I believe the dev said that it's to make sure characters look like adults. The same is true for the male character's always present 5 o'clock shadow. Something to do with maintaining the ESRB rating, as the ESRB doesn't want teenage looking characters out there killing aliens and potentially being killed themselves.

As much as I'm always supportive of more character customization, messing with anything that can change the ESRB rating of game is baaaaad juju.

someone commented on the law suite. was settled and no changes where made. And at one time marvel planed to have cryptic make there online game for marvel comics. Some broker deal.

Rule on copy right law. IF you want to keep copy right. and something sold or marketed looks like it might infringe on your copy rights. You MUST file a lawsuit. That being said. and with the brokering of a contract for cryptic/ncsoft at that time to possibly create marvels online mmo. It is most likely the settlement wasp art of the brokerage deal.

Copy right lay on characters. is as follows in simplest terms. IF you make a ET and have it in your living room. Your okay. IF you put it in your car and drive around as it it's the "Original" ET. your up to a lawsuit.

A short human science officer with a lighting bolt over his eye named harry. with a first officer named Granger. Isn't a violation of copy right as example.

This is where it gets things go weird in copyright law. Your name is James Tobias Kirk in RL. Your parents fan of the show and happen to have last name Kirk. Legally your not violating copyright buy using your name in a book or story. As long as it's about you. Tricky part is when you add a story based on another liked name character in the same story environment. Example being star trek. But again this opens up another legal issue Vs real life story telling

Case example: Two people, one fictional one real. Both having the same life. Example both farmers living in south. Does the real Farmer keep copyright of his own life or does the fictional version of him supersede his own ownership of his story?
In a case that took place in England the owner of the RL name lost his personal copyright to his own life story. A later ruling then stipulated that because the first one was fictional. The a release with his name on a true story would not violate copyright. and that was the final on it.

Then there limited copyright exceptions. Such as science research and development. Lets say you make a engine that runs on 100 miles per gallon of gas. A researcher can use that information to develop a better engine and work on the system. But once it goes in market then it follows normal copyright rules and agreements. You can make cometary and even use it in a film or in explaining engine theory development idea or to provide information for handicap all with out violating copyright.

As far as the avatar characters. Do they violate copyright. there technically under the guise of limited exceptions. and if cryptic was sued over it. I see a good deal for them in making the avatar MMO.

Though I do not think marvel did a slapp suite on cryptic or on NCsoft. IT did seem close. And can have easily been a maneuver to take a threat of legal concordance to make or broker a preferred deal with NCsoft and or Cryptic on the creation of a mmo. and why the deal was made secrete on the settlement.

But that's an assumption on my part. all legal teams in a company are obligated to go for the more prudent position when it comes to copyright. Even if in essence it does not violate primary copyright rules.

And yes we should have slider to 0. How can I make a snake person with TRIBBLE? Not doing Medusa.
