Cryptic will
1) not respond to these threads and get the people who want to have the 'solid kdf experience' upset.
2) respond with an "I understand" or "It is coming soon" which will get the people who want to have the 'solid kdf experience' upset, but at a later time, or
3) throw us a bone and communicate something to us.
If the answer isn't 3, these threads will keep on coming.
The answer will be a mix of 1 and 2.
Why? Because "we don't have anything to say at this time" or "plans haven't been finalized".
It is impossible to believe that not a single person knows what is going on in cryptic. They are low on resources so usually in IT shops that have little resources it should be clear (especially since last week they had the yearly budget meeting).
If they promised for the past year a 'solid kdf experience' was that just 'hope' or what?
a healthy Klingon faction is vital to the game, period.
A healthy Klingon faction is also vital to Cryptic Studios if they ever want to retain any kind of credibility, and if they ever want any potential customers to ever believe anything they say.
Sure it's the internet and sure people can always scream, "They're liars!!!!111" But when you ask those people for proof suddenly they're nowhere to be found. There are at least some of us out here who aren't onlies and who only believe claims on the internet when they're backed up with proof.
Right now we already have that proof. We have videos and posts by multiple Cryptic employees saying that the Klingon faction will be improved upon. (All downloaded and/or screenshotted. So it doesn't matter if they want to delete it.) And now if it isn't done that proof will always be there whenever we choose to question the veracity of any statement by any Cryptic employee.

Amen to that brother!!:)
As will be a healthy Romulan faction and and all others added to the game. It makes for a better whole. Only the odd fedfan seems to think the sun shines only upon them and are permitted to bask in its warmth.
the positive to them being reskined to work as kdf missions would be the content provided to new players to the kdf, people leveling kdf and create a new interest in people playing and leveling kdf chars
So, are you really arguing that you would rather just have Cryptic do a bare bones reskin (change the dialogue text and quest-givers) to Fed content already in the game than do substantial reworkings of those plots for the KDF and/or generate new KDF content?
Really?
I'd much rather have actual new content for the KDF, or at the very least, content that they've spent some time re-adapting to the KDF outlook and lore.

The whole is greater than the sum of its parts, there are those that only see their part, before the discussion even starts. Too bad for them the day the unsupported pieces falls apart.

Exactly. STO has the potential to rival even EVE in its scope if it can steer clear of having itself white-washed by user bias.
I'd much rather have actual new content for the KDF, or at the very least, content that they've spent some time re-adapting to the KDF outlook and lore.
I'm pretty sure, the poster you quoted meant what you said in this last line when they said re-skin the Federation missions for the KDF. If you think about it, changing the dialog boxes alone, to fit what you'd expect from the KDF, would alter the story to the Klingon perspective.
As I've said since beta, there are quite a few Federation missions, especially those involving Klingons, that would be great to play on the Klingon side from their perspective. Such as a Federation character is told to go take out some satellite relays in system xyz. The Klingon character would be told to defend those satellites against the federation's incursion. This should be a faster to do that creating the content from scratch, because they would be reusing the same map and static emplacements. The only things that would change are 1) NPC dialog boxes/mission text/objectives, 2) start/turn-in location/NPC, 3) NPCs in the mission and their pathing, and of course 4) faction of the mission. Of those changes, the one that would likely take the longest would be changing the NPCs and their patching, primarily because of the pathing itself.
So, are you really arguing that you would rather just have Cryptic do a bare bones reskin (change the dialogue text and quest-givers) to Fed content already in the game than do substantial reworkings of those plots for the KDF and/or generate new KDF content?

