we were discussing powers that the Oberth should come with.

One suggestion thrown out was a second "abandon ship" power, in case the first one wasn't enough.

    :)

just kidding - we wouldn't do that... but it was funny

    My Oberth Suggestion

    Science Cloak

    Background:
Based on the Prototype Starship Pegasus, this Oberth class Science Vessel contains experimental cloaking technology allowing it to do detailed scientific scanning while being virtually invisible.

    Description:
Science Cloak is a special ability assigned to the Oberth class vessel, that allows it's captain to conduct scientific research while cloaked. This cloak allows for scanning of anomalies, vessels, and any other non combat scientific sensor tasks.

    Target: Self
    Activation: 0.5 Seconds
    Duration: 240 Seconds
De-Activation: 2 Seconds (This is the drawback of using this ability, if discovered enemy will have 2 seconds to fire while you have no shields)
    Cooldown: 240 Seconds

    Downgrades:
    - Shields reset to 0 while active
    - Weapons disabled while active
    - Base 10% chance of detection by enemies within weapon range
    - Chance of detection increases over time, and as enemy gets closer to your location (Max 20%)

all of our Mirandas are credited with several negvar kills too

Yeah forgot about those Negvar kills in a Miranda, lol. Like I said, I don't think throwing an Oberth into the mix will make much of a difference considering the weird kills we get now. Would also like to hear info on the Ambassador class to, I'm starting to think the silence around it might mean the devs have something special in mind for it. Or that they haven't bothered to make it lol.

I can see the Oberth as an alternative to the Miranda for captains leaning towards science vessels. And NO CLOAK of any kind please. :)

I gotta say I'm mostly against a cloak, too. It makes sense to retrofit a class with a special feature unique to one member of that class, but only when that feature proves successful.

The Defiant was very successful using a cloak.
Voyager was very successful using ablative generators.
The Prometheus was very successful using MVAM.
The Pegasus got stuck in a rock.

The Excelsior gets a pass because A. its transwarp drive failed at least in part due to sabotage, and B. it took over a century to get it working.

So, who wants to see the Ambassador with a LTC science BO? I sure do. That or universal.
    Either of these two, please:
    Cdr eng
    Ltc sci
    Lt eng
    Lt tac
    Ens sci

    OR

    Cdr eng
    Ltc universal
    Lt sci
    Lt tac

Tier 4 already has the exploration cruiser though. The Galaxy is superior to the Ambassador in its original state, so why would they put it in the same tier? It should really be in the tier 3.5 range, but since that's not feasible, the Ambassador must follow the path of the Excelsior. Tier 3 basic version with a tier 5 refit version. With my suggested layout it is basically the science-focused equivalent to the Excel, which is a role that hasn't been filled yet

Special ability? None please. Give us 9 evenly balanced consoles.

That same cloak got the Enterprise D OUT of a rock. Regardless, I am not asking for phasing, i am asking for something that would make some of the daily grind missions with enemies a bit less of a grind.

Lots of the explore missions require one to scan multiple ships or devices, with enemy involvement. A neat benefit to making it through combat free, would be the addition of maybe 10 diplomatic points (if they added it).

my take from a few pages back. it better not be a tier 5 galaxy clone without saucer sep

for the ambassador, maybe make it a science counterpart to the excelsior. give it a sci ltcom station. but there is already the nebula thats sort of in that position, and if that versa ship is coming out it should get this set up.

what i'd REALLY like you guys to do is make it a counterpart to the nebula, the cruiser that ended up being sci. make the ambassador a cruiser that ended up being an escort. if you did that you could give it a tier 3 and tier 5 ships, seeing as there isnt a set up like that for escort yet. stations should be something like this

    com tac
    ltcom eng
lt tac (or universal like the neb)
    ltsci
    ens tac

though it would officially be an escort, dual cannons should be restricted, in return it should have 8 weapon slots. give it stats similar to a saucer separated galaxy, or klingon raptor. like 34000 health and the low for an escort turn rate of 15 or 14.

if you think it needs a special ability too, maybe something like a hold together skill- for 30 seconds the ship wont explode until it has -20% hit points. 3 min cool down.

why would an ambassador be a escort? well at this point in time its an old cruiser looking at its final refit before its retired for good. with the current political climate, starfleet would probably decide to turn this obsolete work horse into a battle ax. load as much advanced weapon systems as possible into its sturdy hull and send it back out on the front lines.

    Eww the Oberth class.

Is there really a demand for this travesty of a kitbashed model?

Or is CBS making you do it?

Many of us hate the look of one or 2 ships in the ST universe, but, not everyone will impose their opinion on others who think differently. Let diversity prevail, run what you like, and don't worry about others want. ;)

    Peace, and long life!

The Oberth is not a kitbash, it was completely original.

I can see it as a trainer-ship when they add Starlfeet Academy.

And I love those ideas about random "break downs" LOL. That would be so awesome. (Of course, they would have to add that to NPC's too). Your crew would start repairing it, like hull repair, maybe have a little meter showing progress until you can MOVE again. One of your BO's could have a dialog box pop up. Heck, I don't see why we couldn't have spontaneous missions IN the SHIP. You have to run around and do stuff in the ship or it blows up.

That would be kind of embarrassing at ESD. People would be sayin' "Man get that oil burner outta here before it..." *( ( (THOOOM ! ) ) )* (takes out like 3 other ships)
    "DUDE!!"
    "Those ships SUCK!!"
    "LOL"
"Why din u tractor him outta range?"
    "sorry yall :( "

And completely hideous. :p It looks like several different kits thrown together after some cutting has been done to various pieces.

If people want it, I guess. But this thing really isn't that popular is it? Especially compared to say The Akira? (and no we don't have an Akira. T3 is NOT what that ship truly is capable of.)

How about it comes with a captain ability called "pompus TRIBBLE" and lets a civilian on board tell you what to do, then gets you and your crew killed?

I think the Oberth would make a great T3 Science Ship. The big hospital 'ball' thing from all good things makes me a little ill. However, I do respect it because some people like it.

I think the Oberth should have two powers:

    Long Range Sensors:
The ability to see vessels at up to fifty kilometers.

    and the option between

    Phase Cloak:
The ability to cloak while in combat and pass through other ships.
A 30% Defense Boost while cloaked.
The ability to fire torpedoes while cloaked (Cloak Effectiveness Reduction based on firepower delivery.).

    or

    Spatial Anomaly:
Can fire a Gravity Well / Tyken's Rift Combo.
    Effectiveness based on Aux Power.

I think you are confusing the Olympic for the Oberth... I used to do the same thing.. lol

    Saith, and Jolan'tru!

lol, I would imagine that the Oberth won't be up to doing too much, since I'm pretty sure it'll be a T1 or T2 ship!
Though something to make it "unique"? I dunno what that would be for now, BUT when the Duty Officer System goes live, I could totally see it as having expanded research facilities.

Brilliant idea! It can replace the god awful golf ball ship. (spell check did goofball, that works too yes?)

I think you misunderstand. He is saying he would like the Oberth as a T3 in lieu of using the Olympic. I agree with his reasoning. That is why I use the Nebula.
