While I realize to some extent gamers might not care about the fiscal realities of producing games and getting them to market, and making them sustainable, maybe they should.
I tend to agree with this a great deal of the time. It's easier, unfortunately, for folks to say "I don't care, just do it." And, sadly, they do. I don't know if it's lack of respect, lack of interest, or both. In the end, that tends to be where the developers (or really anyone dealing with a customer) start scratching their heads. In order for something to evolve, it must first exist. It cannot spring into life fully grown and fully evolved (e.g. perfect in every way).
Not only from a technical perspective, mind you, but a preference perspective. Every person on this planet has preferences and the way they'd like to see things done. To some degree or another, some of these preferences are similar to others. And, in most ways, everyone else wants something different from the other. The only way to make it perfect would be to make it so customizable that you could even remove Star Trek from the game entirely -- and it would cease to be.
It goes back to the axiom, "You can please some of the people all of the time. You can please all of the people some of the time. But, you can't please all of the people all of the time." It's just not possible.

That is not what Karl Marx or Cass Sunstien have said.
yikes! a response from the big man himself. I feel like I poked a sleeping dragon
of course I don't blame the developers for anything, they obviously do the best with what resources/time/budget/personnel they are given, and if they have to sell stuff on the C-Store to deliver us better content with what Atari(?)/Cryptic(?) suits have given them then that's cool.
can't wait for these new craftables though, hope there's some Mk XII stuff in there (maybe even those fighters we've read about?)
With this policy in mind - to then say that we are "miking" isn't fair at all . No one is forcing you to buy anything and if anything we are going out of way to ensure subscribers can get the same items without spending points in the c-store.
While I approve of your making sure everything (that isn't a costume) is available in game as well, I can't say I approve of actually mentioning the C Store in game. People will continue to put a negative spin on the C Store when featured episode series begin by saying "You don't have to use the crappy little shuttle we give you, you can buy a nice shiny cool one in the C Store!" like the first of the Romulan series did (in so many words).
This is on the schedule, and we will get it in as soon along with other additions to craftable items in Memory Alpha. I'm waiting on a few last items so I can put them all in at once.
thanx for the answer...
if there is one thing i don't like it is "waiting"...
but if it is part of a bigger update at least it will be worth the wait
Don't know where you got customizable from. It is the same shuttle as in the c-store - just another way to obtain it like how you can pay for other c-store ships with emblems/marks.
actually i am looking more forward to the way we gonna earn them, then the actual shuttle.
In my eyes how a game should work is -> do something that is fun and challenging, maybe a little exhausting -> get a cool reward -> be proud of the reward you worked for.
buying the item in the C-Store takes away that fun and the challenge... and for me it even takes away some of the pride.
sure, you get rewarded for your *work*, but that is the wrong type of work if you understand what i mean.
...and at this point (*points at sig*) i am happy about everything that actually makes me want to PLAY the game.
Oh my this doesn't help me i have to level my alts crafting then. i was hope i could just craft them for my two alts.
I'm in the same boat as you. I have one Fed crafter and one KDF crafter. Looks like that will change... probably won't help the ridiculous prices for data samples either (gold sellers having a field day I bet).
uhm, STO has one of the highest subscription counts of current MMO's, as for the size of the team, what does that have to do with it? get a bigger team then. not my problem.
as I said, other MMO's seem to manage and deliver content on a sustainable basis just from monthly subs just fine.
A lot of MMOs only deliver major additional content via paid expansions. That is the case for most SOE games and for DAOC. Can't speak for all others, but it's actually pretty rare to get a lot of additional content without paying something more.
All of the large MMO's have a cash store. Blizzard doesn't add to theirs too often, but DDO and LOTRO promote their cash stores much more heavily then STO does. Interestingly, the move to a cash store model for DDO has moved it from being in serious jeopardy of going under to the number 3 MMO in the world. That has also done a lot for them getting more content out there.
I really doubt DDO is the number 3 MMO in the world, maybe number 3 in NA/EU, but Asian MMOs have tons of subscribers. Even Aion, which did not do well in NA, has 4 million plus players in Asia. A large amount of WoW's stated numbers come from Asia too, and their NA/EU number is much, much smaller.
I know this is nitpicking since you were simply arguing the micro-transaction model has been successful for DDO, and it has.

hmmm maybe we should add some Mecha Droids or Power Ranger Zords then? Spiderman did it.
So the series is over and we were supposed to be able to start crafting the Delta Flyer. Now, what is the status on this? Was this scrapped or what?
Not scrapped. Delayed a bit (due to me not getting enough time to work on it).
It should make it into the next build. It was 90% done on Friday and I was just waiting on one last piece of tech to hook up all the scan anomalies in the game to the repeatable mission.

Good to hear. I really can't wait to start crafting it.:)

Will this be the only "Daily" we get from this series?
Also, what's the point of doing the DF Crafting missions if we purchased the DF from the C-Store?
Correct - the reward for doing the repeatable "Delta Flyer" mission will be a Crafting Schematic which can be used to claim a Delta Flyer shuttle.
Will this be available for Klingons as well? After all the Empire was still allied with the Federation when the Voyager returned home. I'm sure B'Elanna Torres would have seen fit to provide the Empire with schematics for this fighter/shuttle.

Doubt it. The Federation wasn't sharing their designs for other ships, and B'elana wasn't the main designer of the Flyer (in fact, if you watch the episode, she barely had anything to do with it). Plus, if we were going to get it via crafting, then it would work via c-store as well, which it doesn't.

Main designer was Tom Paris, until Tuvok slapped him and said "you want to put an ugly spoiler on this thing? We're in the 2370s not the 1980s!!!"
No need to be *too* rude, its coming, they made plans for it, I would have like it to come out at the same time but if its buggy its bugg, what are you going to do? delay the mission? I dont think so, look at all the mad people cause you cant craft a shuttle, just think how it would look if they delayed the mission!!
Can we get an update on the timing of the release? end of the month, sooner perhaps?
ps
Nice mission, some parts felt like a long crawl, but at least (in the ground escape from area) I could use my mini map or tri corder to find the stuff. If its one thing i hate its not being able to find place X or plant Y...

strange... first SOE game i ever bought was DC Universe Online and that had a big update after the first month allready.

We can "craft schematics to sell on the exchange."
Plus it's more missions so

Yeah, as soon as Atari decides there's no more money to make with it in the C-store
Still, I've deliberately not bought the Delta Flyer for two main reasons
a) Lack of content - The Vault on replay isn't *that* appealing.
b)I know the crafting's coming and I want to actually craft a starship, even just a glorified runabout ;-)
