Is it just me or does it bear a resemblence to the ultra fugly Imperial class?
I agree, but even the Vesta isn't as awful as the Imperial. At least the Vesta has something resembling the graceful lines of the Star Cruiser hulls, albeit jagged and hunchbacked.
That said, I originally thought that the godawful angle the Vesta is presented in in the Ships of the Line calendar, which makes its overall form almost impossible to perceive, might have been making it look worse than it actually does. I was wrong. It looks even more lumpy and misshapen in the other views.
Oh boy, another "PLZZZ GIVE US THE USS AVENTINE!!11" thread.
I have no problem with the ship whatsoever, and it would be cool to have in STO and I'm glad Cryptic will be adding it.
But, there's something about the way some people constantly bring it up and make new threads begging for it that irritates the hell out of me. Like a child who keeps poking and prodding his parents to buy him a specific toy or he'll throw a tantrum until he gets what he wants.
Don't you dare roll your eyes. You are not so important that you have the right to act disgusted, just because you haven't gotten what you want yet.
Sort of like how you used to repeatedly post about flying Galaxies in T5? Because, yeah, I found that repeatedly enjoyable.
The Vesta-class wouldn't do well as a Star Cruiser skin simply because STO Star Cruisers are much, much more massive in scope.
A cruiser configuration also wouldn't give the ship credit for the sheer amount of gadgetry it's deployed in the novels it was shown in.
Personally, I do want it. I do like it, though I felt Rademaker's Mk 2 remake was going to look much superior until he scrapped his redesign project in favor of submitting it in a hurry to appear on the 'Zero Sum Game' book cover. If it went in-game it would probably replace my long used Luna-class science vessel. That is, unless the STO Enterprise happens to be science officer friendly and that I actually like the winning design. ^_^;
What? Don't look at me like that. As much as we can all agree that the Enterprise would probably fit best as a cruiser, the best way to please a maximum number of fan is probably to make it ship type agnostic, with Boff stations making it equally good for all three professions (or universal seats, even, but I doubt that could get across without being very controversial).

I think you need to look up the definition of the term 'begging', because nothing at all the OP says is begging IMO. He's nice enough to show some Aventine pics (nice find btw OP), and states his hope that it will be in the game some day. Obviously, he didn't know that it's already planned.
I'm a... very angry man. That said, I am a Fed player, a Klingon player, I do want to see the Vesta added and I don't mind too much if someone doesn't do a forum search and posts a new thread for the first time saying they want a particular ship...
But I've seen some players create multiple threads spamming about wanting the Vesta added, and constantly bumping their own threads with "Come on Cryptic, let's have the Vesta!!". I kind of wish Cryptic would add the Vesta, and then prohibit those aforementioned players from ever getting to own one.
Check my post three above yours... at the bottom... this particualr rage may soon be short-lived...
Really like the design logic behind it - shades of the Sovereign and Intrepid classes, with a return to the 'compound curves' design aesthetic of Andrew Probert (iirc, Mark Rademaker is something of a proteg

Thanks for posting those pics, I'd love to see this in game, would it be a tier 6?
And for those that say "Omg not another thread like this!" please realise that not all of us have seen these pics and that we are interested in seeing "new" stuff.
i find this ship to be repulsive, and it looks so much like some of the ships in game that arnt playable yet... it would be a shame if this came b4 the ambassoder class lol...
but to each his own, ill just have a new reason to increase my kill count in pvp lol.. (yes, i do ocassionally target and hurass peaple who fly ships that i deem unfit for the game lol.....
Regarding similarities between Vesta and Imperial-class? So what? Who is the say that Vesta was not an inspiration? shrugs. Or, even a coincidence? It happens. I actually like both designs on their own merits.
It's fun to follow along a designer's blog. It seems that Mark Radmaker is as passionate for his Trek work as is Andrew Probert and Doug Drexler. I bought the Star Trek Magazine from a few months back. It had a great interview with Radamaker about the philososphies behind the design. Developed along side some of the newer Trek novels, they (collectively) seem to have established some interesting insights about Slipstream Drive. Since their isn't likely to ever be an official tv series set in the prime universe, these licensed, soft-canon resources (novels, games like STO, etc.) are all we have.
From what I've read around the web, Vesta-class has quite a following. I also won't be surprised if the Vesta-class becomes the Enterprise-F for the later purposes of the novels. The novels may have Vesta and STO will have whatever wins its contest.
I'm also not the slightest bit surprised that some Vesta-class fans are part of the STO community. I can't blame them for their excitement. It's fun to see elements of soft-canon become part of another soft-canon. Might even bring us new player's. Which is always a good thing for STO.
At least it's pretty clearly an advanced Star Cruiser. Don't deny it, you know it to be true.
No, the Star Cruisers take that body plan and actually make it graceful.
The ship in game with the closest body plan to the Aventine is actually the Typhoon-class soup spoon. It has a similar ungraceful partial join between the protruding part of the engineering hull and the saucer.

Back in my day, when I was a noob, it was the excelsior that got that level of posting going.
It never ceases to amaze me how subjective starship design and appreciation is...
You said it! And the hot threads on the forum at the moment are testament to this. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and there are some radical differences of opinion from starship design to starship design. It's amazing how dramatic those differences of opinion can be. That's fine, though, because, after all, we are striving for...
Hey, there is not much love for the Vesta class on memory beta etc so for those, like myself, who like this ship class I found these images on the blog of Mark Rademaker (here: http://mark-rademaker.blogspot.com/). Hope you enjoy, they are quite large images of the Vesta class Aventine.

Not to mention that if it was able to land, it would never be able to leave.
Welcome to the starship California, such a lovely place.

For what it's worth, the Vesta is thus far the only ship I'd front the cash for from the C-Store

The Aventine's just the newest "crusade" heh.
'Nuff said.

Infinite Diversity in Infinite Combinations!
Isn't the Vesta class about the size of the Nova...? (In other words, TEENY!)
According to Memory Beta:
Vesta: 672m by 195m by 88m
Nova: 165m by 81m by 31m
Sovereign: 686m by 251m by 88m
So, nope, it's Sovvy-sized.
But as another Assault Cruiser/ Excelsior/ Star Cruiser costume i wouln't say no to it, the nacelles look useful.
Thank you for reading.
