On Exploration, Canon, And What We've Lost As A Community

First we lost Cover Shield and now Bio-Thermal Dampener. The following is my recommendation on how the devs can give something back to the community to replace all of the things they've taken from us.

With apologies to Paul Simon and Josh Snyder, both of whom I'm unashamedly ripping off.

LEARN TO HOVER

There was a time when Cover Shield was oh so grand
It let us climb up high and explore all around the land
But then the Devs took that away from us and
Now I think we need to learn to hover
There must be fifty ways to learn to hover

The problem is all inside your head, she said to me
The answer is easy if you take it logically
Post on the forums and see if the others agree
There must be fifty ways to learn to hover
Fifty ways to learn to hover

Give us Rocket Boots, Jack!
Or Climbing Gear, Dan!
You don't need to be Code, ranger!
Post here if you agree.
Telekinetic Flight, Snix!
Site to site beaming Gozer!
Tell 'em in the meeting Stormy!
Help us get ourselves free.

Kirk climbed a mountain in Star Trek Five
Spock used Rocket Boots to save his life
That was exciting and no one had to die
There must be fifty ways to learn to hover
Fifty ways to learn to hover

Exploration is non-combat content, isn't it?
It's already in game but we can't quite reach it
CO shows us that the engine can handle it
There must be fifty ways to learn to hover
Fifty ways to learn to hover

Give us Rocket Boots, Jack!
Or Climbing Gear, Dan!
You don't need to be Code, ranger!
Post here if you agree.

A simple toy that can't be used to grief
Climbing and exploring is fun beyond belief
I could go on but I'm trying to be brief
There must be fifty ways to learn to hover
Fifty ways to learn to hover

She said it's really not my habit to intrude
Furthermore I hope my meaning won't be lost or misconstrued
Remind them that it's canon, but don't be rude
There must be fifty ways to leave your lover

Although that was very nice, I'm glad we lost shield and BTD.

People beyond abused this privilage and it was taken away because of the obvious immaturity and want to grief.

Its kinda sad, Falcon, but again, the things we "lost" as a "community", we gave up willingly, by virtue of the fact that this is an MMO, and MMO's cannot exist without fools and buttheads.

MMO communities in general have the very worst dregs of humanity in them. I say "the very worst" because it isnt just the actual dregs, but rather, the people who ARENT, and choose deliberately to devolve to that online.

I'm glad they took out the ice-cube machine, that thing made social areas miserable for me.

I just want pyrokinesis. That's all I want.

I can put up with lousy explores, lack of the ability to use my cover shield to climb (and for that matter dislodge myself or others when they spawn into a wall) and all the other quirks, if I could simply torch people with my mind. Even if it has a cool-down of an hour. Just one anger and stress relieving moment of being able to point a crooked finger and yell "BURN FOR YOUR SINS!" and to watch it happen.

Some of you are taking this way too seriously.

I just thought I'd make a suggestion that the devs give us the ability to hover or at least climb while on ground maps. I decided to go with something a little less serious and more fun for a change.

The way this thread was ignored, reported and then moved to Ten Forward before it was even responded to does support the claim I've made many times that Trolls get more responses on this forum that anything else.

Interesting. Or I should say, "Fascinating."

Some of us have had a lot of fun climbing around, up cliffs and on top of other items, in ground maps.

When the devs announced the change that prevents Cover Shield from being used in social maps the biggest complaint was, "We use it to climb! Please don't take away our ability to climb."

I'd like the ability to climb. Or a pair of rocket boots like what Captain Spock had in Star Trek 5.

Problem is Cryptic flat out didn't care. They even went as far as to reskin the mountain on Risa because a few people learned how to roll up it. The temple on Vulcan receive more minor touches to prevent the same.

The way I see it is, what was the problem with that?

Next Ask Cryptic, I'm going to try to enter a question about why said things were ever taken away, and if they'll come back with restrictions. I saw on a thread concerning the BTDs some PERFECTLY GOOD suggestions on how to fix it. (Including just making it an infinite-ammo snowball) that would have prevented a total nerf.

Also, climbing gear would be nice :)

Anyway, I'm going to enter a question in the next Ask Cryptic, and I think anyone who wants to see these things come back should to. We should at least get an answer on why they were completely nerfed, and not just half-nerfed. The more people enter questions on this, the more of a chance that we'll force a response out of them.

Well my annual Ask Cryptic question is 'When will you fix Orbital Strike, or did you mess up with the name and is the ability Orbital Suntan working as intended just with the wrong name?"

Meanwhile, my Sovereign had lost blue deflector dish. Why? Because some boo-hoo-ers said 'it's not like the one in the movie!!!!!!1111!' and so my previously really pretty blue dish was replaced by an ugly yellow one.

And then my map-like sector space was replaced by a vertigo inducing darkroom because some people whined about it.

Well when will my whines and complaints be listened to? Where are my cute pleated skirts? Where are my hats? My hair decs? My pony? My working Orbital Strike? Not here. Because the money that could have been been spent on paying someone to do that was instead spent on turning sector space into a playing field for Australian Rules Indoor Quiddich.

And don't give me that 'oh, the person who would develop ponies and fix Orbital Strike (which has sucked since beta) isn't the person who turned sector space into a representation of London during a blackout'. You'd be right. But instead of hiring the sector space person, they could have hired a Orbital Strike fixer person.

And now they wasting time on this turn your first officer into a captain system? Why? Here is how you turn your first officer into a Captain. Edit his costume. Hit save. Exit game. Select new captain. Select the race and career of the first officer. Hit load. Select the saved costume. Name the new character the same as the first officer. See. Your first officer is now a Captain. And we need a system because some people can't figure out how to do this?

    Anyway, that's my stance.

Now, please remain calm. We all may be unhappy about some of Cryptic's resent changes to STO, though I agree that sector space is now USELESSLY STUPID!!! Oh great, I'm getting worked up. Will you people give me a few seconds? I need to do some deep breathing.
