I really don't see why people think this is a completely unreasonable request. (unfeasible perhaps however)
Its not an issue of censorship, stifling your rights, or some other overblown nonsense. Its simply a player who wishes that Starfleet looked like...Starfleet rather then a rogue group of bandits. Thats it.
The creative control allowed by players in this game is a double edged sword, it both allows people for tremendous creative freedom in shaping their character but it also chips away and the disciplined nature of Starfleet and a lesser extent the Klingon Empire. Immersion is largely based on individual perception in this game and I can completely understand how someone would have an issue with ships that look half borg, tron-ish, and starfleet running with romulan/reman outer hulls.
That being said if possible a DEFAULT toggle for uniforms and ships is a really good idea for those who want to be immersed in the star trek universe. As it stands STO is more like a game with Star Trek nods then a Star Trek game and lately thats become even more apparent. I understand that star trek immersion is different for different people but I really think anything that can tone down some of the more ridiculous aspects in STO who want that feeling is a good thing.
I probably will never use it but I have no problem with something like that being implemented ingame.
Lol, well what? I mean Sela was using Shinzon's ship for Kirk's sake. The Remans use all the other Romulan Warbirds in the series and movies, so how are they different? Or wait... did the Remans do what pure Star Trek Cannonists have not been able to do? Have they taken an old ship and refited it with Reman technology up to 25th Century standards...

hmmm... thoughts to be pondered.
Remans have nothing of their own. This quaint idea that they should be a separate entity, would have to hinge on them continuing to nick Romulan assets. Killing off all the Rebels and let the rest work for their hardware now that would be a good plan. Slight derail, carry on. And death to overly bright lights and space junk on ships, for good measure.
My recent fly-by of Earth space dock showed that nearly all the ships there were black and green, black and Tron, or Borgified. By introducing the rare shields with stats that cannot be touched by any other shields, along with the similar modifications made by other items it means we're about to have nothing at all left of the original Federation ship design - its just going to be Borg-ish, Reman-ish, or Tron-ish ships from here on out. Pity.
The Reman shield has the exact same stats as a Covariant Cap x2. The only thing it adds is a new look.
The Aegis shield has bonuses but unless you PvP or whatever, at VA level, it's only the equivalent of a Mk X not a Mk XI, so are the stat and set bonuses really worth keeping for a purple Mk XI?
The shields are *nice*, but they're not as all powerful as you seem to be implying.

Yes when I equipped the Aegis set and borg console to my RSV it turned into a blue Borg Sphere.
"Can be turned off" is the operative word here. And my intention was to point out that if the Federation is to remain familiar, it will be necessary to have Federation ships that look like Federation ships - and, to that end - to have shields and consoles that enhance the look of Federation ships in a more Federation fashion which do the same and better as the ones that alter them in a non-Federation fashion.
How would that go then? Add another saucer? Grey shiny metal bits?
YOU are a member of STARFLEET. You fly the ships of the line. You are not a privateer racing out into the unknown reaches of the universe to build a mine and raid planets.
YOU are a member of Starfleet IN 2409 not 2269, since it seems you use TOS unis .
I do though like the idea of more fed looking things but I don't think the Aegis is un-fed looking already, Borg and Reman ya though.
Anyway this is an MMO game, you can't have everyone looking the same in an MMO that's just not on. What's with trekkies and being control freaks(regards to toggles).
Get wrapped up in your own characters/ships/stories and don't worry so much about what other people around you are doing?
The basis for this complaint just reminds me of those people who drive at 40 miles an hour on the freeway, staring-staring-staring at a car wreck on the side of the road, forcing everyone else to go their speed instead of driving the actual speed limit and focusing on their own driving and what's ahead so everyone on the road can go.
What's next, complaints about non-Trek characters? Are my Fed and Klink Tactical Elves next to be targetted by hard-core Trekkies who don't want non-Trek names and characters in their universe? IDIC only goes so far, I guess...

Which is why i'm arguing to stop this non-sense right here and now. How far will it go if it is allowed? What is next. This is an MMO. If you don't like the Muti-player and customization aspect of this game, then I'm sorry, perhaps you wasted your money. Everybody's tastes are different. We all need to tolerate it.
I know what you're saying I really do. However, I have seen a lot of normal looking ships as well. I believe that there is more normal ships then strange ones.
Um, you could have made it a bit more clear ya know. Your thread started out doing nothing but complaining about people rolling around with the other ones, and barely said a word beyond about offering comparative shield arrays for the feds so that ships would have a more fed look about them.
Perhaps if you had read the whole thing you would have seen otherwise.
The Reman shield has the exact same stats as a Covariant Cap x2. The only thing it adds is a new look.

Oh, I think you misunderstand. When you add the three pieces of Aegis tech together you get a special bonus. I believe the Borg tech does something similar...but I don't have it so I can't be sure...so it has benefits that your typical Covariant shield cannot.
The Aegis set is not Tron-ish. It's a distinctly futuristic Federation look. Tron does not exist in the Star Trek universe. You'd have to ask Cryptic if they had tron specifically in mind when they designed the look of the set, but in the STO universe itself, they have nothing to do with Tron.
The reason you see it as Tron-ish is because you know what Tron is and you can't or won't try to separate the name or "brand" from the appearance of blue glowy lines on an object. I suggest you try to roleplay a little and recognise that the Aegis appearance is the future of Federation ship design.
Oh, I think you misunderstand. When you add the three pieces of Aegis tech together you get a special bonus. I believe the Borg tech does something similar...but I don't have it so I can't be sure...so it has benefits that your typical Covariant shield cannot.
No, I don't misunderstand about the Aegis set. I don't think the bonus it provides is terribly helpful, at it seems to be a random proc and doesn't provide a tremendous bonus. Is it nice? Sure it is. Is it good to have in PvP? Probably. but, does it necessarily make it better than a purple Mk XI? I don't know. It's probably an even wash but I don't have any numbers, nor would I know how to acquire them personally, to find out. I just don't think its enough to *really* say the Aegis shield to complete the set is so much better than anything else.
I don't see why people would have a problem with players being able to disable the visuals, and not see the modifications on other ships. It doesn't hurt your self expression in any way. You would never know if someone had the visuals disabled. I don't know why people would want to force someone to see the garbage glowing and hanging off their ship anyway.
You would be expressing your self and they would be expressing themselves.

