This would be s much more bearable if the tractors were a stacking SNARE, not a root. And not % based, either, but a solid number, an actual engine energy debuff. Say -50 engine power per beam?
This way, those who retune for speed can actually get out of there, combat engines might play a better role, and so on? Kill one beam, and its -150, kill 2 and -100 and you're likely able to move away by now.
Then just change all the speed buffs and so on to engine buffs. Remember - just because you are only displaying 125 as a maximum, does not mean you only have 125, it only means you can only use 125 at a time. So, lets say AP:O would add 100 engine power, then. You might start at 50, wind up with an effective engine of 125, actual 150. Get hit with 4 tractor mines, and land at an effective engine power of 0, actual -50. Thruster engines come in handy there, but retune for engine to 100, adding the +100 from AP:O, and you land at an engine power of 50, able to maneuver and speed out of range somewhat easily. If however a 5th tractor applies at this point, you will be brought to a dead stop again at an actual and effective engine power of 0.
That is why those of you that are saying that we're just crying don't get it - PvE is a completely different game than PvP. (Not you yourself, since you're understanding what we're saying. That's directed at others.)
But honestly - If there are a lot of veteran PvPers saying that these are a bad idea, then there must be something wrong with them. We don't all "cry" over one thing, we're usually fighting amongst each other.
No if there alot of Vet PvP crying about it means they just to lazy to think of a new tatic they got there BOs setup the way they are and don;t want to cahnge it.....
What people are not getting is, these things when used properly can be a great help (If used porperly). So stop the whinning
I wish we had a seperate pvp server, with no q's & a limit of maybe 10 deployables of any type at a time per ship, I'd never have to see any of these "Elite" PVEers again. I PVE'd before i learned to play this game. When I do space PVE, I get in range of the "enemy"I set weapons to autofire, set a dice on my a key, put a book on top of that, hit the spacebar & go make a sandwich, or have a smoke. When i come back I've won 90% of the time. True story. (except for STF's, of course) PVE takes no skill once you've learned how to build your ship correctly. None. Fighting a person makes you think, change your tactics on the fly, It gets your blood pumping.
Anyway, it used to. Now, i get lagged out so bad by the spam i can't even use the butttons on my UI. & I play with all graphics setting to the minimum. The game looks horrible, & plays even worse now.
i have an idea, make mines susceptible to scramble sensors. That'll cut down on their use.

LOL at used properly. Cuz spamming mines has to be done the right way right?
You should start a thread on the correct use of mines.I bet it would be full of useful info.

Too lazy to think of a new tactic? I'm sorry, but that's flat out wrong. Please see the post I made on the previous page (link below) on the changes that I myself made. Others have tried far more changes.
Veteran PvPers are, no offense intended to anyone, the ones that would know we're talking about. We've spent the most time in PvP, trying out different builds, different tactics, and different ships. To suggest that we're just crying and too lazy to think of a new build/tactic is kind of insulting, actually.
ITT: nobody carebears who only PvP three times a day for emblems, pretending they know something about PvP, while actual PvPers with experience and skill smash their head against the wall.
What makes you think that you know how much I pvp or my XP level. That is rather elitist of you. You know nothing about me. You know what else, if your so called actual PVPER's actually had any skill, they would be in game figuring out a tactic that work's agaisnt these things instead of on the forums *****ing and whining about them.
The so called actual Pvpers that you mention, that I've run across in game have no skill, have figured out a way to exploit the mechanics of the game, get stuck in that exploit rut, then when something new comes along that takes away their so called skill(Exploit). They whine and cry to Mommy. The mines are probably here to stay, I dont care one way or the other, so you better get used to them or rage quit; doesn't matter to me. I found a counter that works, I suggest you do to.:)
Anyway, back to the topic at hand, here is a quick snapshot showing only a few of the ships in the arena, the rest of the battle is raging behind the camera as is more of the space trash. Most of what you can see is friendly (as the enemy Tractor mines are invisible).

