But, seeing as how Cryptic has made the foundry a center point for new content(i dont agree with that), then already, new content is going to be limited.
Perhaps for each individual person creating missions, but even if the cap remains at 8 like it currently is on the test server, if only 5,000 of the roughly 80k that play STO use all of their slots, that will be 40,000 missions.
What do you play to do to stay busy and entertained during the Great Content Drought?
Continue tinkering in CO (though admittedly, at level 38 I'm starting to get bored). Replay DA:O to prepare for eventually getting DA2. Eagerly await Portal 2.
Wow I'm kinda shocked that they will allow players to add stories to the game. I could understand if they said these were holonovels and you use the holodeck to access or make them.
Assuming the crafting dailies aren't compelling enough to lure me onto Holodeck more than once in a blue moon; then Darkspore, Portal 2, Champions, and testing the Season 4 changes on Tribble.
Doing dailies, PvP, I might grind through crafting so I can make my own stuff, and finally level a Klingon. I've heard the Feh'kiri story is one of the best in the game. And I'll be sure to make it a Gorn, so when they update is released I can have my own baby godzilla .
I see bad things coming for STO, and its really sad to see.
This drought is going to make alot of people rethink about this game and or leave all togeather. I had a fleet of over 10+ players, and they were very active, now only 4-5 remain including myself. And on that note... we dont do to much. We just chat in vent and run some old missions and then call it a night. I have the luxery to do so seeing as I have lifetime. But others pay monthly fee's, and with a 15 dollar a month hit, people will find other games to get more content from.
They can do some remastered episodes ect.. but that wont do any good. Yes its nice to see, but to me all I see them do is fixing things over and over and over and over again and nothing really new coming out. Yes they re did esd, but thats just cosmetic stuff. Fixing sector space.. again cosmetic. Yes the new romulan series was a blast, and ill clap at them for doing a great job on that. But now we are stuck with repetitive dailies that are really a complete bore.
Dabo is a nice little thing on the side to do, gives you a chance to be in game and have some fun, but really there isnt anything else like that in game to do. PVP hahhaha well.. pvp is just a major loss for this game atm. And until that is fixed, I stay away from it. KDF content..... yep thats all i have to say on that
So for now.. ill hop on see whos on and then log off and go play starcraft 2 with a fleety and hope some new game comes out..
Nobody will be deleting the mission but you. However, you will have a limited number of slots, so if you reach your limit and you want to create more, then you might have to make that choice.
Thats not what I meant though, what I meant was if an author uploads a mission and thats still considered a slot, unless its actually uloaded to the server.
Well the featured series 3 was alot of fun, but with that over it will now be several months before Season 4 and Cryptic has said that the next featured series probably wont be coming out until then as well. That means we're in for several months of no new official content except for C-store updates. What do you play to do to stay busy and entertained during the Great Content Drought?
Well, I for one will set my account on ice for a undefined time.
It is how it is. The game is in many parts just but grind or not understandable skilling or item choice. It is still mostly not feeling like Star Trek. Nevertheless, the dev's did, especially since Season 3, a great job, ...but way beyond from acceptable. By all means, as long there is not enough to bind me to the game, I see no reason to lenghtend my account time. I was more than patient since the release but it is enough.
Things I dislike were:
Grind...err, I mean, scan 5 / kill 5
What Skill do what? And why so many doing different things, but at the same time sharing the improvement.
Item chaos. Same thing like the sklill system. To what skill is ist real bound? -It is not about findig out, but beeing way to complicated to do it right.
Crucial C-Store only things, like skill retrain. As shure pressumed, I used by now all my tokens and had to buy new ones, still didn't got it right. If I would be mean, I would pressume the whole skill and item system was intended to be hard to understand to make the players buy the tokens from C-Store. ...But I am not mean.
No real socialisation hot spots. Not to mention roleplay... role-what? Exactly! No felt immersion in the game at all.
No reatalliation gametime for unannounced and/or expanded server downtimes, which came a lot since the latest episodes.
The R&D is not thought really through. You can build everything competitive to the loot, but the harvesting of the materials is a pure grind.
The economic system is a joke. I do not expect to be to complicated, but at least it should have to be a rudimental one, that at least work. Every category in STO has its own currency. Heck, I know about at least 4 different of them and I would't be suprised if ther are even more.
No featured contend for at least 4 moths
But there are things I like as well, and for improving and using them in other new contend may draw me back and reasign:
The Char editor. Still a masterpiece wich as we all know from CO has a lot more to offer as STO allow. I have no doubt in his time, it will get more options.
The second featured episode series, great story design.
The third featured episode series, a little weak in storydesign as the second, but ingenious in the missiondesign and new ideas.
Sector space.
The Foundry, but it needs a lot of time until there would be enough missions to have a real alternative as the whole grid missions in the game.
So, as you all see, there is 9 to 5(actually 4,5) for me against the game. Sorry Cryptic.
Lets keep in mind, this horrible 'drought' in content is actually shorter than the 'drought' in most other MMO's I play/have played, and they haven't had horrible results. WoW, for example, released an expansion in early December, and hasn't had any new content since. Same goes for other games. We've just gotten spoiled by the constant stream of content, fixes, and changes we've had here since this game was released. Now that its slowing down to normal MMO levels, it seems slow.
I'll probably log in from time-to-time and work on some of my other characters. This is the only MMO I'm currently playing. I've got DA2 on the way, so I'll play that some.
Concerning the Foundry, I don't mean to belittle the efforts of any of the authors, but by and large I have found the missions on the Foundry to not match the quality of what the Devs can do. Some have been pretty good, but I'm looking for the polish the Dev team brings to a mission. Frankly, I don't feel like sifting through a ton of Foundry missions to find one that seems like the author really did a great job.