I actually DON'T misunderstand - I have Aegis tech on my Hegh'ta BoP, and while I'm at it, Borg Tech on my Maelstrom variant, and Remen shields on my Connie refit. Also been a Trekkie since 1975.

The reason we don't like it is not necessarily this one issue, but where does it stop. this is an MMO. Customization and visual difference is part of the game. Sure we can throw a filter into the game so people only see the default ships. Next people will be crying for filters or worse to edit out all of the TOS/TMP/TNG ships because it doesn't fit their view of game. Next we'll have calls (like we've already had) for separate servers so people who like TOS or TNG can do their own thing and those that want new 2409 stuff can be on theirs. Then we'll have servers inside of servers because people only want cannon names or cannon uniforms, or cannon species, because anything else breaks their immersion. So now instead of having an MMO, we have a segregated game because people are intolerant of others individuality. Customization and individuality are part of the game. They shouldn't be edited out because you don't like it, or it doesn't fit your definition of what should and shouldn't be. Once you start there can be no end.
dont care aslong as the give me a tron bike for ground missions
I must have tron bike now *grrr*
For me all this stuff is just a lost cause I have given up and started to enjoy it, beside captain's yacht +reman shield is your ride to every nightclub on Risa

It's a different kind of MMO. Star Fleet is a organization who wears uniforms and has regulations about ships and protocol. It wasn't wear whatever you want and do what ever you like to your ship. A lot of people want to see the ships look the way they did on the shows and films.
There really is no freedom of speech or expression in the game Cryptic decides what can be said and done with characters and ships. We use the game at their discretion.
My problem is this: Having Cryptic make a toggle option such as a small minority want, is a complete waste of resources and development time that is much better spent elsewhere.
Considering what one frequently sees in sector space, the people QQ'ing about this are a very small minority.

On the first part of your post, 1) it was stated in "path to 2409" that Star Fleet allowed any era uniform to be used as a Star Fleet uniform. 2) all NPC ships look like they do in Star Trek. None of them have the Special ageis or Borg stuff when they are flying around ESD or in any mission where you encounter them. Its only player operated ships that sport the different looks. and it can be construed that by having this stuff in game and equip-able, and in some cases craft-able at Fed outposts or given as Fed rewards, it is OK with Star Fleet to equip these items.
On the second part of your post, Very true..and currently we all have the options to have our ship look however we want. However, they do take feedback in deciding what things they will change or new features being added.

I agree with the Klingon.
It seems like a natural conclusion that the Aegis "look" could be the future of Federation ship design; advancements in technology happen. They LOOK like Federation ships to me, but with advancements in the shield/deflector grid upon the hull. The Galaxy-class was based off the general design of the Constitution-class, which which the Excelsior and Ambassador-class ships all helped progress. None of those ships could separate their saucer from their hull, automated and on purpose, fly independently, and choose to crash-land it on purpose on a planet.
Ship designs progress, why can't the appearance of shield technology?

1- It doesn't make sense and Path to 2409 isn't canon. I don't care if the game is based on it. Canon is what was on the movies and shows.
2- Except the players ships don't look like they did in Star Trek with all the glowing jagged TRIBBLE hanging from them.
That's what people are doing they don't like having to look at a lot of this junk. They are wanting these new features added.
Then why are people wearing TOS era uniforms in the 25th century? Conformity get's blown out the airlock with the uniform free-for-all.
You hardly ever see the uniforms people wear. Unless you spend a lot of time at ESD or some other station. I wouldn't mind a toggle for that too.
You do. You have complete control over what you want to wear, and how you want your ship to appear.
Yes, I am well aware of that. If you didn't like what I chose to wear or the way I modified my ship. I wouldn't mind if you had a toggle not to see it. I can cut off the names so I don't have to see Malcolm Reynolds of the Serenity.
Honestly, I absolutely hate the AGT and TMP uniforms, plus all the USS EnterpriZes, Serenitys, Picards, Kirks, Adamas etc, but...really, I'm gonna let that ruin my fun why? I'm gonna fixate on that why? I'm gonna cry about it why?
Damn, a ton of people lined up in here who need to get their ATARI 2600 and E.T. game.
2- Except the players ships don't look like they did in Star Trek with all the glowing jagged TRIBBLE hanging from them.

Here is a canon picture of the USS Voyager during the series when it was upgraded with borg components. So I guess borg parts on ship is canon.
Let me guess....you don't count that episode as canon? Just like the game being based off of "path to 2409" as not canon. So then the game is technically not canon and should not be judged as such. Therefore there should never again be a canon vs not canon argument for this game.
I actually DON'T misunderstand - I have Aegis tech on my Hegh'ta BoP, and while I'm at it, Borg Tech on my Maelstrom variant, and Remen shields on my Connie refit. Also been a Trekkie since 1975.

Well, then your Aegis set doesn't do what mine does. Because mine has some neat properties of being able to adapt to incoming fire to offer a counter-bonus to those weapons - ALL weapons. And some other nifty little things as well. Plus it has a recharge rate and a base rate which was 2000 points more than my Covariantx2 shields. Clearly you do misunderstand, probably because you haven't investigated this matter fully. Do so and then let me know what you think.