one certain missions yes i am because like the mission that was named with the feds pushing klingons out of fed space at low level klingon rank that would also be relevent to the kdf as showing that the kdf are infact in a war.
to the ghost ship mission there is not a great deal to reskin, if im remembering the mission correctly its one start point and one npc costume as in the person who you take with you who in the end turns into an undine.
it would only be the same as the undine quests at top end. im not talking just about the stuff we want for top end missioning and we would need kdf specific mission that the federation havnt got and cannot do as there lore isnt part of that type of story. so what im on about is certain missions that have feds going against KDF main faction npcs and neutral faction missions like against the romulans and trueway that are also relevant to the kdf as much as they are to the feds.
There are some Fed missions which could be converted for Klingon use, but more content based around the Klingons unique culture would be nice.
I suggested as such as well. I would love to see the Klingon perspective of many of those missions we do in Regulus and Pi Canis. For instance you working for B'vat and leading the attack on Regulus or being the one to travel back in time to encounter young B'vat and lead up to the capture of Miral Paris. So much potential.
And Cryptic is doing a good job with the Culture, just need some more mechanics that can decide the fate of the Empire like those siding with House of Martok or the House of Duras (outside of PvP) and do missions for them.
This is what I love about Cryptic, they are very good at lip service. Sadly lip service does nothing to bring back all the people who got tired of being told the same line over and over and over again. Nor does it paint them in a good light in the gaming community. However, I will give them props that their next project isn't a MMO. Seems, they are aware that they have failed too many times in that area and I bet they are still blaming WoW for all their woes.
I am getting increasingly annoyed at claiming that Cryptic just does lip services.
8 New Missions is NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES lip service. These new Weeklies are treated like the most awesome thing to happen to the game (and they are IMO, at least for PvE). And you know - they are only 5 episodes long. 5. Content that is released over the course of a 1 month and played by thousands of players in an hour or less. And it seems Cryptic is capable of delivering about what - 4 of these weeklies per year, going by their current pace (plus other stuff of course, but just "mission"-wise).
8 new missions is not much for a player to play through, but it's a lot for Cryptic.
But it's not like it's Cryptic's fault. How long did players wait for Starcraft II, and how long was it in development? How long did it take them to play trhough it? Hardcore players probably needed a weekend or so. That's it.
Just get your damn expectations right. In a year or so, I predict maybe about 50 missions or so more overall, and probably only 10-20 of them faction-specific. And I might be optimistic. And some of these missions might be repeatable, some of it might be "Duty Officer Assignment" type missions, some might be new Diplomacy (or a KDF equivalent of it) missions. Some will be Weeklies. One will be a KDF Tutorial, probably.

Ok, I worry about the math skills in the US. They would seem to be at LEAST 5/5 this year. Only 3 months in, I would say 4 of five are hits...
I hate to say it, but the people who are disagreing with this topic are really the ones keeping it alive... not my intentions, but effective none the less.
Soooo... anyone have any thoughts on what I suggested earlier, with separate Fed and Klink End Game content? Good idea? Bad idea?

Yes and no. Yes there should be some separate content, at all levels, not just end game. No, all the end game content should not be separate, some of it should be combined and even joint operations.
Others have asked for a Diplomacy system similar to what the Federation characters have, with some differences of course. This is fine as there were several Klingon ambassadors in the shows, movies and books. However, I think the diplomacy system could also be adapted to a Klingon political system where your character's house can rise through the ranks and join the High Council. In this case your character would gain Political Experience Points (PEP) by doing missions for the leaders of the many houses currently on the High Council in order to gain their support for your bid to join the High Council. Some of the rewards for earning a higher political rank could be similar to the rewards from the Diplomacy ranks, such as the increase warp speeds skill, just with a different name. Others could be a discount at different types of in game stores. Upon achieving the highest rank, there could be a small ceremony on Qo'nos where the Chancellor and other High Council members congratulate you on your victory and award you your High Council position. You character can then wear the title "High Councilor", "High Council Member" or something like that. I feel this would really help us feel like we're playing a Klingon.
The missions for the High Council leaders could really be anything such as:
Gathering intelligence on their political enemies by finding their secret base in one of the Exploration sectors and accessing their computers. Ground missions with consoles and Klingon enemies.
Striking at a rival's production or agricultural facility in Exploration sectors.
Defending their interests from an attack by an enemy of the Empire at their facility in the Exploration sectors.
All of which are mission types already in the Exploration sectors. The first one, only on the Federation side atm, but could be easily adapted to this purpose. The main change would be the addition of the Political Experience points gained from these missions.
Exactly. STO has the potential to rival even EVE in its scope if it can steer clear of having itself white-washed by user bias.
thats exactly why I bought a lifetime sub, I hope by this time next year territory control and fleet starbases are a reality and the game has a real player driven pvp/pve endgame
Our asking for more is no less valid or to be expected than the feds asking for more in the many threads that exist and have been in existance since release.
If you do not like that some KDF fans ask and continue to ask, and yet again still ask for more- then do not enter the thread.
Much like some of us never enter into threads where the fedfans ask for more ships, more options, more hair tech, etc.
I'll take a break when all of those fans take a break, and not before.

