STO Anniversary "Fleet March" Tradition for "Fleet Week"

In another thread, I was asking, what special stuff was going on for the anniversary. Everyone said the anniversary "celebration" was just a whole week, with no defined time of any particular activity. That saddened me a bit. I wanted to show up, and see some sort of show. But obviously everyone is on at different times. So, what sort of celebration could we do that indicates an anniversary, but could happen at any time during the anniversary days? Then I asked myself, well, what do I WANT to see? Then a funny idea hit me...

A Fleet March! Think of a marching band on parade route. Your Fleet decides what time to assemble on earth spacedock for your fleet's march. Then, lets say you line up, 4-5 wide, and however deep, in a uniform motion like a marching band. Lets say you start at the transporter pads, and walk toward Club 47, and complete a full lap around the outer ring of the base. At each main room, your fleet stops, and does some sort of little action in unison, maybe all turning left and right like soldiers, or all activating a certain emote simultaneously, then you keep walking until you come back around, and disperse back into the crowd. There could be fleets lined up one after the other like a boat parade. I say all this because Id love to be just standing at Club 47, watching fleet members walk by, showing off uniforms, etc. I think it would be a cool tradition to start, and it would happen on anniversary week every year, and its the STO version of "Fleet Week". Then, anytime you are on Earthspace dock that week, you never know when you'll be standing there, and a fleet starts their march. I think every fleet should march at least once during the week. What do you all think?

I guess this could ALSO be done with the actual ships too, fly in a parade route around the spacedock, or around earth, or around the moon, lol. Maybe your fleet does a march at all the main bases to hit all the ports of call, lol.

In theory, this would be awesome, to see fleet after fleet marching, then flying various formations. The ground part sounds especially good while I'm listening to something with a really strong beat. Lol.
Sadly, you can't actually walk or march in game... Which would ruin the whole event.

While we dont have a slow casual walk, it is possible to time the taps on the walk key to simulate a slower walk speed. Close up, it may look a tad odd, but viewing the members as a whole, it could look like it was more smooth. And even a brisk walking pace wouldnt be bad either. The talented Fleets COULD pull it off. And it would be funny to watch the ones who didnt practice totally TRIBBLE it up and crash into each other. Good for the lulz as well.

Its a shame we cant get the starships to bank left and right without actually turning. Obviously total barrel role control would be awesome. But with the mobility the ships DO have, I can think of some neat stuff to pull off.

Imagine this long line of ships parked in space, waiting "along the sidewalks" like they are getting ready to watch the Disneyland parade go by. There is some neat mass fleet formation and crowd fun we could be having, and all of us taking screenshots for the occasion to remember it by.

I dont want anniversary week to be meh. We are Trekkies, we can do better than that.

We of the Starfleet Defence force are making such a thing possible, our route will go around the ESD, and then go over to andoria for more outdoor marching ( or that was how it was last time I was online.)

So if other fleets want to join in the march, that would be sweet in the extream.:D

Will you be doing more than one show? I work Feb 2nd, and wont get home till evening. Im trying to get my clan interested. They seemed to like the idea. I hope whatever Fleets get involved or do something special, please post lots of screenshots here for those who will miss it.

Right there with ya. I'm gonna see if I can convince the Solar Storm Fleet to make an appearance at least one of the days. Just ned to talk to the Admiral. Being a commander means less power. But it would be cool to see what can be done. We do need to set up a staging area for where all the ships start.

This is Fleet Cpt Aiden of the 6th fleet, I'm sure I can get my people into an organized route, perhaps multiple fleets march together in ESD?

There is a setting in your Options: Keybinds tab for 'Walk".

Yeah, I didnt know about the walk button either. I didnt even have mine mapped right until last night. The walk speed is great for a Fleet March. Still a pinch fast, but much slower than the standard jog. And really, a Fleet should walk brickly anyways. I really hope a lot of fleets do this. My fleet prides itself on being laid back, and it didnt sound like any were interested, but I cant wait to see others try it.

There's a slash command you can do to set a key to a walk/run toggle, but I can't remember where on the forums I found it... I'll post it as soon as I find it again.

EDIT: Found it, it's "/bind [key] ++walk" where [key] is the keyboard key you want to bind. I have mine set to "T".

Here you go, a way to toggle it so you won't have to hold it down. It's still annoying and screws up the camera for me, though.

My fleet is gonna be mostly gone next month..... :(
Hort will be on Risa. :p
