I personally hope they're all busy clearing rubble and saving their friends, family and fellow countrymen instead of wasting time thinking they should inform a bunch of people on a MMO forum about how they're doing.

A bit harsh, but a valid point. I would like to think that anyone who is actually effected by this wont be worrying with this forum for a bit.

"Keep us informed" is an utterly ridiculous request in the face of what's happening.

Not to seem uncaring, but would this not belong in "Ten Forward"?

Yes, it would. Namely because an earthquake is not STO discussion. Its it terrible? Certainly. Does it effect some STO players? Yes, but so do politics and religion, although that does not mean they should be discussed here.

So is posting an utterly ridiculous critique of someone genuinely expressing their concern for others they do not even know.

When I see some guy saying "keep us informed", the message they're conveying to me is: "Keep us informed, because you personally keeping us up to date on your situation is important. Nevermind your suffering and dying, keep US informed."

It's rather shameful that you call my perspective ridiculous.

If that had been all he said, you might at least have a point. However if you read the entire post you will see he is also expressing concern about them, and does so before the request to keep us informed. That said, I still agree with my previous posts in this thread.

I think you're reading into that one three-word sentence a bit much.

You're probably right, it was just tactless. But it really irritiates me to see some people with their priorities all wrong like that.

I suppose it did not occur to you that the OPs native language may not be English? Therefore, their intent did not translate properly?

To you, their message meant what you believe it meant. The OP could very well have meant something entirely different.

The OP expressed concern for people they do not even know, and you chose to berate the OP for that. Who is the shameful one?

oMDZ when I say keep us inform it mean when ever they come back the can see people have been think of them in hard time.
I think is nice if the come back to the game they can see a post with warn words for them.

I'll refrain to reply to some people in here as this is just for people who want to drop kind words to them.

You're being a bit harsh on someone whose writing is clearly someone who has English as a second language (or at least not very proficient in the language). I'm sure he didn't intend to say what you think it was.

EDIT: Shard-Warrior beat me to it.

This is Fleet Admiral Darren Wright of Federation Fleet
Airwane is expressing concern and hoping people are ok over there.

Our Fleet have 8 members in that region and any well wishing and kind thoughts are welcomed!!!!
We have been in touch with 2 of them and there ok. Fingers crossed the rest are ok too.

Unlike some members in this game , Federation Fleet is a community that looks after each other.

Any negative comments in this thread are shamefull and those people making them need to seriously take a step back and think of wat there saying and who it actually effects.

Airwane, nice post buddy and we all hope there ok. To others outside our fleet too we send our very best.
As others should be doing and not being harsh on well wisher in a terrible time.

Further negative posts will be ignored as we do not take part in them nor condone them.

This thread is to wish people well and some of us are worried about them.

Hopefully when we hear back back from them we can worry less.

    Best Wishes

    Fleet Admiral Wright
    Federation Fleet

Seeing this entire thread is very much off topic, I shall close here at this time. Obviously this is a matter that holds strong feelings for a number of people and may be too much for everyone involved in Star Trek Online.

It is indeed a terrible thing, and I have friends just across the Santa Crux mountains, 40 minutes from my office, who are worried deeply right now. Many in the office are directly affected by this. Still, let's not carry on this discussion here.

If this continues, I shall have to close down this thread as well. Please nice, please?

To our troubled Friends across an ocean and many miles away...,

From this ever caring, Irish Troll...

May a gentle road rise to greet you during these troubled times,
And a soft breeze be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face,
And rains fall soft and give you grace.
And until we meet again, in this our favorite place,
May God hold you in the hollow of His hand and bless you with his smiling face.

    :)
