Just wanna toss my two cents in to say that I think the Horta reward was really cool. AND it's not like there weren't two alternate rewards if someone felt as though the Horta wasn't the best option for them. It definitely adds to the "Trek" factor and I really applaud NOT putting it in the C-Store despite the fact it easily would have been a huge seller.

I look forward to seeing what other "fun" things you guys come up with :D

oooo I love my pet horta! :p There are other rewards for those that don't. The episode was truly well done and my partner and I had fun doing it!

I think the main thing people are forgetting is that this is only Episode 2 of the series, if it were episode 5 I might understand the outcry. Take a cool thing where you can. I just hope the finale reward is nice.

btw... BAH on 20 uses of the fighters... >.< hehe

It is definitely better than having a Wesley following me around. Especially during his moody later years.

What ever man, the pet is awesome and anything that adds to the diversity of the game is a plus. Its so much better to see various pets people have vs only seeing cubs on ESD.

Much better then some armor or ship weapon I'll never use. And if this is what we get for one episode man what do they have planed at the end of ep 5?

I find it funny that a minority of people are complaining about the Horta pet... the Birthday was just a week ago, and when people found out that one of Q's 'transformations' was a horta, they were losing their minds.
I think the developers got it right on this one, there are just to many people who have really wanted this( and a horta Bridge Officer), for a few naysayers to kill the buzz that so many players have right now.

And honestly do you know ANYONE who chose the armor over the horta (the first time that is)? I sure don't.

Exactly - it's a non-combat "BO" Starfleet cadet/junior officer! This is SO Trekkie! I love it.

You mean it's the STO version of Wesly (Crusher)?

HA well I haven't done the mission yet, but I must say, I have no clue why people want pets following them around.

It is like the fountain exploiting deal, people going nuts over a little graphic that follows you around, but has no purpose.

I just do not get the obsession with things like that. Never have, really.

I know people say they are fun, but exactly what is supposed yo be fun about it, I do not understand. It is just a matter of opinion I know, but really, having a non-interactive animation following you around is somehow considered fun?

I am by no means complaining, and could care less about rewards on 1 or 2 missions, it is just that I don't get it.

I don't get it at all.

Personally, I think the Horta is pretty cool, but there were also 2 other options for the reward, which were both pretty nice armor. Something that shouldn't be overlooked/dismissed.

As for the horta being a 'pet' or 'slave,' I think they handled that quite well in the text -- you can see it if you take the time to right-click and select 'info:'
A young Horta has chosen to join you on your adventures! This sillicon-based [sic] lifeform will learn from you as you travel and munch on any interesting metals or minerals it encounters. Someday your Horta friend will return to the Chamber of the Ages on Janus IV, but it has a few thousand years to play explorer before that happens.

So relax and enjoy the company of your new Horta friend. (Or try on that armor, if you're really not into Hortas.)

Seriously Cryptic, what's with all these pet rewards? Don't get me wrong, i loved the Mine Enemy mission but i was hoping for a better reward than just another thing that follows me around. We've got enough pets now to start up an intergalatic zoo...what is this Star Trek Online or Farmvile? May i suggest a Thaleron Tribble or my own little Thaleron generator as a reward or maybe a unique romulan BO? Thanks

Don't like it? Take the armor :)

I loved the mission. Cut-scenes were great and the Horta reward was fantastic. It's nice to have a different reward instead of a weapon!
    And it's cute :D
    I want one IRL =(

Who would choose the common reward instead of the unique reward their first time through a mission? I mean, I'll probably never use the Horta reward, but at least I have it for completion's sake.

My (useless) opinion on the reward for mine enemy is that I'll never use any of the mission rewards; the horta is fun to have from a fluff perspective, but pets don't have combat purposes and the armor doesn't touch my energy harness from way back in the "day". I'm not "complaining" per se, since there are a lot of missions whose reward goes straight into the replicator when I complete it. God knows I don't need another MkVII anything from playing non-scaling Romulan episode reruns.

Stormshade I guess my question is, when you look at all 3 rewards for the mission, the only GOOD reward from it is the Horta.

I like reward options, but honestly, give me 3 GOOD options to choose from.

Missed the whole point of can't please everyone huh?

For lower levels and non-grinders the armor is nice, they have something at a future level, or they don't have to grind emblems for (at least for better). Plus now you have some options for replays,

Most acidic reactions are exothermic, so there's a fair amount of heat generated... ;)

The Horta felt...kinda thrown in or like they were trying to force the Horta in where they didn't need to be just to have them there...

I'd have rather gotten a tamed Warrigul, would have made more sense. Could we get one for killing say 100 wrrigul? Or a cool Warrigul head trophy ?

The biggest problem with pet type rewards is that we have no way of increasing our bank space. While i think the Horta is cool and definitely brings me back to my youth watching TOS, it just takes up another space in my inventory which is limited. I understand a large portion of the MMO community love these types of rewards, i too wish it had been different, or at least had more then 2 choices for a reward.

You did see the threads about horta's when Q first started changing people into them?

Yes. It would have to horta to horta, because I'm afraid you wouldn't be able to dance after using one to keep your feet warm. Though you could change your avatar and just be the next Doctor after a mistake like that.......

Lots of people are asking for more INV space, but you also need to look at how you use yours. I have pets, and pets, a few kits, 3 levels of items (a bit more) used in personal Inv. I always have room (but want more).

    Pro Tips
    • Unused ships can hold ship related gear.
    • Unused BOFFs can hold ground gear.
    • Stop saving TRIBBLE unless you want to make the space to use it.

I agree, especially since it was established that the Horta is not a beast, but a sentient non-humanoid being.

Putting one in as a "pet" smacks of slavery to me.

I was thinking that, but you articulated it far better than me.

I still enjoy having a mini pizza the hut following me around. I just wish he would stop standing on my feet, my crew is getting tired of replicating me new boots.

I just rationalize him as a 'scout' for that family of hortas. He wants to see what us starfleet types are up to, so he follows us around not really doing anything but observing.

How are the Horta "thrown in"? The last time we saw the Horta was on a Federation mining colony. Now when we visit a Romulan mining colony, what do we find? Horta. Horta that are doing exactly what they were in the TOS episode, except they learned how to write. That's a tribute, not "thrown in" or "forced".

As to the "slavery" thing, they're children. Maybe the Mother Horta decided we'd make good babysitters. Have you ever seen a little kid with a babysitter? They follow them around like a pet. That's not slavery. :p
