No please. Nope, nada, no way, no how, nuh-uh, nyet, nein.
Save'em for the factions when they come out.
/AGREED.
Putting these ships in the C-Store creates some issues. Are you (cryptic) by selling these ships says "Sorry no Romulan or Carassian faction in the future" or are we going to be paying for ships that would otherwise be free in the future? No thank you, I would rather wait until the factions are released or it is officially confirmed there will never be any other factions.
If they are going to add Romulan & Cardassian ships to the C store it should
be only for that Playable factions not in the Federation.
but as for the Klingons they have used some Romulan
ship like the BOP so I can see TOS looking Romulan ships
in the Klingon Fleet but not TNG and newer.

The Klingons have a ship that has the same name as the Romulan one, but that's an entirely different thing from saying the have used the same ship.
We've never seen Klingons use Romulan ships.
The exact opposite is true, we've seen the Romulans use D7 in "The Enterprise Incident".
Why is it canon always gets invoked when ST itself constantly broke or revised its canon as writers saw fit. Either you allow for all things that have been labeled Star Trek, or you limit it EXCLUSIVELY to what you saw on TV or films and thats it. In the end what has the broader appeal(IE gives the best benefit to Cryptic/Atari) is going to win. Personally, I don't think the asset time should be devoted to this right now, when there are other things that can be done, such as increasing the number of Klingon ship choices, a battlecry I haven't heard lately.
I fail to see the logic behind this idea, although admittedly the Vulcan mindset escapes me. Since the concept of factions have been well established, sticking to those guns would be preferable to design philosophical anarchy.
If you release "possible future faction" ships now, where then will be the mystique, the interest, the draw to even bother rolling one of the other factions?
AFAIK, Rommies and Cardies don't have a lot of choices in ships as it is...and you want them available before the faction is even playable? What then is left for the faction when they get rolled out?
The logic used to add future faction ships could also be applied to adding ALL player controllable ships into the C-Store for purchase and use by ANY faction captain. Talk a bout a nightmare for determining just who's flying what on which map in which zone.
There are times when stereotyping is actually a "good" thing...like in a fire fight when you know everything with a saucer on it is Feds, most everything green is Klink, brown is Cardie, etc.
To me, the only faction's ship addition that would make sense in current game timeline would be Deferi, but who would want their ships? (ok the shuttle may be interesting, but still)
Seriously guys. forget canon, but ask yourselves this. Short of a Special Ops mission, would either the Klingon Defense Force Commanders or Starfleet Commanders allow their Captains to to fly in ships from another faction? no they wouldn't. Now granted, the game doesn't allow for friendly fire (minus those Orion Vixen types), but in a real world type scneario, the commanders of both fleets are not going to allow thei CO's to run amok throughout the galaxy in opposing ships, just becuase their CO's want to do something different. It's about fleet cohesion, knowing that all the familiar ships you see "have your back", and all the unfamiliar ships have to be dealt with. You don't want to be going around, trying to figure out Which BoP's are friendlies, and which you have to fight. Plus once you take your captured Galor class back to ESD, do you think Space Dock has parts for that thing laying around? or the specs to program their parts replicator? I doubt it. Think on that please!
Another game that did something like this years ago was Navy Field, where each of the 4 nations originally in (United States, Great Britain, Germany, Japan) had a "Premium Ship" that you can buy that is not gamebreaking but that you can stick with a bit longer than other vessels you have during leveling.
Anyway the US Premium ship is the Sevastopol, GB ship is the Dunkerque, the German one is the Andrea Doria and the Japanese is the B65.
With the exception of the B65, all of them belong to other nations.
For the last years this was no problem, at least until they announced exactly those nations as new playable factions in the game: Russia, France and Italy.
Until now, only the French are out.
They were given the Dunkerque's sister ship, which was modified to look different and given different stats.
The Dunkerque is also the French Premium ship and identical to the British version.
Something similar will happen to the other sides as well.
So the lines between the factions blurr and it's not helping the game.
It's a horrible mess and I don't want to see something similar happen to STO.
So even when you say throw canon overboard, I've seen what happens when a company does something like this and I can only say DON'T.
My counterproposal would be "Rent a Ferengi Marauder" , at least there is little chance the Ferengi will ever become a full faction.
Making the Romulan and Cardasian ships available to Fed and Klingon players is a terrible idea.
No mater what "in story" justification you spin for how it could happen, you're still not addressing the simple problem: Those ships belong to planned future factions.
It is simply bad design to make the most iconic ship of one faction available to another faction.

