO and all opinions are welcome and ensure a broad conversation.
If someone does not like Foundry content for whatever reason that's just fine... their loss... just don't start complaining about nothing new to do...

I share your opinion, Cryptic has in fact catered more to certain elements of STO which shouldn't be the case though at the same time i have to wonder if in fact it is Cryptic vs. Atari forcing them into it. At the moment it is unfortunate at what has been catered and to that of certain elements that have been given this favoritism.
As for the foundry, iam rather skeptical when it comes to the foundry in part that at the moment it is rather limited in what it can and cant do. While iam sure that things are being changed and updated and overhauled as we speak, there is alot that needs to be addressed and could be accomplished through the foundry however at the moment i remain skeptical of what the future holds, why in part to the favoritism that has been given to the certain elements of STO community.
Depends on how many people want to work for Cryptic without getting paid.
Depends on how much work they can get out of me if I'm not fulltime with them. ;-)
I think I could honestly crank out quality missions VERY fast but with UGC, you get... Maybe 2 a month out of me and then cap me off at 8? With a limited toolset? That's not quite what they would get if I was an employee. :-)
If I were full time, I think 3-5 missions a week is more like what my workload potential would be. Less, obviously, with cinematics. No voiceover in the Foundry so I can't record for that.
I'm just saying... There's a far cry between what I could do as a professional content designer and as a foundry author. Even if they hired a bunch of us to develop using the Foundry toolset, without access to anything else, being able to do it fulltime is a lot different than as a hobby.
As they used to say in the 90's in the U.S., the Foundry had better be "all that and a bag of chips" because we've been waiting so long for this thing to go live that some of the anticipation and excitement for it has died down. I mean, what exactly are they still trying to fix on Tribble?

I'm amazed at how many of you are getting hung up on this statement.
I'm weirded out by all this talk of favouritism - just who is beign favoured? Feds over Klingons? PVP over PVE? If you're going to make an accusation at least have the decency to explain what it is rather than use mysterious phrases.
I haven't seen anything that could be described as favouritism.
