Oh come Dstahl what is game becoming. you guys planning on giving us things in the current timeline instead of all things that are not even used in order timeline. we all no the rank of commodore was stop use by starfleet why bring it in game. At this rate you guys will ne come up with any new ideas for the game.
Actually, there's very little to support the fact that Commodore was or is no longer in use in Starfleet. It's assumed that that's the case because we never saw a Commodore in the later (chronologically speaking) series, but there's a lot of stuff that was in the original series that never came up in TNG, DS9 or Voyager, but just because we never saw any doesn't mean they didn't exist.
It'd be presumptuous of me to assume that just because we never saw any Tellarites, Caitian, Orions, Gorns, Saurian, or Rigelians in those later series that all of those species must have all gone extinct at some point before the era they were set in.
sorry to rain on the dance party - but it looks like we've reserved commodore for a future feature related to Fleets and Starbases. so it is coming - just not as soon as this thread suggested.

**Edit** and some folks beat me to it.
we are talking about rank here ot race. but if you want to start with that i will say they is no way the Klig can conqure the Gorns. not even a million years. but i brush that of because they need a story for the KDF. the other race are part of the federation and if you check federation members the species like tellarites, caitian, saurain and rigelians are all listed there so that i will take. the rank of commodore was not in use in any sphare or form in the starfleet rank after TOS. since the rank system is base on the US. Navy.
Well, if commodore is used the way Bellsarius said in game (and apparently in one of the Star Trek books according to Memory Alpha) it makes sense that it would be a fleet title...

This sounds way cooler than the title being handed out in a c-store pack. Them ToS Commodores always did have a comfy starbase to come home to, didn't they?

In my mind, rank or species, it's the same debate. You're saying that since the rank of Commodore only saw screentime in TOS and none of the other incarnations of Star Trek, it ceased to exist. My stance was that your logic was flawed due to the species I mentioned (regardless of if the species are Federation members or not) ALSO failed to have any screen time in any of the three post TOS series.
The ranking system for Star Trek being based on the US Navy is irrelevant since, as stated in a post above, the US Navy still used the rank of Commodore.
At any rate, I respectfully agree to disagree with you, since I haven't seen any evidence to support your assumption, from any canon or expert sources.
However, I very much agree with you about the Klingons conquering the Gorn... I just can't really see that happening either.
Commodore has never been a vertical rank. Not evCaptain gets the title Commodore: most go from Captain to RALH.
Commodore is a Captain filling a post where he/she commands multiple ships (and that's the only thing distinguishing it from a glorified captain) and earns the honorifics. It'd be pants-on-head crazy to have a title that only exists due to leading multiple ships be a non-ship leading position.
they could give the commodore title out as a bonus for reaching Fleet Admiral it's the most logical way to give the title out given that your leading ships

And ya know what? That's an answer that I can live with. The dead horse is actually quite alive. Thank you very much. As it's the first confirmation to player's that Commodore will come with a future feature of STO.
It would be pretty nifty to have some kind of TOS title tossed in if Commodore is being saved.
Fleet Captain and Commodore were both TOS-only ranks that would make for a nice title.
One other thought would be a set of themed TOS titles:
Commodore
Fleet Captain
Technician
Yeoman
Midshipman
All were titles exclusive to TOS and the TOS-era films and were retired by TNG. I'm just tossing them all out if Commodore is taken.
"Old Country Doctor" has been a title I've wanted to see but it probably works better as an accolade title.
And if you wanted to make people scratch their heads, you could throw in "Captain Dunsel". A dunsel is 23rd century slang for a useless ship part and Kirk was called "Captain Dunsel" in "The Ultimate Computer" as an insult to imply he was obsolete.
I think one would be awesome. Just throwing some options out.
Don't forget 'Chief" for those non-com RP characters out there.
Oh and while we are on this topic, can we do something about the ranks NPCs refer to you as? Its a bit immersion breaking to have NPCs say, "Hello, Rear Admiral (Lower Half)."
In cases like this, just 'Rear Admiral' would be great! Or even better, have them use the rank we pick with your character bio's - my main character is a Captain (and has refused promotion several times), but the NPCs in game keep calling me 'Rear Admiral (Upper Half)'

Please, please do this Cryptic, oh and also if it's not too much trouble can you make so we can let some of our BO's use the titles we've earned as well as well.

To beat the dead horse...
Rear Admiral Lower Half should be Commodore.
/discssion.
Why, oh why, must we beat the dead horse?? It never done anything to us.:D

It died. Now I can't ride it.
it is commodore. it mean Higher captain.
I'm assuming that is what Cryptic is doing.

Nope. I'd rather have dstahl's idea.

Everybody knows you hit Commodore at level 64.
