    Hahaha. :p

Just a serious addition that I don't neccesarily want to 'tear down the sector space walls' (although if possible, that would be nice), but am more interested in the option to travel from our interiors at warp speed to any known location.

I remember this being brought up a while ago, and in order for the ship to be at a new location while you're inside it, there would need to be a dummy ship in sector space. That introduces other problems like DSEs and other contacts and how they would work.

DSE's have been declared on the way out. So maybe the dummy ship method is more viable.

I am so THRILLED that DSE's are being eliminated. I hated them to death and they were nothing but tedium.

well as some1 posted before on the forums. the ability to click on a certain system on your screen instead of on your map only would also be nice. or being able to view and select systems in sector blocks you are NOT currently traveling and being able to fly there automaticly would also help. :) o well.

I made Spaceball 1 from the film of the same name. It went to light-speed when you pressed a button on board. Then you could look out of side windows and see it traveling at warp..... I mean Ludicrous speed :D

Without a tech chage - the ONNLY thing you eliminate in your idea as typed here would be the "traffic controller" dialogs - you'd still have a loading screen popup everytime you crossed a sector "wall", regardless. In some ways, that would break immersion even worse - not expecting the loading screens.

Not sure that would actually be 'worse' than it is now. I'd certainly prefer it, and bit by bit as we eliminate those loading screens we make a truly immersive world.

Imagine if the ONLY time you had to enter a loading screen was beaming our of or into your ship? That would be fabulous and should be our goal.

Let's get the toggle to jump from interior to exterior of your ship while traveling sector space as a start. The best of both worlds, as it were.

This is already stated as hinging on tech to remove barriers in sectorblocks.

Mr. Dstahl needs to tear down those walls.

*conjures up his best Ronald Reagan impression* " Mr. Dstahl.........tear down those walls"

    mmm so

    1:
while in sector space you choose a destination
2: it changes to your bridge with an animated view screen on your bridge going to warp and shows the usual effect on the view screen.
3: if and when a sector change occurs you get a message pop up such as message from a BO saying your changing sector(as there apparently needs to be a transition) this could be a full screen as usual telling you about the new sector with a nice piccy.
4: spawn outside the planet in sector space when the "timer" is reached

now all that happened there was a map change from sector to the bridge then map change back to sector.

so....no need for a placeholder in sector space .

    Timer

A calculation between the 1st map (sector space location A) and last map (sector space location B) could work out a time for that "travel" and delay the "bridge+viewscreen animation map" and the final spawn in sector space map.

sol to vulcan 30 seconds of bridge/viewscreen map
sol to btran 90 seconds of bridge/viewscreen map and so on and so on.

yes it would be nice to see a proper warp, be able to sit in my command chair while waiting plus i want my ship to feel like starfleet command where I can see where I'm going within the ship, setting course to where I want while switching between in/outside ship views

also i do wish they would get rid of the barriers :(

Off-topic. For some reason, I could never really get into Beavis and Butthead. I do like King of the Hill though, it's one of my favorite shows.

one of my favorite scenes in the new Star Trek is when they arrive at Vulcan. The view screen shows the warp effect and then BAM! they are there. Instantly the planets and chaos is in front of them. I want this experience in sto badly.

Yeah, at the very least getting viewscreens working is a must. Our viewscreen should reflect where we are: see ESD or DS9 when at those stations, the planet you are orbiting, etc.

I also wish we could move communications to the viewscreen.

I always wondered about the missing warp options. Just be sure to have the option to go one unit faster than max just in case the player gets into a sticky situation.

I love how one the recent interviews had as its illustration a STO captain sitting in her chair, hand in air and declaring "Engage!"

Yeah, that is indeed what Star Trek is. Not STO at the moment, sadly.

Well most people aren't going to see the streaks as being "photons entering the warp field", they are going to think they are stars. Rightly so, as the Movies, and TV shows didn't really help train the masses on what those streaks are supposed to be.

    Regardless,

My comment (which I believe sparked your post) was actually regarding the Stars, the defined dots that slowly go by your ship when at warp, not the streaks.

If we start getting too picky, then we'll have threads titled: There is no sound in space! Plz remove all SFX from non-ground combat screens. :D

I do not feel we have WARP SPEED in Star Trek Online, and it just isn't 'Star Trek' without the ability to go to warp.

Yes, we have many (too many) moments of seeing our ship warp out, but then we are just on another screen, floating aimlessly or slowly spluttering through Sector Space.