And thank you for that image, that goes a long way.

Its only a shame I couldnt get a better picture, it sadly only shows a small portion of what was out there.
It was a intense battle so I didnt really have time to take snaps.
Exactly, I wonder how many matches some of the people on here complaining have actually played since the release of the mines? about 3 dozen
Have they even tried new tactics? yes
Have they tried to change thier build a bit? yes.
Have they tried varying thier tactics at all? yes.
Have they tried anything other than complaining? yes.
So you have to change the way you approach engagements now, you have to be much more aware of your surroundings and now "gasp" you actually will have to help out your team mates instead of going for the lone-wolf "Alpha-Strike-Insta-Pop" maneuver. This explains that you know nothing of non-PuG, (i.e. premade) matches and miss our point
Here's an idea, Try something new (done),
I did and you know what, the mines don't bother me anymore(no, I'm a nOOb and I haven't played since beta either, give us some credit that we actually do have an idea about which we speak.).
Quit whining (we're not), Improvise (we can) , Adapt (we do) and Overcome (we always will).
I'm trying to work with you here, but you seem to be missing the point we are making. How about looking at is this way, one of the main problems with the pet spam was the induced lag and then there was the clutter. The nerfed the carrier pet numbers and things got a little better as a result. They added scorpion fighters more spam ... clutter ... lag. Now these mines ... spam .. .clutter ... lag. Add it all up and what do you have SPAM ... CLUTTER ... LAG. If you doubt this read below.
...
i just came out of kerrat and my god it was a screen of squares saying tractor mine, sigh im a fed not a klingon and i enjoy having them alpha strike me when im damaged its a challange to simply survive as long as i can. these mines dont add anything at all, they dont help except to enrage the person who just re-spawned into a wall of mines i wont use them.
... :
Now try my math in a Ker'rat or a 24- to 32-man CnH. Does that make it any clearer? We're no longer talking about 115 mines we're talking 575 mines. Do you see what I'm getting at.

Again, you've never come across any of the pre-made teams have you. You've only experienced PuG matches. We (OPvP) do not exploit. Next time you are around try chiming in on the OPvP channel and request a match with one of the premade teams (heck, you could probably just get a bunch of people from premades) and you'll probably get facerolled. I'm not saying that you won't score a kill or two, but the match will end something like 15-1.
Cheers.

Thanks. Hopefully, a picture is worth a thousand words and they can see that this pic just barely scratches the surface.
I was looking at My Kar-Fi, & i have an awesome build in mind for my SCI toon, Fighters, scorpion launcher, 2 Chronitron minelaunchers, 1 CTB minelauncher, a Breen cluster torpedo, PF, GW3, TR, SS2, 2 dispersal patterns, & keybind Fireworks to my spacebar. I figure a team of 5 of these things should make PVP much more enjoyable for everyone involved.
Thanks, it made me chuckle when I though of it, but its sad that the joke works so well, and that, for me at least, the most of enjoyable aspect of the game (PvP) has become a joke.
I've done about 20 or so FvK Arena Matches and about 12 Cap n Hold Matches, the use of these mines is profuse on both sides. It really has become PvEvP.
Let me be clear, I am still able to win matches, overcoming these new mines is not the issue, although it is annoying in the extreeme to held imobile all the time, (watch Engine Battery Sales go through the roof!). Its just that the matches are less fun.
The game map has become x100 more cluttered, there is now an unbeliveable amount of garbage floating about, this is a kick in the face to those Carrier players out there who are still smarting from being nerfed for pet spam!
There is a test server, hell there are 2 (redshirt) why the hell where these items not tested before release. its plain to see that they are unwanted!
If they must remain then at least, introduce a Tractor Beam immunity timer for those recently snared, reduce the amount of time these mines linger for, and for the love of god, make it so they cannot detect cloaked ships.
Im in favour of their removal if im honest, or even them being limited to PvE but I can imagine that isnt possible.