So basically, the rush to release this game is justification for an entire faction to have almost no content? Klingon players also getting scraps of content compared to Fed players is also justified because "it's a lot for Cyrptic" ok...makes perfect sense.

Soooo... anyone have any thoughts on what I suggested earlier, with separate Fed and Klink End Game content? Good idea? Bad idea?
Bad idea imo, with the disparity in population as it stands now, separate endgame would likely do little if anything to Klingon players experience. What really should happen is that there should be a viable, non grind, PVE progression for Klingon players to enjoy for leveling, and then joint Fed/Klingon endgame. Most if not all current endgame content is stories that impact the entire quadrant, there is no good reason the two sides shouldn't be cooperating towards these mutual goals.

Well, seeing as if Cryptic hadn't made their release date, they would've lost the Trek license and all there work would have gone down the tubes...yeah, that does sort of justify them releasing what they had, even though the Klingons were just monster play at the time.
And if you exclude the C-Store, the KDF has received much more exclusive content since release than the Feds have. In fact, other than things in the C-Store and First Contact Missions, I don't think the Feds have gotten any real content since release? Or was the Gamma Orionis stuff released shortly after the game was?

I know the STF's were released later. And as someone who is playing both sides currently, I don't get people that say there is NO Klingon content. There is a decent amount... and a lot of it is combat based... which is what the Klingons are all about anyway.
Besides, the klingon ships are already better then the federatiions... so it makes up for it

Pure speculation. We have no idea who set the release date, whether it was the bosses at Cryptic, Atari, or CBS. Furthermore, there was some talk way back at launch about Cryptic getting some kind of bonus for launching by a certain day. So its possible that the reason they were so eager to launch by the date they did was not because they had to, but because they wanted to get said bonus. But either way, its pure speculation and not the basis for an argument.

very true, we have no idea who was in the rolling for taking over the IP of star trek, lets say 3 companys come forward and say we can do this game get it running by 2009 and have a running game, another company says we can do this and have it running by 2010 and another company says we can do this by 2011. the company that said 2009 said we can do this because we have a game engine that can run this game trust us we can make it work look here is a example, 2nd company says we have part of a game engine and alot of ideas on how todo it. 3rd company says we can do this but we will have to build a game engine to run this.

No, not speculation, this was stated way way back. Perpetual bought the license with an expiration date. When Cryptic acquired it, it maintained the date. Go back a year on these forums, it was discussed frequently. Complete with the haters saying that 'if Cryptic couldn't make the game right in that amount of time, they should've let the license lapse and somebody else do it properly'.
You were here, Nagus. I don't know why you don't remember.

I dont remember because I never read any official source that said who determined the release date. Yes, I read plenty of baseless speculation, but no official source. If you have one, then post a link. This is the internet, and there are plenty of search engines, so it shouldnt be hard to find. But the burdon of proof falls on the person making a claim, not the person questioning it.
Back to the how some of the fed missions can be reworked to kdf, lets look at this from a new angle, how many fed missions have kdf ships come in to help or that a kdf person in a quest says yes the motives are right and have to be stopped ?
Comments
