They're airing The Wrath of Khan on the SciFi channel. It's easily the best film of the big screen series. I think one of the things that makes this film comfortable and a joy to watch is the familiarity that the characters have with one another. I also like the great size you get of the starships with exterior shots and the intimacy you can feel with the interiors. In the not too distant future, I hoping Cryptic can get this feel down.
I'm also hoping that Cryptic or the Devs or whom ever, is able to infuse the BOffs with the same familiarity that the Enterprise crew was able to cultivate after years of service together. As a player, I find that I am very particular about my BOffs. I've guided them up the latter of command and I've taken a liking them.
Most of all, about TWoK, it's the story. No matter the special effects or the magical attributes of the BOffs or those fantasy starships, nothing matters if there isn't a good story to hang those characters on or with.

Just watched it and DVR'd it for my later viewing pleasure.:)
I've tried posting solutions to this, but I'm always ignored, so I have given up trying.
Hopefully when the Foundry goes live, Cryptic can get some ideas of what makes Star Trek. For me personally it's story, the plight, and the struggle of the crew to overcome that plight. And some awesome space combat as the cherry on top.
Whenever I think Star Trek, the first thing that always pops into my mind is that wonderful Nebula battle.
Well, you see, this is a "roleplaying" game. The idea is that the characters are supposed to make up their own story. This is done in smaller scale through fleets. Every bit of story they write just confines the players to a situation they might not necessarily choose.
There's a book out for the game for those who desire to read it and get some sample background. Some of the missions and recent episodes have done a good job setting up the basic political situation among the factions. If you stop and think about it, that's about the best they can do without stepping on toes.
This too. The foundry will be a dream come true for roleplaying fleets. They can have missions designed just for their fleet to engage in, and excellent storytelling mechanism.
Even further off topic, Robin's avatar is really hot.
No offense, but this reponse really ****es me off.
If I'm to imagine everything, why the hell am I paying for this game, I can sit in my room and imagine forever. What I meant was that the game universe is very one dimensional. We fight, and everything in the game revolves around fighting. When the Klingons stopped me over P'Jem and said the Ambassador was an imposter, my first reaction was, "What? Well, come aboard and we'll see if it's true." Unfortunately, I wasn't actually given that option, it was KILL, KILL, KILL.
Scientists do RESEARCH, but what passes as research in the game is laughable. Imagine how fights would be reviled if all you did was walk into range and press F.
Engineering is somewhat better, but is strangely restricted to one place, Memory Alpha.
How about being able to visit places? How about being able to interact with people from the bridge of your ship? How about being able to interact with your BOs? How about being able to decorate MY OWN QUARTERS? Oh, I can pretend I'm visiting Bajor, but the game really should make it possible to DO it.
If we're going to roleplay, there are certain tools we need to do it. Unfortunately, the shallowness isn't restricted to roleplaying.
Hey, I didn't mean to get you upset.
I was just trying to say that MMO's are different from single-player games. You can't have scripted character development like with something like Mass Effect. People confiding something in you would break the mood because they confided in the thousands of other players just like you. SWtOR is gonna try to have a highly customized NPC that bridges this gap, but they have crazy resources going in to that to try to pull it off.
My whole argument is without character development, the storyline can't be very deep. That's all. Again, sorry for angering you.
I would have thought the first thing you would think about were those cute female uniforms from TOS.
Anyway the first thing I think about is Space Chess. Mostly because I am still wondering how you would play such a thing.
I have my own story going. Behind everything is the Forces of Chaos.
And yeah guy. Somethings like character development you have to provide. They can't script everyone's character the same or else why even bother letting you make your own and interact with other characters who are exact clones of yours.
Don't be sorry, you have no reason to be, it's a general thing. I didn't mean to single you out or anything. I've seen that kind of comment so many times, it just gets under my skin. As a Roleplayer, I need tools to play the game just as much as a leveler does.
You're right to a point. There are ways to allow us to roleplay that wouldn't be overly crazy. However, my issues with the depth of the game go way beyond character development. Actual game systems are extremely shallow, making the world itself incredibly shallow. I'd like more RP tools, but I think the world itself has to be deepened with more complex basic systems.
Consider - WHY are we fighting? When I go into a mission, the enemy ALWAYS fights to the death. There's no sense that they have any particular REASON to do so, they just do. Further, there's no repercussions for this. I go in one mission and save a Meltzilian base from enemy attack and on the next, they're trying to kill me for scanning a rock. It's disconnected, if you take my meaning.
I actually want to write a big time review, so I won't get into any more here, but I think my point is fairly clear.
And again, I apologize if I worded my earier diatribe poorly.