Dont forget the fleet support skill for those who managed to overcome the lag, managed to wade through all the targets and lock on to you and somehow manage to get your hull down to 50%.

wouldn't it be awesome to call in A VoQov?
LOLZ all around, fo sho
i have been tracking this for a bit now, and after playing a bit, i hold to my original statement. having mines in pvp is not the problem. it is a valid strategic application. the problem is and always has been
1. their random spawning nature
2. their sheer numbers
the tractor beam application simply highlights and surfaces a fundamental restriction (that invalidates the intended use for this weapon type) that has always been there.
mines are supposed to be strategic weapons, placed one-by-one and never to be used as AOE/mass area weapons (as primary intent). in some cases, perhaps, high damage weapons, but not coverage weapons. simple solution. mines in this game more closely resemble a burst of torpedoes. one-by-one placement (with a timer) and being able to actually place them where you want, instead of spawn them in mass would not only solve this issue, but it would make them a much more viable surprise/strategic weapon, as mines are, and were always meant to be.
if a bunch of players can combine their resources and strategies, each placing one mine at a time, creating a minefield.. simply by working together, that would be a MUCH more acceptable scenario.
additionally, this is also an issue with ground mines as well:eek:
I also hold my statement after Playing PVP games the last few hours, now till one point.
There are to many non Player objekts in the map, and the mass of mines is realy horrible.
I playes my Klingon and my Fed Char and i must say, pvp is now "Impressing" nice to watch seeing each and everyone using the same Tactic ,spamming the new Weapon, i think this will least a few Days and then it will end...
Hopefully.
Btw, @ Brodie0854

1 Fleet Escort, 1 MVAM Prometheus.
Fleet Escort specced with CRF/THY and tricobalts for butt-kicking.
Prometheus specced for scatter type weapons abilities + MVAM + shield penetrating sci skill(s)
1 Nebula for cloak detection, specced for healing the team, and fire at will/torp spread
1 Armored intrepid specced for rifts grav wells etc (general pest control) rest of its slots filled with healing
1 Excelsior for good measure, all around hunter/killer for that last push.
All using Devidian phase and scorpions, all but the fleet escort have tractor mines, and the Excelsior has transphasic cluster torp.
Both sci ships constantly hit the carriers with target aux subsystems or shields and focus on healing.
The rest of their fire is dedicated to pest control.
The Prommie does pest control until not needed, the Excelsior and Fleet Escort knock out the carriers with the prommie joining in when necessary.
Thats my ideal answer to your proposed little strategy.

The mines technically don't **** me off that much, even though they are annoying. What really makes me annoyed is players screaming LERN 2 COOPERATE. In a PuG? Hell would freeze over before someone would throw me a buff/heal. I don't want to do premades, I don't want to be in elitist OMGWTFBBQ uberpvp guild and from my own guild noone really does pvp apart from the emblem grind.

Yeah, i guess thats kinda what i was saying, my spam build/group takes about zero effort to fly, & a serious effort to beat. & even then the fight isn't any FUN.
It's supposed to be FUN, right?
Isn't it?
& I prefer to PUG, Cuz it's like a box of chocolates. & I do them all day long.
Flying in a premade is boring, unless you fly against another premade
& when you do fight a premade team, what do you fight? Spam.
What makes you think that you know how much I pvp or my XP level. That is rather elitist of you. You know nothing about me.
You're right. Hit me up in-game, @Middlemore, we'll do a challenge match, some friendly 1v1, and I can find out if you actually have a clue what you're talking about when it comes to PvP. :-)

We don't actually need a seperate server for that. At least not in the WoW/DDO type server way.
I noticed that in the Colisum, my Tactical Captain was not abl to beam in a Security team. That made sense story-wise, but more impotantly, it means Cryptic now has the tech to block certian powrs.
Just block Tractor Beam Mines and Scorpion Fighters in PvP maps and have people all the fun they can get out of them in PvE.
Comments
It is the organized PvP channel in game.