This is really the gist of it. And dee had a very good example of something like this.
I just dont see the need to have cross faction, cross species, or anything like that! Let's just leave faction ships as their ships! SO simple.
if there was never going to be a romulan or cardassian faction we could probably think of ways to get them added (cardassia joining the federation for example)
but as these factions are planned it just seems pointless to add their ships to the other factions.
do the romulan and cardassian then get to have fed and klingon ships in their roster?
this is just a really bad idea that does nothing for the game in the long run. it might be fun at first but after all the factions are added it just ends up looking a mess with no faction having any identity.
Suggestions keep getting dumber and dumber and now downright stupid.
Honestly, it seems to me that people want a circus and not a Star Trek game.
If Cryptic adopted half of these lame suggestions then STO would end up DEAD for certain.
Even the allmighty C-Store can compensate for this level of lunacy.
Circus? You see any clowns around here? *Eyes Q Dubiously*
Anyways!
Just to say it again, adding any factions ship to Feds or KDF only spells blockades for said faction ever growing into it's own. Considering Romulan was the #1 choice for a 3rd faction last poll, let's not kill such a bright future hm?

You mean those people running around in multicolored yellow/red/green/purple outfits with wierd heads are not clowns?
I've been playing STO since Closed Beta. My captain during Beta was Galan Vaurek, a Tal Shiar spy in the Federation. When the game went live, I recreated Galan. I have wanted to play a "real" Romulan since it was announced that STO was being released (back when Perpetual had it) mainly because I have loved the D'Deridex since I first saw it on TNG...
But.. I do not want to have Romulan ships available for Federation or Klingon use. Period. I LOVE the Romulans... and I LOVE their ships. But there is no good reason to give the ships to the other factions. Look, I'm just as impatient as the next guy, really, I am... But I'd hate them to give the ships out before we have the actual Romulan faction.
As an aside... Kirk and crew taking the Klingon BoP... The Klingons destroyed the Enterprise.. and during the fight on the Genesis planet, the Klingons were killed. As the planet self destructed, there was no other alternative. They HAD to take the Bop, or die. Each captain in STO has access to at least 8 ships... there is no reason to get a "captured" ship from an unreleased faction.
Now, all of that said.. I think as we move closer to launch for new Factions, I think it would be awesome if Cryptic created missions where you could use one of the faction ships... sort of a teaser to what awaits players with the launch of said new faction. Mission only tho.. Not for keep ships.
Saith, and Jolan'tru
edit:
Correction: Kirk destroyed the Enterprise with auto destruct.. I know that, but lost it somewhere I was typing the above... lol
If you dont like then idea...DONT BUY THEM. Why is it whenever someone suggests an idea the people who dont like it seem to think it would be FORCED on them? I guess some people have no self control.
This isn't an idea that just effects people who buy them.
For those looking forward to a Romulan or Cardassian faction it's essentially giving away half that faction's game (the half most people like) before they're even implemented.
Considering how loudly everyone argues when anything even remotely faction-specific goes to the "other side" I'm practically flabbergasted that this idea is drawing anything but pure, unadulterated derision.
Yep, I just said that. Since the factions arent going to be coming any time soon, add the in game Rom and Card ships to the C-store spread out over the various levels they would apply to. Call them "captured" ships if you want, and let both the Feds and Klingons use them.
Don't worry, both factions will get them when the Romulans join up with the KDF and the Remans side with the Federation.
The Klingons have a ship that has the same name as the Romulan one, but that's an entirely different thing from saying the have used the same ship.

Since Cardassians have their own military in STO (Cardassian Defense Forces) and they are trying to join the Federation, or are in the process of. Seeing a Galor class being player useable may be acceptable, but not much more than that. Definately no Romulan ships.

It is ownership that create issues, and attract Dragons to the hoard.

I have a lot more if you need.
If people so desperately want a cardassian ship they can just go buy the Galor Class holoemitter from the Dabo minigame.
