Fellow STO forum folk, I'm hoping that we can find a solution to a problem which has vexed me for the past few hours, and seems extremely resistant to being solved.
I recently purchased a new computer (an Asus G73Jh-X5 Laptop with its default loadout and the latest drivers for all of my hardware, should any of these be an issue), and installed the Star Trek Online client. It just so happens that I went a little crazy when STO came out, so I have two flavors of the client - one from the Collector's Edition DVD, and the other digitally via Steam. Functionally, I've been unable to find a difference, and in this instance have the Steam version installed on my machine.
In either instance, considering I've installed both, the launcher loads to the log-in screen like normal when I run the program. Of note, the only unusual detail is that the client does not display the current version of the launcher. Otherwise everything is normal - the ads load correctly, as do all the other graphics, and the log-in waits for me entry. Upon entering my log-in information (or any text), the launcher freezes and crashes, sending an error ticket to tech support (the most recent of which is Error Ticket ID 12199065 for reference for any Cryptic folk who might read this). Nothing I seem to do changes this fact.
After reaching an impase with this issue, I set up to submit a Support Ticket. However, my tickets seem to feel that "You must supply a language." Since there's no location anywhere on the ticket screen to supply a language, my STO settings show my language set to English, and the problem is browser agnostic, I've been unable to submit a ticket.
Which leads us back to here. Dear forum folk, what can I do to resume playing Star Trek Online? I have had a hiatus due to the failure of my previous computer, and I am eager to return to the game as a loyal customer.
Thank you - I'm looking forward to seeing any solutions people can offer.
Have you tried starting the game using Run As Administrator on the Launcher? Performed a Force Verify? Do you still crash if you run the game in Safe Mode?
While I cannot speak on behalf of Destrogen, I can vouch for being able to do the following things:
- Set the launcher to "Run as Administrator"
- Select the "Force Verify" option under Options from the launcher
- Select the "Safe Mode" option under Options from the launcher
None of these seem to have any affect on this particular malfunction.
I am able to start the program successfully by directly running the GameClient.exe, but the game stalls out trying to contact the Account Server. I presume this is due to the fact that the game hasn't been updated properly, and therefore the Account Server and my client no longer speak the same "language."
Anything else I can try? I am itching pretty badly to get back to playing.

you can not run the game from the gameclient.exe you have to use the launcher (startrekonline.exe) as the launcher has to pass information to the gamecleint to allow it to login.
there is also only one cleint . the collector edition / standard edition and steam version are all the same. only only difference is the key code that is on the account that tells the servers what benifits your get in the game.

Thank you for the info, PegasusMD. I figured that using the GameClient.exe wouldn't work - it does tell me that the problem seems to be with the way the launcher is interfacing with my system, and that fixing my problem may lay in that vein.
Also, it's good to know that the software is identical no matter where you get it from - it take that away as a varriable.
Unfortunately, this still leaves me with a launcher that won't launch, and no way to tell tech support.
While I'll not entirely be clear as to why Teamviewer would interfere with STO, that seems to have done the trick. I'm patching away, and looking forward to reboarding the USS Andrastea and launching from spacedock.
Thank you, everyone - It's been fantastic working with you.
