That's because it's not T'nae who gives you this week's mission. Call Obisek on your remote contacts.

You don't need to know the specific mechanics behind an Iconian Gateway. There's no lore saying they can't divert transporter signals. It was the Gateway, a relatively unknown technology capable of things the Federation might not know of.

This is easily my favorite episode season so far.

    1) Who would be doing the analyzing to figure it out?

    Me. I'm an engineer.
    2) I love logic and consistency. The simple fact I didn't use it was enough for me to know it was probably blocked. No need to get insulting and angry.

Apologies, I didn't mean to be insulting, per se. Obviously I made the leap that comms were blocked. But it's not very Trek-ish to take something like that as a given without actually trying out the comm badge to make sure that's the
    case.

In Trek we saw enough moments like: "Kirk to Enterprise, beam me up", and there being a comms issue that made the protagonist have to try other options. The fact that the option wasn't there just seems lazy. Thus my frustration with your complacancy in what I see as lazy writing.

Some people don't like to sit there and work they're way to the top. They would rather just complete a mission and get an awesome shield.

It's not that much work. I got the Aegis set via trading in all the random stuff I casually scanned over the course of playing the game in the year before Aegis was released. Didn't feel like work at all. You'd be amazed at what you can craft using minimal effort on your part.

I think the Reman shield is just the start of a set. And what makes the TOS phaser better than just a pretty weapon? I would like to clarify that I think it would be nice for it to have some special stats, but not every reward has to have super uber stats.

I hope that's the case with the Reman shields. And the TOS phaser really is nothing special, but it would be nice if it had something a little extra. Hell, make it so that it costs 9 energy to fire instead of 10 with no other change to it and that'd make it awesome.
But to each their own, I don't necessarily agree but I respect your opinion. :)

    I respect yours too.

you'll be happy to know that t'nae doesn't give the mission.

i had one character that the mission wouldn't come up for, turns out i had another window option open so i couldn't hail the contact. my bad ;p

also, you'll need to run frozen 4 times to get all the accolades, make sure you arrest 40 romulans to get "incarcenator"- thats the first option when you tell him you're going to arrest him. also another accolade for when you say you'll help him.

I'm an explorer and an engineer. I want to know the mechanics behind the gateway. I at least want the opportunity to piece together the circumstances of my abduction and the method behind it. I'm a human being. I'm naturally curious. It's a shame that you're claiming "you don't need to know" is how a human being should deal with certain situations. Just because you like remaining blissfully in the dark doesn't mean that's the correct mindset for everyone to have.

Curiosity has nothing to do with answers. Sometimes you can't get answers. I doubt you'd have enough time to study the Gateway technology long enough to get one. You were trying to escape after all.

I'm guessing you hate unanswerable things like Q or the TV show Lost. :p

Maybe, but wat about the Tac & Sci? It would be a nice little addition but i think it should be low on the priority list though.

Actually Star Trek has had instances of them just ignoring clear ways of doing things with no explanation all the way pack to TOS. (IE "Nemesis" and TOS's "The Enemy Within")
I see it as them not being lazy, but putting their effort into more important places.
It's not that much work. I got the Aegis set via trading in all the random stuff I casually scanned over the course of playing the game in the year before Aegis was released. Didn't feel like work at all. You'd be amazed at what you can craft using minimal effort on your part.

I agree, and I do craft. But I know they're people out there that don't see it like that. The amount of rare particle traces, normal traces and getting enough research points is too much work for some of the casual players.
I hope that's the case with the Reman shields. And the TOS phaser really is nothing special, but it would be nice if it had something a little extra. Hell, make it so that it costs 9 energy to fire instead of 10 with no other change to it and that'd make it awesome.

Considering how popular they are, I give it a few weeks or maybe a month or two.
    I respect yours too.

