I think it looks pretty in any case. Would just like to see a more caeteria vibe to the table placements, which look a bit too much like a more elegant restaurant placement.
I see the Nitpick Train has arrived at Aggravation Station.
Let's all remember that the Connie Refit had ginormous panaramic windows, and this was constructed in an era not too far off from the original Connie. The Retrofit's architecture also had a movie's budget while the original did not. I'm up for listing the lack of windows as 'budget constraints' on TOS, and not as an explicit choice not to put them in.
Hmmmmm.... what do I have to do to get those wall trophies. That's the real question.
The one on the left is the kill 1000 Romulans trophy. No idea what that one on the right is, but I'm inclined to believe it's a trophy for completing this Featured Episode series.

An acceptable argument. +1
As I said... Just because we didn't see it, doesn't mean they didn't have it. Due to limited budget during the 60s, i'm sure there is plenty of things they would've done differently, if they had the funds to do so.

It's not that I am nitpicking. I just happen to like the lounge as it appeared. The interior of the Connie had a naval ship-like design to it that was based on function and not aesthetics, unlike later ships. It's the same with the defiant class. That's what still gives it it's charm today. Ships like the Galaxy and Intrepid classes were built with more creature comforts and aesthetics.
IMO there's a way to please both the canon purists and those that like windows at the same time. Of course it means adding some "functionality" (*hiss*) to the interior.
Have there be bulkheads by default, but include a wall panel which allows players to retract the bulkheads and allowing the crew to see out. There's absolutely no suggestion in TOS why this couldn't have been the case.
there's a case in canon for this..
while not specifically the lounge, the TOS Enterprise has "Veiwing ports" with retractable bulkheads, as seen in the episode "The mark of Gideon"

I still get the feeling that the Constitution was only spartan because of budget constraints for the set. It was a show about exploration primarily. You'd think it'd be designed to be comfortable since it's mostly being used for long range exploration assignements. The Defiant was only made spartan because of it was a warship.
the nx had windows btw... i think this might be a case where you only saw half the room and we have extrapolated that every other mess hall that had a budget had windows - but who knows maybe we have more reference out there to analyze to death.
Dan, Dan, Dan.
Yes, the NX-01 had windows, but that's ENT, not TOS. The TOS Connie never had windows in the Lounge.
Not that I'm complaining. It's a good change and adds a bit of life to an otherwise sterile looking room.
first it's "OMG WHY ARE THE HALLWAYS TOO BIG" now it's "OMG THERE'S WINDOWS"? jeez people, relax. Devs, the room looks absolutely great keep up the good work.
I like the viewing ports idea, to make it clear that's what it is they could kinda quarter closed so we the bottom of viewport covers, still kinda silly but it's canon. I'd love an interior with no windows or viewports(well I guess a few small ones is okay) and instead TOS and general Trek fan art where windows would be(but like good fan art, there's tons of mediocre stuff out there people for some reason call good). It'd be a nice excuse for a contest anyway.

It may look barebones by todays standards, or even ten years ago. But in 1969 it held it's own. It is what it is.
i think it is really nice looking. i especially love the scaling. its spacious enough to get around without a lot of hassle, and still small enough where you wouldn't really notice unless you were really really trying. love it
I approve. Looks very, very good! Yes, I'm one of those "OMG, the roomz are teh hyooj!!" people. This looks great; a good compromise between scale and room for the camera.
I'm a big TOS fan. I don't mind that this mess hall has windows. I'm actually just thankful that the windows aren't four stories tall. Like in my quarters! XD
Also, they had space backdrops which you can see in every episode. So it's not as if cutting a hole in the wall would have cost a fortune if that's how they wanted it.

I believe his point is that it's not 1969 right now so there's no reason for something made today to remain that "barebones". Which I'm inclined to agree with, and that's why I think windows are fine.

It's supposed to be a TOS interior. It's going to look a little barebones. That being said however, I'm not arguing with you.;)

I agree with this. I grew up with TOS and am very happy with this screenshot. I am especially happy that it seems more scaled.

I believe his point is budget restraints.
I'm not trying to argue a point. Just sharing my own. We all love TOS stuff.

Ditto! I am a DS9 fan that grew up with a TOS nut for my dad. I love TOs second best and I love this pic so far and the Oberth that was also in that link

Minor nitpick. Beautiful art.
Anyone notice that the scaling is similar to the TOS lounger (or looks that way).
Yeah, the scaling is looking great so far. It's a nice compromise between "OMG, why are the rooms so big" and what was seen in the shows and movies.

pic of one being opened here
so cryptic could easy get away with having those moving bulheads being there, and being "down" in TOS shots and "open" in the pic posted by Dstahl...

The Defiant may have retractable bulkheads in it's mess hall:

They may or may not be retractable, it's hard to tell.
it'd be easy enough to do in game, just re-purpose the tech behind the sliding doors so it goes up instead of sideways

God that's sexy! I can't wait for the TOS interiors... it will be the first C-store purchase I will have made since the Vor'cha variant skin!
The officers' mess on the Constitution Class did. It even had it on-screen.
that was the TMP refit... not TOS
and they used a lot of TNG sets in those movies for budget reasons.
That's for all the teaser screenies lately DStahl. They're really building up our anticipation!

Was the officer's mess ever seen in TOS?
As far as I knew, the recreation room/bar had no windows (i.e. The Trouble with Tribbles, Trials and Tribble-ations)

Watch the Naked Time in the first 10 minutes. That's one episode that comes to mind. The wall in the back is the outerhull. No windows.
