I'd be happy if they just used partial and selective transparency around bangs and edges (ala Cartian hair and the hair in EvE, which uses the same basic trick) and attacked long hair textures (bangs or otherwise) to cloth models like the Mirror Universe sash.

Real hair is not opaque. Real hair and bangs have thin spots or strands that can be modeled with transparent sections. Real hair also doesn't come in blocks but there is a subtle fade in where the hairline is.

Partial selective transparency would turn into black rectangles on beam-out but they already do and that's a separate issue to fix.

Hair as a physx object seems highly taxing.

They definitely need some kind of hair improvements. Some of the hairstyles look dowright terrible with the current hair tech. Others are better, like some of the ones they added after launch, but improving the tech is essential IMO.

I can't wait for hair and cloth tech! I'm not liking the fact that my Klingon is stuck with dreadlocks :(

Lol, yeah, Klingons could definitely use some more hair options.

I would be pretty content with having the kind of debris and effects STO used to have. 1:00

Looks exactly what we have now, unless you are talking about the touched up explosion at the end.

I'm talking about the Borg ships blowing into tiny pieces and the nacelle exploding off that Galaxy variant, which is something we do NOT have now.
Right now with exception of Borg cubes the only thing that happens at death is a fireball explosion with a few sparkles.
No hull debris, fragments or anything.

Having just this would make blowing stuff up in STO 10x more satisfying.

That was one awesome explosion, far better than the ones we have now. We need more fragments and debris flying off of exploding ships.

Yea, so, unless someone has actually played a build with that in it I'm going to go with special touch up done for a trailer theory.

I can accept that this isn't the top priority right now. I can accept some lesser version of "hair tech" that doesn't involve each strand of hair blowing in the wind. But the main thing I want is for the hair to no longer look like it's a plastic cap on top of the character's head. I want facial expressions to change as well, so that the character doesn't look like a doll from the neck up. I would like Caitians to have manes. To me, that's the main priority since in the character creator the characters look so much better than they do in game. I try not to look my characters or boffs in the eye in the game; they look fine at a distance or from the back so long as you ignore the plastic hair.

Yeah, the plastic barbie doll hair annoys me too. I can deal without free flowing hair, but the plastic hair has got to go, and the sooner the better.

Said trailer does represent the first bit of gameplay footage from Cryptic's STO.
The final explosion is definitely touched up, but the others are real.

Given how Borg Cubes used to explode i can't see why that would be so hard to believe.
No idea why they changed the Borg Cube debris to that awful 2 piece stuff though.
But thinking about it more i actually remember now that even some of the sphere's own debris still lingered on for a while in Ker'rat a long time ago.

In fact you can even see the remains of those effects still, those little strange fire trails that come out from the eplosion, which is what used to have 3D debris ahead of them.