Thank you, I appreciate people who know how to civil. I respect you for that. :)

Ok here's something I don't understand. The logs in the Romulan base say that the coliseum is for pitting alien species against each other, but all I fought was a couple spiders, warriguls, sehlats and some tremor worms. Don't get me wrong, the overall design was well done, for the most part, but I'm a Klingon in a Coliseum fighting as a captured Gladiator! Where were the hardcore fights!?! Why am I not fighting Gorn? Naussicaan? Cardassian? Vulcan even? Or how about that Reman that came out of the cage next to me??? Somebody!!!
That was the main thing that bothered me. That and I wanted my Bird of Prey to uncloak behind the Romulans at the end of the mission, but we can't have everything we want :D.

As to the communicator issue perhaps a quick cut scene on the transporter pad of your Boffs landing but not you and the transporter chief says your signal was "pulled away" with a slightly baffled voice or text to the same effect. Then your the boff in your number one slot says begin scanning for the Captains comm badge. Quick reply from the chief that he/she is scanning but there is no response and the sensor scans are reporting no energy sources on the planet. Then we cut to you beaming into the cage you look around you wonder where you are and you try your com badge and notice it seems to be fried.

All of the takes a few seconds and fills in alot as well as giving the side benefit of showing us our crew was actually worried about us and not sitting around twiddling their thumbs and pondering when you will contact them.

You could also have a moment in the night after you cut the dampening field where your boffs talk again on the bridge that suddenly energy signatures appeared on the surface they aren't sure how they were camouflaged but they are there now. Your XO which till the system is implemented could be your top slot boff meaning on a cruiser the commander slot engineer or escort/science vessel equivalent, gives the order to start scanning for the captains life signs or any distress signals and beam you out immediately.

Now we flip forward to just after you are beamed up and you land on ship. Your boff asks if you are ok and you give a not now statement and start issuing orders to interdict the planet and contact Star Fleet (Admiral Tnea). As you are talking a boff interrupts with a report of energy readings spiking on the surface culminating in an explosion. Scans indicate the structure you were held in is now gone and there are no life signs remaining. Admiral Tnea says your imprisonment and testimony coupled with Obisek's testimony indicates outside interference and that Star Fleet can now become involved. Contact Obisek and he apologizes about the betrayal and is gratified to hear of Star Fleets' decision. That resolves all that =P

As for the sehlats I like the dog breeding idea.

As to the shields perhaps only the X and XI versions would get and additional stat doesn't have to be huge, but it would give me an excuse to put them on instead of Aegis or Borg. Still they look awesome and even if they don't change I will use it at ESD for looks =)

The only place the difference really matters is PvP. I have done VA level STFs with even the crappy borg regen shields and been fine. So if you are min/maxing for PvP get some capx3s otherwise just go with what looks cool :). The aegis without the set bonus only gets you +1 to shield power and about +50 to the heal from EPTS, while the reman shields have a few hundred more capacity depending on your ship, so they are pretty equal. Plus the reman shields save you from having to grind emblems or crafting mats(or money) for the aegis or capx3s. So they also hold you over for a while even at VA. Also they are basically free. Takes 20mins or so to do the mission on normal, which is easy as it gets. So for a standard mission reward they are great. I wouldn't expect to have the best shields in the game to be just handed to me. They are a perfect value for the effort to get them.

Normally this is my stance... however in this case it's important because the Aegis shields aren't merely good by themselves; but they also help deliver important set bonuses. It's one thing to take a small performance hit in favor of awesome looks (I do it all the time) - it's another to take a substantial performance hit for it.

Now... if there were a Reman set of some kind...

Science is all about trying to discover the answer to mysteries. I'm not asking for all the answers, just some little plausible event that shows my character trying to figure things out, or how he got there. Like interference from a Romulan transporter. Simple. Effective. Doesn't ruin the Iconian mystery.

Q was fine because he didn't represent a mystery that the Trek crew never got to figure out. He was there to test the crew's capacity for growth and enlightenment.

And please don't talk about Lost. The fan backlash against that series throwing in too much mysterious garbage and leading them on, claiming that things would eventually be explained but never quite doing so, made that series too ridiculous for words. That show wasn't a big mystery, it was a DMT-induced waking dream that was ultimately disappointing as hell.

