I support a Mac port of STO as well. I have been using STO on OSX using doh123 solution. It works well most of the time (only had trouble patching once or twice of the last one year). I use it on a Macbook Pro 13" and use a 24" monitor as a primary display (this is used for STO), while the 13" on the Macbook Pro is used for Vent, Firefox and other support function.
iMac here. I'm getting the torrent download as we speak to get rid of the Windows in my bootcamp. It has been my cross to bear ever since closed beta. I'm looking forward to having my whole computer even though I've run successfully with the setup I have.

I Once tried to boot camp... it was a mess because of XP. The whole process was just like any other Microsoft install, buggy and unfinished. After using it for like a hr I deleted it totally from my iMac. Would never let windows boot camp ever again.
I used Windows for 20 years and it wasnt until I came across A Apple Store, checked out one of their computers and noticied a DRAMATIC difference. It was cleaner, Very easy to use, and no viruses. Dont have to deal with spyware, adware, malware, etc. System runs smooth. I have my iMac for 8-9 months and have not ever used a anti virus. Computer runs AMAZING! With windows... shoot u have to run a anti virus every week or so, checking system process for active viruses, malware, adware, etc. Then comes that format that is inevitable cause the computer is just too slow and corrupted. No Thank you.
Thanks to doh123 and Cryptic for being able to play STO on Mac.
Roy_Vash - you don't need to torrent and reinstall. Just get the wrapper from doh123 (very small file), open the .app and copy the STO folder from your Bootcamp into the .app and you are done and ready to play.
Now that I've started using the Foundry, I really want STO to work on my 27" iMac under Mac OS X so I can have the extra screen real estate. Just like any IDE, bigger is better. I'd rather not Bootcamp it since my iMac is my primary computer and I don't want to disconnect from everything else to run STO.
* And Thank you to doh123 and anyone who helped making this port a reality
I started the Wineskin project before STO was around... but I love Star Trek so I ended up using this as a major testbed to make Wineskin better. Several companies have started using it for "official" ports of their programs... even one other MMO I know of, Fallen Earth has a Mac Beta version thats built with Wineskin, and a more "adult" game I won't mention I just found out is testing it out as well. There is limits to what I can do, simply because I'm not that advanced of a programmer, but I'm learning every day. Wine is very complicated... if they wanted to make a Wineskin port and have it official, they would need a programmer or two on staff that learned Wine well and customized Wine source code to work completely correct and fix ESD issues and such.... Wineskin is set up to make that easy so they can use their own Wine builds... Wineskin Winery can compile and make a Wineskin Engine from Wine source... rather easily.
Also Dan if you guys do manage to make The STO Mac Port official I think brining it to The Apple Store is a must. Cant tell you how much foot traffic we get. It would also turns some heads as people look for a great game to play on Mac.
At first I would have thought it wouldn't be allowed in the App store... but then I saw some Cider ports in the App store... since Wineskin is very similar to how Cider works, without the price tag (or support)... it might actually be accepted. I haven't wanted to pay $99 for a year subscription as a Mac dev just to test that out...
does this game run under a quad core i7 with a 6750 1g dedicated DDR5 graphics card?
but more importantly, can it run Crysis?
edit;
a Mac version would be awesome. But make it clean, Doh lives up to my expectations because it's third party, by few people. I've played a few games and been disappointed on how they handled the creation/port of my version.
Many might not know, but I do play on a Mac, so this would be very useful and I am in support of it.
yes.. I recently got my hands on a 2011 17" MBP... and it runs very quickly, now I'm just figuring out how to pay for it if I'm going to keep it.... :-)
doh123 -- You probably heard this millions of times before, but I just want to thank you for the STO wrapper. You are amazing and this is probably one of the biggest contribution to the Mac STO community and for those of us on the Mac, the wrapper has made our life a lot better. My humble opinion is that cryptic should engage you as a consultant to lead their programmers in the development of an official wineskin port (and fix ESD issues). This would greatly reduce the learning curve of their programmers and the time it takes to bring to market a mac version.

Please use anti virus if you interact with windows users, it's not nice when Mac users infect windows computers through compromised USB sticks and such, not saying you've done it but it can happen.

Okay what the hell if I insert that link then "****ch" gets censored, sure there is a rude word in there but still.
So, instead of making content in a game sorely lacking it, you're going to waste programming time to make a Mac client for this game?
Every time you take one step forward to regaining my faith in you guys and this game, you do something setting yourself two or three steps back.
Great job, Cryptic.