I would like to propose the ability to:

    A) Set a course with our helmsman for ANYWHERE in the entire galaxy, select a warp speed, and ENGAGE! Depending on what system we have selected relative to our current location, and what speed we have chosen to get there, we then sit back and wait to arrive.

    B) The ability to TOGGLE between Sector SPace and our ship's interior while we are traveling AT WARP to our destination. As more functions are (hopefully) added to interiors, as well as more customization efforts, we should be able to toggle between an exterior view of our ship where we can take direct control over its immediate direction, or to be within our bridge/ready room/lounge/etc. while we travel across what is perhaps several sectors.

The DEVs have recently said that they are removing enemy signal contacts from Sector Space (thank GOD! A+ move, Devs!) and thus there is less reason to be constantly guiding our ship through a sector.

Adding the effect of stars moving at warp to our viewscreen while at warp, as well as out our ship's windows would be amazing as far as immersion is concerned.

We can also play around with the idea of faster travel VS. cost of faster travel. Perhaps things like transwarp and slipstream drives can be looked at, and players can decide whether they want to get to their destination faster at some kind of an energy cost, versus slow and steady at no cost.

I especially would like to see the ability to set a course for somewhere a few sectors away, and pay for the convenience of not having to be glued to the keyboard to confirm sector changes with the fact that maybe it takes a lot longer to get there.

Some of this can also be tied into the new crew system in terms of engineering team members effecting warp speed and cost. We can even add the idea of different warp cores which are dragged and dropped much like engines are now.

More than anything, I'd like to see that toggle between sector space and our interiors, and the ability to just tell your helmsman where it is you want to go and lay in a course at warp speed.

    Thoughts? Suggestions?
All are great suggestions, I'm all for it.

I don't know if this fits in this thread but instead of starting a new one i would like to add my suggestions.

Ship interiors need seriously some real purposes. I mean watch the shows, how much screen time do we get to see the ship form outside?

Yesterday i was visiting my ship interior. When i was sitting in the captains chair, i noticed that there is something basic wrong with the concept of the game.
Can you imagine how awesome it would be if we could just sit into the Captains chair of our ships , plot a course and hit "engage"?

I say let us instead plot a curse via the bridge, like in the shows and remove Sector Space Completely, no one wants it, no one needs it.
Sector Space as it is now is just a big game distraction, is it supposed to be a view from Stellar cartography (why cant i visit stellar cartography on my ship) or is it supposed to be a real view of our ship while at warp (and if thats the case why is my ship nearly as long as a stellar system in diameter?)

By removing sector space completly and replacing it with a in game 3D map, the game would get several advantages:

    - We could get a "real" map of the Galaxy (better said a small part of it). This map could be expanded nearly indefinitely.

    - Real exploration of the galaxy, not only fixed sectors.

    - The Galaxy map could be in real 3D !

    - Less loadingscreens between sectors, no annoying traffic controllers and thus much smoother gameplay.

    - No more sector space shoebox feeling. (I hate the X- series for that.)

    - The Game would feel much more "Star Trek" and much less generic.

    - Pure awesomeness: Sitting in the Captains Chair and saying "Engage" is one of the most trekkish things. Followed by a small in game cutscene where the ship jumps to warp would be more than awesome (maybe with a toggle to turn it off or make it random).

    - The bridge would be the "brain" of your Starship, where decision making takes place (at least navigation).

    - Let us define what each bridge station does and place our BOs according to their BO station on the ship screen.

    - For piloting the ship outside Warp speed or in battle, switch to normal ship view (view from outside like we have it already)

Just to make something clear, i do not want steer the ship inside of star systems or in battle via the Bridge, that would be just impractical.

What do you think about this?

I hope my writings are understandable, english is not my native language.
    Thank you for reading.

    Nope.

While many people loved that game and would like to have seen STO more like it, THIS THREAD is asking to be able to travel through sector space while walking around your interior.

To sit in your captain's chair, select a destination, engage and then get up and walk around while your ship flies there.

This thread is asking for a TOGGLE that let's you either travel through sector space as it is now, or visit your bridge and walk around your interior WHILE YOUR SHIP IS STILL FLYING TO ITS DESTINATION.

This is not a "ZOMG! Bridge Commander! I Wantz" thread. K, thnx. :p

Yep I want something just like this!

When I transport to my ship (transporter pad) I want to have icons on my HUD for my bridge crew. By clicking on them I can bring up windows, one could be a destination map from my helmsman. Set destination and a timer counts down (time depends on distance) but while I wait for my ship to travel, I can do random things on my ship.

I would also like random missions to pop up while traveling, things like dstress calls, random anomaly to research or even a random first contact.