People love a good mystery - that's a given. The best thing about a mystery is using your brain to work it out and solve it for yourself. But if you introduce a mystery that is unsolvable because it's too mysterious, convoluted and inconsistent, it will only serve to **** people off. If you set up a mystery like that, the answer to it all becomes: "It's all because of magic. A wizard did it. Thanks for watching, LOL!".

Nobody likes to be given a puzzle, then be told after working on it for an hour that there's no solution. It becomes nothing more than a big middle-finger to the audience.

First of all, loved the episode. It had a great mix of trek ground adventure episodes like "The Enemy", "Attached", "The Ascent", and a little style from "Flight of the Phoenix" thrown in. I also loved the tip of the hat to ST:VI at the end.

However, I have a few criticisms about the mission, major and minor, so stop reading here if you hate spoilers:

    1. How did my transporter beam get intercepted so that I materialised into the arena cage? Some technobabble exposition would've been nice.

IMO, Devs, please STAY AWAY from Technobabble. TOS never needed it, and if there was one thing that annoyed the hell out of me in the 24th century TV series, it was the 5 minute Technobabble garbage that made zero sense . The way you handled everything in this mission was fine.

Not gonna lie, it's kind of disappointing that a HUGE part of the storyline is explained in those two optional consoles. Someone playing just for the objectives won't see them, and head straight for the waste pipe.

That's not disappointing - that's the player's danger. Having that kind of written content in the game is supposed to be an incentive to exploring the map. If the player doesn't do that, it's on them. The idea of the Feature Episode is, in part, to be more than your average MMO episode. I certainly wouldn't want to trade that in.

My boffs are beamed up without me. I then get beamed away by a Romulan transporter.

I try my communicator, I get static.

Fine explanations, no technobabble and the story remains consistent.

Does no one pay attention to the details or even he content in the "episodes". I mean really it's not he devs falt you didn't read the consoles or the texts and just ran through the mission. They shouldnt have to walk you through it in baby steps and explain everything that happens, somethings can't be explained they just happen.

Thank you devs for the Episode I loved it and thought it was very well done

I admit, it's some of these little details that pervented me from giving Episode 4 an A.

Yes, it would've been nice to have somekind of scene that details your transporter beam being redirected to the surface than your starship.

And of course the ending, would've been great if we had an ending that "poof" back on the ship. Would've been great if you had some of your Bridge Officers welcoming you back and then giving the order to leave orbit.

As for the Iconian Gateway, the Debriefing mentions the gate, so perhaps we will return to destory it in Episode 5.

it's not, the quest is bugged, most of the time they dont even show up, i ran all the way to the other side of the map. and when i finnaly found what rocks the dude diudnt follow so when i had to "treat his wounds" (y i cant just make him tell me where hsi ship is then ditch him i dunno)i had to the start the thing over twice and thats just cuz of the constant crashes./end rant

very good episode.. the only things that threw me off was that the "we need a place to hide for the night" thing, the message happened a bit too early. i would have liked to get it more around the halfway point to where it is now. last, it seemed cut off to me.. when i beamed up i would have liked to finish it off with a scene (interactive or not) where i go to ship mode above the planet and i hit a button that says "get us out of here, now!" then have the ship warp out of the system.... i was expecting it and then being in sector space i wasnt sure where i was at for a half a second :p

the entire episode was perfect, and it was very well thought out. it really shows. it felt like a show, felt like an adventure, felt like a game.

i do understand that the math puzzle was meant as an initial "cleverness" test that gets you caught in the arena if you outsmart it. it had its place.. and it made sense to me, even though a few people got thrown off by it i think.

Argh; Cryptic I hate you for making me wait another 6 days untill the nex part of this FE comes out :). Last nights episode was truly epic and I thank you for that.
It was a story of epic proportion and I loved every second of it, this entire series is just full of win and I will surely replay them all in succession once the final part is released.

On a further note to all STO-staff, you guys rock. The improvements this game has seen in the past year deserve nothing but respect and I love how you interact with your customer base and were it's possible listen to them.
After a nine month break from STO, you have gotten me more addicted in 4 weeks then in the first 3 months of release last year.
