Well, for the immediate future, I'm collecting 5th Order badges of exploration.
But that's a short term distraction, once I have 1000 of them per character, I'm done.
FYI, I only have two characters (one per faction).
If there's a new ship that comes out, I collect marks of exploration to arm it up and then some more exploration badges to replace the ones I used on consoles.
But again, that's only a short term activity.
And I doubt I'll be buying a new ship, unless they come out with a really interesting NEW Starfleet cruiser.
By really interesting, I mean it has a very special and unique power or distinctive look.
The old cruisers aren't that interesting to me, so I don't want any of them.
Since I have a maxed KDF already, that content update is meaningless to me, not worth bothering with.
Likewise, player authored missions don't hold any purpose for me.
A level cap rise or Featured Episodes are the only reasons I play now.
So in the final analysis, between content updates, I guess the only thing I really come into the game for is a C-Store costume update for our Captains.
But even those have been hit or miss lately, I've been rejecting as many (or more) as I bought.
Step 1. Steal all the Grand Negus' Latinum.
Step 2. Invade Orion.
Step 3. ???
Step 4. Prophet? (or is that Profit?)
But seriously I have no idea, I'll finish up my current projects, make silly comments on the boards, probably max some character in DAII work my way though the stoked Archives. Pray for a very rare auto leveling sword. Not sure what else I could do.
I havent played that game in quite some time, though I'm still tempted to reactivate my sub every now and then just to run around in my suit of Mando. It seems like such a shame to have spent all the time to get that and now have it sit on an inactive account(same goes for my elder Jedi I suppose), but I just cant quite make myself do it. Has anything new or exciting happened lately?
I guess it depends on when you quit and what you enjoyed doing.
- They've opened the PvP battles to major cities, expanded Reb/Imp capture points throughout most planets and added the GCW invasions (http://swg.wikia.com/wiki/Bestine_GCW_Invasion). They also added a GCW tokens to purchase items (armor, weapons, deco...etc.).
If PvP was your thing, then I'd say give the new changes a go. Couldn't hurt.
- Expanded bio-engineering with several new pet species with the chance to mutate stats and appearance.
- Their version of a mission creation tool is called "Chronicles" but it's hardly worth mentioning except for some of the items you receive after grinding the content.
- As for mini games, they improved the fishing and added bonus' to those that catch the record for whatever type of fish it is and planet they're on. The rare of each type also grants a temp travel power to the city you live in. They also have a mahjong machine, a jubilee wheeland a lugjack machine http://swg.wikia.com/wiki/Gambling_games.
- They also added the Witches of Dathomir quest line and the quarantine zone.
Likely unsubscribe for a few months then come back. I know alt-o-holics find it hard to beleive that many of us don't play alts but we don't. This game isn't different enough from one class to the next to make it exciting to play an alt all the way up. Not for everyone.
Gringing the accolades in this game is a rediculously boring chore for zero reward.
If re-running old missions gave emblems I coudl tolerate playing longer. because then I would see myself gaining some kind of reward for replaying old content. As it is right now, once you're VA, and have your ship and BO's specced out, ( somethign that doesn't take more than a month for a brand new player ) there's nothign left to do but roll an alt.
The gameplay experience won't change a heck of a lot just because I roll sci or engy.
It's still the same ships, the same missions and so on.
And then there's the problem of getting a second factional character up to the level of your first.
For some reason, I can never seem to get a second character as good as the first one.
Maybe it's because focussing on one character allows you to get it right.
So, at the moment, I have 2 characters (1 Starfleet, 1 KDF) and won't make another until the next faction (Romulans) and the one after that (Cardassians) comes out.
I'll be planning to roll a sci for the Cardassian faction, so see no point in doing it on the Fed or KDF side.
I wanted to be enthusiastic about the Foundry, but meh.
I've felt Meh about the Foundry several times since its initial release on Tribble, but every time I play another well made player mission it reminds me how great it is and what a huge difference its going to have on the game.
Well the featured series 3 was alot of fun, but with that over it will now be several months before Season 4 and Cryptic has said that the next featured series probably wont be coming out until then as well. That means we're in for several months of no new official content except for C-store updates. What do you play to do to stay busy and entertained during the Great Content Drought?
Let my subscription run out and then go play Lord of the Rings Online...
I believe that Cryptic is about to make its first big mistake since Dan took the helm. Focusing several months on reinventing the ground combat game when we STILL have a faction that is being treated like the red-headed stepchild at an all-brunette-haired family reunion is not in my opinion the right direction they need to be taking.
Cryptic keeps saying they want to bring the Klingon faction on par with the Federation. Well, then blast it, they should just do it. They should take the time and resources they are about to sink into the ground combat reinvention and balance the factional gameplay. Either that of fix the bugs that people have been reporting and get two more featured episodes out.
I see what is about to happen, and it is exactly what we were told would NOT happen. They are going to launch the Foundry on Holodeck right before they get started on the ground combat reinvention process, relying on US to deliver the gameplay content. So no thank you. I will be playing another MMO where if I choose to pay anything, it will be strictly for content that is officially designed.
I refuse to let Cryptic coast on my subscription for four months durring which time nothing but stuff that requires me to spend MORE money if I want it is introduced on the C-store.
I've got stories I want to tell through the Foundry ALONG SIDE whatever stories Cryptic can tell. ALONG SIDE, not IN PLACE OF.
