Problem with graphics around cursor

Hi there - I just started with STO and I'm having an issue.

There appears to be a square area around my cursor pointer that makes the graphics go all weird - it retains images and causes double images of the graphics as well as wavering - it appears most readily when I hover over PCs / NPCs or clickable objects as well as the controls.

You can see what I mean from the screen shot I took which is on picassa:

I'm running the latest version of the drivers for my graphics - nVidia GeForce 9800 GT
I'm running the latest version of Direct X 9.0c

I've already sent a request to have a ticket opened, but I was hoping someone here might help get me going quicker? I've looked for the resolution to this problem in the forums and all I've been able to find is similar but not the same problems.

Any help is much appreciated.

The DXDiag is too long to post but available upon request.

You may want to try totally removing your old video drivers using Guru3D from the following location: http://www.guru3d.com/category/driversweeper/

Following this, reinstall your nVidia drivers with the latest available for your card at: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

A good cleanup/tuneup with CCleaner is also a great idea for any PC issues: http://download.cnet.com/ccleaner/?tag=mncol;1

If all else fails, you may want to consider completely deleting and reloading STO from scratch. Yes, this is an ~11GB download and is best done overnight, but desperate times can lead to desperate measures.

Then reboot, repent, reload and pray! :)

I tried using guru3d to strip my drivers and reinstalled my video driver with the newest version from nvidia, and I run CCleaner all the time and did so again after stripping / reinstalling.

    No luck.

I have no idea what re-downloading STO could possibly do to fix this.