As a general rule, I have found the missions that people advertise on the forums and other sites to be of a higher quality. So rather than "sifting" through the missions in game, check the Foundry forum and if you see someone advertising their mission then look up that specific mission in game.

The Dev's have raised the bar for mission quality lately and that's a good thing. There is a vast range of quality for STO missions for the sake of comparison. Can a Foundry Mission compete with all the new bells and whistles the Dev's have rolled out recently? Competing is one thing, but winning the competition is another.
The Foundry toolset is very limited compared to what the Dev's can do. While this toolset has been significantly expanded lately, those high-end features are not available.
What makes Foundry Missions appealing is the Stories, not the shiny bells and whistles. The stories are the reason why authors go to such great lengths to learn the tools and spend hours tinkering.
While some will cry about how lame or limited these missions are by their very nature, that is not the point of their existence.
STO players can always go grind through current Holodeck content in pursuit of shinnies, but those who crave NEW STORIES should look to the Foundry to get a good Trek fix.
I will be:
> finishing off and polishing my Foundry Missions
> Adding more missions in my Foundry series
> levelling my current toons, making Will Captain at least.
> possibly get round to actually playing a Klink long enough for them to be able to claim a new ship!

Also keep in mind that games that can do that, and not have content rolled out as much as sto has, has alot of content for you to enjoy. So while your waiting for the next big release, theres tons of stuff to do and enjoy. STO is trying to do its best, which I give full credit to the dev team, but again, the game was launched way before it should of. Its been doing the "catch up" game since launch. And has done some leaps and bounds by far.
But if they really want to be competitive and keep there player base which is growing, they need to start thinking bigger, and making their team... bigger. This will help in many fronts.
Its been said, you can never keep up to some players, that is true, but you can make things in game that are fun that people will do over and over again because of that fact. And thats what STO needs. Get more mini games like POKER ect out there. I know mini games wont solve all the issues but if theres something fun and enjoyable to do, then people will continue to log in. But thats just my 2 cents on the matter :P

playing lots of games, and STO won't be one of them ! i'll be back tho "life-account".
and i wonder how the foundry will turn out, love to give that a crack, hate to do things twice so i'll probably start tinkering with it wen it lands on live servers.
I'll help my cute gurlfriend Meowrika leveling up her character to Vice Admeowral and show her more how STO basically worx since she still has lots of prublems playing the game on groundisodes.
I'll also try out the Fundry when it eventually comes out in Aprul or May. Also I'll be trying to finish Kittymeow Accord to get that last Borg set item. Hopefully after today's meowntenance they will have fixed the KA Dunatra bug.
I actually have a better answer than the one I wrote before:
Dailies: I have got to do a TON of dailies. earn as much emblems as possible for all the stuff I may need.
Exploration: Vito'D, Crimto, they aint got nothin on me. I will chart each and every cluster as if I was catching all the pokemon.
PVP!: My fleet has become VERY pvp focus'ed lately with the arrival of a old friend. We got builds workin out. Planning to do, We even have our own Teamspeak all set up and ready
Mission Replay: I have a feeling I am going to use this a lot. I love going through old missions. collecting kill accolades or ones that I have missed before.
Accolade Hunting: Yup. I got a nice list of ones I should have done eventually: Legendary, Scourge of Terran Empire, Scourge Of Starfleet, Order Of The Bat'leth. Poloran Emitter, Invoker.
So is the Foundry gonna be on the ships holodeck? I haven't put any kind of research into it yet.
Dev's said quite a while ago now - if i remember rightly - that it was their intention to introduce holodeck's into the game for accessing foundry content. I'm guessing either the plans have changed slightly or it will take them some additional time to implement.
you are right though, this is the perfect use for them in game, it follows canon and is consistent with star trek's television series to set episodes in this format.
Hmmm work on my alts play with the ofundry when it is released and before long something shiney wil ldraw me away from STO for a while, toss up between rifts dragon age 2 and sims midieval who knows.
Though if the Foundry is released before I veer off to something else I might be around for a while as I started laying out my story ideas for my first foundry project last night and ooh would it be cool if I can successfully trnaslate it from me brain to the game
In any event I'll be around sooner or later I'm a lifer.

Thanks for the tip.
Though once the Foundry goes live I will be exclusively making some Klingon missions that will be so good they will blow your mind.
/BOOM!

cryptic made missions are not canon either. at most they are soft canon just like the books are.
or maybe the point is to have fun whilst playing them. regardless of whether they are canon or not.?
Neither are the STO missions. The devs have stated as much.
I dunno, what did we do for fun before the Featured Episodes? :P
