And my ship has red racing stripes... cuz, ya know, that makes it faster.
my ship has reman shields cos well its the only other model available to my raptor, so if your going to cry its to tron instead cry kdf dont have enough customizing 1st and then complain its too tron.
YOU are a member of STARFLEET. You fly the ships of the line. You are not a privateer racing out into the unknown reaches of the universe to build a mine and raid planets.
This is why it should be an optional toggle.
So many people willing to mandate what others wear - like we're all playing pretend in the park and one person decides to be king and the others must follow.

I am a 21st century game player who believes that this is a GAME and a player should be allowed to play the game however he feels like regardless of others opinions. This includes all visual customization and specific ships he decides to play/fly.

im an orion pirate actually the closest i come to starfleet is when my torps whack you up the side the head

The people asking for a toggle actually feel the exact same way. They arent asking to control how you look, just an option not to see it on their screen. Thats no different than not looking at people you dont want to see in RL, except that you have to look at the screen to play this game.

But adding that toggle would just placate those people and hinders my ability to express myself in game. Customization and individuality is part of an MMO regardless of others likes and dislikes.

I know I've lost you completely somewhere along the way. You construed this as a censorship argument and nothing so far has changed your view on that. I don't have an interest in taking away YOUR ability to be creative. I'm simply suggesting that the DEVs take the time and effort to offer alternative options to encourage people to use shields and mods that don't change the the look of the ships into Reman/Borg/Tron variants.
Ok I'm going to get a drink before I do this shingdig again. But yes. I am against any form of making my ship look less borgy or trony on anyone elses screen because that is a form of censorship.
But adding that toggle would just placate those people and hinders my ability to express myself in game. Customization and individuality is part of an MMO regardless of others likes and dislikes.
You have no more a right to force your choices on others as ninboox has a right to force you to conform to his "Trek."
Make it a toggle so that these squabbles can end and we can go back to playing games and stuff.

Oohhh, better yet, one of my characters actually is a privateer. That's the way I RP 'em. Sorry 2 bust your bubble.
You know, I figure that it's a war so these kinds of things would happen.
I agree. We should be able to turn off other players visuals on our own computers. It's a major immersion killer for some to see the plethora of strange parts on all the ships. The body armor was bad enough at launch. Now we all look like scavenging junk dealers that throw any old modification we find on our ships. Now I realize the borg parts are technically canon, as Voyager recieved borg mods in one episode if I remember correctly, but still, that was just one ship, and it was only temporary. We don't need every ship in space flying around looking like that.
Customization is a good thing, to an extent, but I think it's been taken a bit too far.

While I understand your argument and where it is coming from, I guess my issues are a little broader reaching. I don't like the intolerance in this game or anywhere to be honest. I don't believe there should be an intolerance button/option anywhere. I believe everyone should accept others individuality and tastes. It may not be what you like or what fits into your definition of what should be, but that doesn't make it any less relevant or unnecessary.
One of the biggest things I liked about star trek growing up was its tolerance of everybody. Shouldn't that be something we are trying to foster as well. Shouldn't we say, star trek was about tolerance and part of being tolerant is letting people express themselves however they see fit. Because of this I say no to the toggle. I say no to intolerance. I believe people need to get over their conceptions of what and how this game should be to them, and start thinking of the bigger picture and how we can open this game up to everybody.

People have a right to express themselves and also to hear.
However, this is just a game and allowing a toggle isn't going to bruise any potatoes.
Why don't the DEVs just make an effort to come up with components that make the Federation vessels look Fed-special in a 30-years-later sort of way? I know they're all very creative people...sometimes that creativity just needs to be encouraged to transcend accepted boundaries.
I don't know why people keep ignoring this much more constructive suggestion.
Though, personally, I think the Aegis equipment is much closer to that goal already than the other two, I'd also like there to be future variants to look less tremendously contrary than the others.
I make my ship and characters look how I want everyone else to see me. I want to be different. And you should not have a choice in how I present myself. Turning off these things so you don't see them takes away from my individuality. You are right, we are not the collective, so why should we all look the same and conform to YOUR point of view.
We have people running around in this game, Vice Admirals in Starfleet, who wear miniskit-and-midriff uniforms that are a century old from another dimension.
It's not my point of view that really matters in this argument. It is the point of view of Star Trek. It's great big at the top of the screen, see it up there?
All of this borg junk all over everybody's ships is just as big of an eyesore as if they'd all been painted blue and pink and had great big clown noses on the foreward hull. It's ridiculous.
I mean, what's going on? Is the Federation three-fourths assimilated now? Shouldn't there be terror and panic in ESD? There's Borg tech everywhere! This is the stuff that is supposed to be so dangerous the Federation was willing to commit mass genocide to be rid of it!
The uniforms are just as much of a stretch. The way these things work, or so I understand, is that Starfleet has what is known as a Uniform Standard. All officers and crew members are supposed to conform to it. "Hey, guys, we have new uniforms. Put 'em on, toss the old ones in the replicator."
So, there you have it. My problem with your viewpoint, the one that says "I want to be different," is that in this game you are supposed to be working for an organization that would respond with the words, "Too bad."
People have a right to express themselves and also to hear.
However, this is just a game and allowing a toggle isn't going to bruise any potatoes.
True, but where does it stop. People don't like the ship customizations so turn them off. Next people don't like TOS or TMP era ships, so turn them off. After that cryptic adds a telaxian species "oh they don't' belong int he alpha quadrant. Nelix never left himself" turn it off. "THE LINE MUST BE DRAWN HEERE. THIS FAR NO FARTHER!!!"
I don't know why people keep ignoring this much more constructive suggestion.

Its because people tend only to hear what they want to hear. The first guy saw it as a "censorship" argument and everyone else participated on that level. Happens all the time... I like the idea of the Aegis gear but I wish it didn't look quite so Tron-like. I want to see something that improves the technology in a Fed way, sort of like the ablative armor modifications on the Voyager in "Endgame".
Don't be silly. I transcended accepted boundaries just posting that statement...any one else would have said "think outside the box".
Right, so you can't think outside the box in a way that says that in a time of war the Federation would use whatever military means necessary to assure that it wins the war, including and up to using Borg Technology, romulan technology and so on.
We have people running around in this game, Vice Admirals in Starfleet, who wear miniskit-and-midriff uniforms that are a century old from another dimension.
You, sir, just made my day.
You must also realize this is Star Trek and... would you like to be the Admiral that got all the reports from the Enterprise' missions? From Voyager's missions? The Defiant's combat log? I bet them Admirals are crazy by now.

Couldn't the reverse be true on your side? You hear what you want to hear. You hear that you're right and everyone else is wrong. You somehow perceive that you opinion of how the rest of the game should look should over-ride every other person paying their 15 a month or more.
Right, so you can't think outside the box in a way that says that in a time of war the Federation would use whatever military means necessary to assure that it wins the war, including and up to using Borg Technology, romulan technology and so on.
I get the feeling that the Federation would reverse engineer any technology they found useful and then make their own version that had a uniform design to it, instead of just strapping the part on a ship.

unless you're watching Voyager - which is itself a point of contention for some.

Can you hear me now? Good...
Yup, and I mainly stay in the neutral zone, plus, I'm a borderline Mercenary. My ship's gotta look MEAN!

you mean we have an option to go out of the neutral zone before level 43 ?
At level 6, yes, you do.

so if a kdf got it what would happen, 2 sides to this game u know, 2 sides. you want them to make one version for fed one version for kdf........ what
