Yeah in the same line of the Clone Wars MMO released by SOE recently, hardly worth the time when you have a proper MMO such as STO to play.
Awesome trailer though
Yes the trailer is indeed epic. I loved the DS9 battles and I can't help myself, but seeing a cruiser formation with a Galaxy-class leading it has something majestic in it.
It has the same engine as BSG Online. Impressive for a browser game but not even touching the visual and game quality of STO.
And next thing is: People are crying about the C-Store and its mainly cosmetic sales. I wonder if the same players would join a game where spending 500$/month grants you huge advantages. And I know what I am taking about, I played some so-called "free to play" browsergames like this for a while and got really frustrated when the first euphoria was gone.
Besides that fact, the game mechanics are really flat compared to a "retail" MMORPG: Just test BSG Online and you will learn about it.

Yes, I played one "game" from BP, I think it was a Terminator or something. It's so ugly and primitive that offering ingame advantages for money is a borderline scam attempt. Nevermore.
It's a gameforge game. I have no doubt that it will be fun, but i honestly don't see it being a direct competitor with STO any more than Browser games in general compete with "traditional" style MMOs.
you know what made me laugh the Defiant class ships sound like ships from star wars and also there is no sign of a shield in it at all. those Galaxy class ships went up in a big explosion almost instantly
yes it's German!
German TV station, German Gamestudio, guess what they all talk German.
still the first and only ingame footage so far.
And actually i think it doesn't look as bad as expected, F2P / Microtransaction game... i will at least take a look when it is released. In the end it all depends on Gameplay.

Exactly like displayed in the Deep Space Nine - Dominion War Episodes, and that is where the game is set.
Willing to give it a try, the gameplay however looks just like Star Trek DAC which got old very fast.
The pure F2P model bothers me as well, there always seems to be something you need to advance or something always nagging you with the "hey buy this!" and that also gets old fast.

Ok, I checked out your video link...Check out from about 3:10 in the video onward. The space combat is 2D. C'mon man...FARMVILLE like I said. I do have to admit however that the ground portion they showed with toons walking around the station looked pretty sweet.
Star Trek Armada ...2D
Star Trek Starfleet Command.... 2D
Star Trek D-A-C .... 2D
Star Trek Legacy .... 2D space with a little up and down for flavour
Star Trek Online ....2D space with a little up and down for flavour
same old Song, you expect a casual browser game to have 3D combat like Starfleet Accademy or Brdige Commander?
PS:
i never got disoriented playing Wing Commander, Pricateer or any of the other good old Spacegames back in the day,
today suposedly intelligent people determined that other people are stupid and get disoriented by 3D Spaceflight, so they dumb everything down to make the last casual player's Mom happy...
...i hate beeing a "Hardcore Gamer" or "Core Gamer" these days... nobody makes Games for ME anymore.
Star Trek Online ....2D space with a little up and down for flavour
i'm not sure you quite understand what 2D and 3D means. it means there are either 2, or 3 dimensions. for example you, as a person, are living in 3-dimensional space, space combat in sto happens in a 3-dimensional space also, it is not 2D.

Doesn't it!!!
I couldn't agree more....
I for one, am looking forward to this "simple browser-based game".

Im sure he understands. If it had to be said specifically, it would be single plane combat instead of 2D.
I'll probably play this just because its free.
But it smells like spruced up Star trek DAC, really.

then please do make a barrel roll or a looping.
it's a 3D engine, so is the browser game, but not 3D gameplay.
Having more games in the genre is always a good thing. For example I think it is cool to see City of Heroes, DCUO, Champs, and the future Marvel being able to co-exist. It gives players options and as a gamer - I think that is a good thing.

You guy's are getting all excited about a CGI cutscene...which looks absolutely nothing like what the game is actually going to be. Go find a demo of Star Trek D.A.C and play it, that is what ST:IS is going to play like. Top down Isometric view angle which you cannot rotate around. Kinda like an old school RTS camera view. Which sucks. I will take STO's space combat/flight model any day of the week over that.

I think you earn more money when you have a monoply. You can even build houses for extra cash flow.
ugh@all these new style 'browser games' that try to pretend they are actual oldschool browser games 'omg look you are playing a game just in firefox!!!!'
System requirements for running these browser games is usually way higher than a seperate client solution would be.
e.g the mini-quake3 browser game system requirments are like 3x more than the standard full version!

You heard it here first folks. Cryptic is working on a new Marvel MMO!!!!!!1
Isn't this browser Star Trek game supposed to be open PvP?
For the players, more options is great.
Even if you have a game you really like, it's nice to take a break once in a while and try something else.
For companies, competition is a good thing.
You can't rest on your laurels and have to always improve, otherwise one of the others just might catch up or overtake you.
All in all, it's a different, more casual approach to the genre and license, so I wish them good luck and success.
Comments
EDIT: I think I see Picard and Riker in that picture, maybe Data on the barstool can't be sure.
No, it's a browser game. Has nothing to do with Cryptic.

beside that check the graphics they are meh at best and even though i hate the galaxy class i can point out things that are incorrect in the model.

Which was done only because of lack of budget and it is known the creators did regret that.

It won't last. Impressive for a browser game sure but it's too simple to satisfy Trekkies.
That line, makes me think this game is gonna suck big time. It practically SCREAMS Farmville.
German is such a sexy language.
Seriously.
And OMG a Oberth!!
