The little Horta makes a great portable lean mean cooking machine, fry some tasty eggs or bacon on him on your long away missions.

I, for one, think it's great.

And for those worried about enslaving the horta, mine can leave anytime he wants, but he doesn't cuz he loves me :D

But on the whole "slavery" and "It's sentient" thing, it's true it's sentient, but I just say it's a young horta who is a new crew member on my ship.

Exactly - it's a non-combat "BO" Starfleet cadet/junior officer! This is SO Trekkie! I love it.

I agree, especially since it was established that the Horta is not a beast, but a sentient non-humanoid being.

Putting one in as a "pet" smacks of slavery to me.

And who's to say that this little sentient being isn't following you along so it can burrow in strange new worlds and discover tantalizing mineral compositions?

Just because it sits in your inventory doesn't mean it can't be your buddy. At the end of the ToS episode, they seemed to be getting along just fine with the miners.

    Introducing...

...CAPTAIN TREK, and his faithful sidekick, ROCK-BOY!!

    Hey,

so normally i don't like puppy pets and cute stuff like that... BUT...

The Horta Hatchling is great. This... THIS is a cool pet. Also like the sounds it does. Would be cool if it grows up... :D

Also everyone got the Horta accolade ? - Great episode. :)

There are no paladins in Star Trek though... so really it's just a +2 longsword. :(

    I'm fine with it...

... except, it's kinda loud. When I was in the Admiral's office a sea of hortas was all I could hear. With a give-away pet that might need to be toned down. Seems louder than old school Champion's Jet Boots and those got the aural nerf-bat (much to my chagrin).

I don;t mind it but having grown up on the novels with Ensign Naraht, I;d rather see it as a BOFF than a pet.

I love the horta pet! may be sentient but i'm just imagining it being a baby horta that needs taking care of or something, and maybe it *wants* to accompany me to strange new worlds :D! :D

Yeah! That's the stuff, it is a hatchling after all, someone needs to take care of it.

    The new episode was brilliant.

I agree it would have been good to see a none pet item however I'm thinking you never had time to create one by looking at this episode.

That is what players need to realise. I complained about the pet before I even done the mission but once the mission was done, hell I would be happy with just some EC for that episode.

On that note I would pay 25% more on my subscription to get more episodes like that and the occasional STF with cut scenes and bit of voice. I'm serious.

Enjoyed the mission, reward doesn't interest me. Good to see people enjoying there's though as i understand every single reward will never be for everyone. Next weeks episode should be interesting.

Ok, so I just logged back in after a Loading Everything Into The New Computer Break. Which followed the Kicking The Old Computer Down The Hillside Break.

Horta pet? My inner TOS geek could only be happier if he were rolling around in green girls, with a couple blues thrown ni. Yeah, I want to have a horta BOff and a playable race too... but even just a pet is just great. I'm loving it, what with my retro uniform and old school phaser rifle. Now if only those old blue phasers scaled up well enough that I never, ever needed to upgrade them...

Awesome addition, Zinc & Co. I'm gonna get on the stick and go get me one tonight.

This was my first thought... then I decided it really wasn't a pet but a young Horta wanting to tag along with me to learn about the Universe. Horta are extremely intelligent, grow fast, leave home early, and our devourers of information. Makes sense one would want to tag along with a Starfleet Captain to see what all the fuss is about.

I liked the mission. Although I can say i was a little dissapointed with the reward, i could say the same with a couple of the others from the previus weekly series. Snow tubers come to mind. The Horta is cute, but so is the sehlat cub, the targ pup, and the slew of tribbles I already have. I think they get neglected too, I hardly ever use em.

I'd personally like it if they stayed active when you had them on you or if we had a dedicated pet slot where we could place it and forget it, autoactivating it whenever it can be used.

Seriously Cryptic, what's with all these pet rewards? Don't get me wrong, i loved the Mine Enemy mission but i was hoping for a better reward than just another thing that follows me around. We've got enough pets now to start up an intergalatic zoo...what is this Star Trek Online or Farmvile? May i suggest a Thaleron Tribble or my own little Thaleron generator as a reward or maybe a unique romulan BO? Thanks

Odd, i saw two other rewards on my screen, i wasn't FORCED to take the horta. Please, stop with the whine, the horta is a fun gimme from the dev's its TONS better than a grief grenade.

    Really.
If Cryptic had put this up in the C-Store they could've made a killing. I bet pretty much any fan of TOS would have bought this. Thanks for making it a free mission reward perk!

Though I know what the Horta is, and am old enough to have a good understanding of why some view it as awesome, it's not something that I value and something that made me feel fuzzy in the inside when I saw it (or the Horta in the mission). I just tohught they were well done and that was it.

I don't have a gripe against the reward itself, save that I found it rather annoying to have half-a-adozen hrta hatchings camping around T'nae's office when I came and tried to start the mission - the ambient sound from the Hortas competed with T'Nae's voiceover and at the time annoyed me.

My reward for this weekend was the featured episode itself. I felt it was a nice story to tell. I enjoyed the cutscenes. I'm looking forward to the next part - and if the next part has even better reward loot, well, so much the better!