We were told that Foundry would not be a crutch for Cryptic to lean on as an excuse to not develop content. Content is what keeps people playing. The existing combat will be fine if they would just fix the bugs we've been reporting. Its the hoops they have us jumping through that make the ground game such a pain.
I refuse to touch the Foundry on Tribble because if I am going to devote time to it, I want to be sure that I don't have to recreate it from scratch on Holodeck. And I refuse to touch it on Holodeck while Cryptic is putting forth no effort to the development of new content, particularly when they have been promising the KDF that their day is coming for PvE content.
I'll tell my stories to suplement Cryptic's stories. If they expect me to act as their replacement, they can pay me or give me a free subscription until they get back to work doing what should be done in a post-launch MMO: Fixing the bugs and adding content.
I realize that not everyone feels that way. But I do. And the OP did ask what I plan to do. I just chose to also explain why.
Oh, I'll be back. and I am not going to waste my subscription which I have paid for, so I'm good for almost a month here. So this is not an I Quit post. Its just an "I know when I'll be taking my next break from the game" post.
I largely agree, except that I think ground combat needs a good hard look in addition to fixing the glaring bugs.
But if they'd put some effort into this over time, as with smoothing out the space system, instead of deferring everything to this one big push, then this problem wouldn't exist.
Only upside is that if it's too hard even to fix mere bugged damage numbers on ground mobs at this point, a true overhaul is probably going to requite the remastering of every mission with a ground component or not work at all. Well... given some other things in the game... TRIBBLE, maybe they'll just leave them incompatible until they get around to them
I'm kinda hoping that during wait for Season 4 that we can have some in-game events to help pass the time. Some ideas:
Maybe the Borg adapt to Battle Group Omega's signature masking and they start to make a push out of Gamma Orionis. Maybe we could have a GM lead event where Borg instances are spawned constantly, and us players have to keep pushing them back.
Maybe Klingons are demaning access to the Bajoran wormhole and Starfleet responds with a blockade the sector. Klingon factor players battle against Federation players through the Neutral Zone and Defari sectors as the Klingons push towards Deep Space Nine and the wormhole.
Maybe the Gamma Quadrant Dominion forces desire to test the waters and send some of their fleet through the wormhole for the first time since the retaking of DS9 during the Dominion War. Starfleet and the KDF consider this to be a violation of the treaty that ended the war and form a blockade around Deep Space Nine to halt any further incursion into the Alpha Quadrant.
Just some suggestions. I realize that ideas such as these might be unable to be accomplished without large technical additions and I can understand that. I was trying to think of events that could be ran by a GM without need to actually add code or other content. But I could see how a few weekend or week-long events similar to these events would definitely keep us players entertained while Season 4 is being worked on. Plus I've wanted to see some in-game events for a while...so I'm looking for any excuse.
I am going to level up my Science Captain, and try to reach ambassador with my other characters and try to become real rich. If i am very bored i even try to level my klingon Character, but not very likely.
I think that investing MONTHS into revamping Ground Combat is too much time, and Cryptic is doing a big mistake here, they should instead create more content, like more sectors, fleet starbases, craftable ships, open PvP zones, revamping Exploration (which is much more important than ground combat IMHO).
Revamping ground combat is similar than improving old missions, there is just nothing new t do.
The 4 month commitment isn't that ground combat revamp will take 4 months.
The STO team is moving the game over to a new code branch which is scheduled to be available then. Some of the ground combat changes aren't possible without that new code - as is new tech that will feature into endgame and exploration plans for future seasons.
Also, that four months has a number of systems:
both the Duty Officer and Bridge Officer systems (which Heretic says are on track to release together),
new KDF content including a tutorial and content to lead them to level 6 (when PvP and the weeklies become available),
and the Ground Combat System
Not to mention a new weekly series either starting before or right as the new ground combat changes get added.
Drought? What drought? The STO galaxy will still be there to allow me to explore every nook and cranny imaginable with a lifetime of endless possibilities.

I think the term is being used in reference to those that have already done that.

No matter what analogy you want to use, just see the last sentence of my post you quoted:
"That may be true, but simply saying that doesnt actually make the situation any better."
But that's a short term distraction, once I have 1000 of them per character, I'm done.

I think I follow what your saying. Would you prefer it be called the Great FE draught?
Why would it be a draught? Didn't the devs learn their lesson after having us mix drinks?
I guess it depends on when you quit and what you enjoyed doing.

- Crafting has been improved and expanded.
- The new collection system also keeps you going with goals that reward some really great items. http://swg.wikia.com/wiki/Collection.
Also, have you checked on your toons lately? They've consolidated the servers so if you didn't do a character transfer, your toons my be gone.
Yes, I transferred them to Starsider when they were doing the server merges. Thanks for the updates
No release date yet: so it might be before and it might be after Season 4.

Some players though won't roll alts.

I'm actually using this time to build up my Klingon alt.
He's undergone a few cosmetic changes while I settle on a look. I'm fond to the ST:VI Klingon look.
Have you ever played the war games mission on the cardassian front? (its a section 31 mission)

That's not a Foundry mission.
What I meant is that our ships don't have holosuites yet and holosuites aren't set up on any of the stations for Foundry use.
