The quick and easy "strategie" is to cry "nerf" to get the mines nerfed into oblivion to use your old fasioned tactic (again).

Well since that strategy is old, that means it works. I'll take my chances with time-proven methods then :D

wow people actually like these stupid things?

people can rationalize them all they want 'sides adapt in war, new strategies develop"

but this ignores the fact that a single item makes pvp gameplay pretty awful and just plain annoying,

the bottom line is it makes the whole experience less fun, which should be considered over these rational that have nothing to do with gameplay, balance, or the pvp experience as a whole

Eh, they're just as easy as normal tractors to break, if not easier, if you take time to shoot them. They only TRIBBLE you over if you're relying on a precisely timed escape attempt in an escort. So a hit-and-run player just has to think a little more about defenses to this. It also makes science ship sensors a more valuable part of a team.

Do regular mines attack other mines? Can you fight spam with spam?

I predicted this the first time I saw a Tractor Mine. I don't understand how the devs can think being constantly immobilized, held, rooted, stunned or otherwise incapacitated is FUN. Players LOVE being helpless, you know.

    /sarcasm

It's probably from Champions where Heroes root villians all the time and vice versa with super powers.

Wish they would actually watch all the Trek episodes.

Should be mandantory for working on STO.

I'm just glad that mines have a use beyond just adding damage to random targets around you. Real naval mines disable and discourage movement through the field, and the tractor mines just take this more literally.

Yep, but using other tactics than hit-and-run seems to ruin the game for some people and makes the game and "pvp experience" "less fun".

    /sarcasm
And it proves that the old tactic of mewling and crying will still work.

I understand where, well, all of you are coming from. There are two sides of this issue, clearly. On the same hand there are two types of gameplay. PVP & PVE. It is indeed fustrating to be locked into position, because PH does not last forever. And, how that effects gameplay is worth merit. however, consider this. They just came out today. Many players will move onto something else givin a few days. How many people use that consule that came with the devidean (sp) missions? So,

1.) give it some time, the use will probably die off some.
2.) adapt gameplay as was stated above
3.) if, in the future the developers decide to nerf these...don't. (clearly addressed to the devs only) Instead make them unusable in PVP, because they are awsome on PVE.

Look, tractor mines aren't going to break pvp, they're just going to make it more interesting. On the other hand though, if you guys want them out of your pvp instances, why not request that Cryptic make pvp instances customizable to this effect?

You could just click a box that will make sure that no cloaked mines work and if you don't want to pvp with people who used cloaked mines, you don't have to.

So Dev's, what do you think? Could this be in the future for PVP where we can customize the matches to avoid over-doing it for some people with things like cloaked mines/

The tractor mines were just a bad idea all around.

Holds are extremely annoying, and should be phased out, not added to the game.

I do not PvP at all, so that is not an issue for me, but the concept of adding more annoying holds to the game is inherently flawed.

Both the tractor mines and the instant death thaleron mines were extremely poor design decisions.

I'm not really sure how these things ever made it past someone's bad idea in the design phase, but when brainstorming in the future, please remember instant death and constant holds are not fun.

Fun Uses of Tractor Beam Mines:
    • To prevent speed builds on cruisers
    • As a counter to other mine spam (can someone confirm it'll work on other mines?)

Yeah, being caught in a player's tractor beam is a whole lot more annoying than tractor mines, and nobody's yelling to nerf it. People know that tractor beams are an option to defend against. I just think it's easy for some people to blame an automated weapon, since they weren't 'owned' by another player's skillful timing of their shipboard beam. I mean, if the entire other team is decked out with TB, you won't be able to keep hull polarized all of the time either, but nobody whines about that.

That's true and for every person that shoots off tractor mines, that's one less weapon being shot at your shields/hull.

Surely one person in the entire studio should have seen what a massively bad idea this was, no?

    No?

    Spam and TB
    Spam and more spam
    LMAO and spam
    Spam and LMAO

They are a neat reward and I like them, they are cool

But I can't say I'm surprised some use them in pvp

Can you cycle them with the Breen torpedo?

I really dont see much issue with the mines there are tons of ways to get rid of them and or negate them altogether. Sci officers have tons of outs as with tact and escorts. Every class and ship type has more than enough outs to these so that there not realy an issue. Are they bothersome yes are they a game breaker or a real issue no.

The entire PvP community is united, for the first time ever I think, against these stupid, stupid mines.

the only people defending them are the ones who don't PvP, at least not seriously.

Cloaked tractor beam mines are a compilation of everything we've been complaining about (minus Scramble).

Worst idea ever. Worse than the nerf to Gravity Well, worse than Biothermal Dampeners, worse than Orbital Strike. And that's saying something.

fighting premades built around this mine mixed with chronitrons will be awesome. make it a 5 man sci team with scramble sensors, PF & scorpions, maybe a couple of MVAM's
    It'll be a hoot
premades wont even have to have 1 bit of skill to win anymore.
warping into kerrat is awesome as well. thanks guys, your spawn camping/minespamming skills leave me in awe. Maybe someday if i practice REALLY REALLY hard, I could be 1/2 as good as you. autofire + mines is something I'm probably going to have to practice for months to be able to do.
player skill has been just about completely removed from the equation. I guess thats game balance for you.
& yeah, i know, i could do it to, or set up my ship to fight spam. I choose to fight players, not spam. if i can't fight players, I'm just going to take my ball & go home.
whats next? Scramble sensor mines? thats what we really need.
