I want to try this game out. Anyone have a spare buddy key?

Still playing STO and my computer isn't broken now but I'd like to try out DCUO anyways. I'll still be subscribing to STO (so don't fear this thread devs, you won't lose me :p ).

Honestly, save yourself the time. It's enjoyable enough for a week or so, but then you've maxed out your characters and there's nothing to do. The game will probably be amazing in a year or two, but right now, I wouldn't say it was worth the time.

I'm not aware of DCUO having a Buddy Key program. There was something like that from the PC beta for getting people to try the PS3 beta, but that was mostly in anticipation that not all the PC beta testers had a PS3.

I don't know if your forum name is any indication (Hal Jordan/Green Lantern being the evil Parallax for a while) but, if you're a DC fan and you can afford the box and a month's sub then try it out. You'll get 30 days free too. Granted, it's fresh out of beta and still kind of raw but, it's playable. And they have a new Catwoman raid coming out this month.

    DCUO is a fantastic game!

New content (free content) is being added at the end of the month involving new Catwoman missions and more endgame content with Brainiac and Brother eye.

I bought the lifetime to STO so I could afford both because I love them both. Think of the launch content we got with STO, for some time we were asking "What Next" and much the same with any MMO. Get the game now if you, like me, love the DC Universe and its characters or wait a few months if its content your after

This is about DCUO, not STO. Oh wait you said you can max your character in week it was more like 3 days in STO, longer if you were Klingon. PVE is soooo easy. Other then that, DCUO is a fun game with a lot more content then STO had at launch. It is also far superior to CoH/CoV and CO. Biggest gripe the game was coded to work well with PS3 so things we take for granted like chat systems and stuff are underpar.

The game would be a great single player game. Problem is, it's an MMO. Really seems like the developers were making a single player game and then 90% of the way through somebody told them it was going to be an MMO. So they slapped on the absolute worst chat system I have ever seen, along with one of the worst grouping systems I have seen, and called it a game.

As a single player game, I give it a 7.5/10. As a multiplayer game it gets a 3/10.

    Read more here.

If the grouping and chat issues would be fixed...and more content added...then it would be good.

For now if you want to play a superhero game, I recommend Champions. It did just go free to play for the basic stuff.

My only criticism of the game, is there isnt much in the way of customisation. IMO STO is still THE best for custom designed characters

    That said

I have never found a problem with Chat (or the in game Chat system :p), seriosuly though. Punch enter and type /g for group /s for a shout and /t for a private tell. For the grouping, hit 'O' and click who you want to team with and invite to team. People complain about it, but I kinda like it now that Im used to it

In time, I think the whole system will become mroe streamlined;)

Reminds me of a line from "The Incredibles" - "And when everyone's super, no one will be."

    Getting a group isn't hard.

Where the problem is, is in doing something with said group. Let's say Player A is level 16 and player B is 15. Player B has mission X, but Player A did that one last night. Can player B share mission X with A so A can get some xp? Not that I had found. So what reason does player A have to hang out with B? Well A can get like 5 xp per kill. Yep. Fast going there.

So unless 2 guys have the same mission, which means they have the same mentor and same level, there is no point in grouping unless you are after a bounty.

As for leveling speed, you can hit 30 in about 24 hours of play time. So maybe you are supposed to group up to pad that time a little...

A single Buddy Key is inside each physical copy of the game. It's not included in digital copies.

Listen to The Empress and Flasherman. . .

Besides I'm sure when the subs drop off sharply after a month or two they will offer up a free demo. It sounds like the way it's headed anyhow. Of course it's DC, which has a pretty big following. . . much like Star Trek and they did have free demos for STO a couple months after launch I think.

If you're that impatient though, you'll probably just have to buy the game, because most people will have given out their Buddy Keys by now. My advice go take a look on Amazon.com you might find it cheap there.

    Still so glad I didn't get that DCUO pre-order. . .

Yes, a buddy key came in the box.

    1. Gave my buddy key to a RL friend
    2. Said friend agrees it would have been a great single player game, but is a pretty poor MMO PC game.

My advice is to wait a few months. Maybe by then they will have the chat and group issues worked out. Even if they don't, they will have some free trials out there.

I am pretty much bored with DCUO right now. I bought it for the PS3 and got a character up to lvl 22 quickly. I am on a PvE server as well and haven't done any PvP yet. I've been invited to groups a couple times and have done some of the Wanted missions but that's about it.

My character may look cool but I don't log in just to look at it :D

My character looks cool too, especially now that I have Raven's Hood (lucky drop from fighting Raven, had some awesome stat bonuses and most importantly let me get her awesome hood). I just wish I could do some body customization.

And I wish they had more skirt options.

And I wish they had more female hair options. I mean the guys had more hair options then the females. And as any fashion conscious person knows, this is tantamount to heresy.

Actually that does look pretty good Raven.

Of course Raven (the DC character) is one of my more favorites of the DC universe.

Still not fond of the idea of equipment drops for superheroes though.

The character creation sucks compared to Cryptic's Champions Online apparently.

This. Fewer powers, fewer costumes, fewer changes of scenery compared to even launch CO. Toss on the interface issues and it made CO look more attractive for reappraisal.

However, let me dig around and see if I have a buddy key for DCUO. My tastes might be different from yours and you might really love DCUO, even if I didn't.

That works perfect Raven! I also thought the 3 static small, normal, large body types were lacking. No amount of skin changing options help :)

Sadly, I got a Digital Copy, and am unable to give out buddy keys =/

However, I've managed to build a character that is ridiculously similar to my Champions Online build and...well...it pretty much plays the same (and still controllable with the XBOX 360 controller, to boot!). Only real difference is that its graphics...they're spectacular. However, the customization is pathetic compared to Champions.

...but DCUO gets bonus points for having most of the voice cast of Batman TAS and Superman: Doomsday in it, including Mark Hamill and James Marsters.

They haven't emailed me with mine yet.

Granted, this is SOE tech support, so, outside of chat, they don't do anything.
