  • I only briefly skimmed this thread past the first post but not only did I get a herc for things other than TT, but I never once solo farmed 3-X for anything. Infact, I detest the entire idea of solo farming TT and refuse to do it. The entire idea of a class action lawsuit because you can no longer do something in a game…
  • Roar is good for taking aggro back, not for holding it. As far as aggro is concerned on skills there's two parts that are combined for total aggro. First is skill use itself, and this is the majority of the aggro, the other part is the damage done. Icicle 2 or even Icicle 5 is weaker than two level 1 skills which would…
  • Because if you aren't investing in skills a volcanic magmite has two good aggro skills plus tough, a walker doesn't. That makes it more suited for tanking regular mobs.
  • Well, at 3 there's a pollen scorpion and at 10 there's a dark wanderer. You'll probably want one of those two. At 1 there's a Jaden Qingfu, that would last you until 17 when you can get a crystaline magmite (which I would recommend over a walker actually, unless you want to spend a lot of money reskilling pets), and…
  • Well, looks like the bug isn't that the range starts at 12 and never updates up to 25 like I was thinking it was, but rather that it always says 12 when it should say 25. I guess that eliminates the one potential reason to take tame above level 1.
  • I always thought Acephalid Riders looked cool, probably less so now due to dark wanderers being more or less the same idea.
  • Against pure physical the walker is about 10% better. Against pure magic the cub is about 12% better. Against mobs which do both (typically 80% melee 20% magic) the walker is about 6% better. The walker also has an advantage in damage output (aggro/kill speed)
  • The range stated ingame doesn't go up, this is a bug. The range of the ability itself does increase with each level, just like other skills... however you're not told that it does. Unfortunately all of my skills are leveled up so I'm somewhat limited in my ability to measure distance these days, however I do still have two…
  • No, it's a complete waste. I don't think you understand just how big the difference is. With herc buffs, a walker has 76% of the hp, takes 7% more damage (14% vs 13%) against physical, and 12.5% (18% vs 16%) more damage against magic. That means against physical damage it's 70.68% as good as a herc and against magical…
  • Causing a boss to switch targets resets the delay on their casting skills, so if a barb is interrupting they'll miss an ae. They'll also potentially miss one more getting the mob back onto them depending on their cooldowns. Simply having your pet stomped isn't a big deal, but you do damage to the squad (and potentially…
  • Some have it, but there's a pretty good reason why most don't. It's an overpriced inferior tank and even if you get the skills yourself it's not free. There's an opportunity cost on everything.
  • I'm not saying Zeal is bad, but personally I find it too slow. My zeal genie which I keep around for the occasional pull has 80 mag on it and it still can't keep up with a good paced group (and the groups I usually get are pickups at best so a good pace is substantially less than a group which functions well together). In…
  • Good info with the drake, but the first thing that comes to my mind is if it can be lured to the ground and it's something a nix can barely tank normally, you can probably run a heal/nuke hotkey and keep a herc up. Between the reflect and getting some nukes in (ironwood especially) you would probably be in better shape…
  • Go grind and stop using BH, you're even still in the level range where grinding provides tangible rewards besides simply teaching you how to play which you could probably stand to do anyways. Provided you're a build that does what a veno is supposed to do (kill stuff quickly) you should be able to kill 3 mobs a minute with…
  • You've got it backwards with the cactopods. The higher the tame level the further their attack range is and the faster they are. If you go with a level 4 cactopod all you have is a pet with an attack range of about 4m (pet melee is 2 or 2.5 m, I forget which offhand) and a pretty slow speed, you might as well go with a…
  • I give it to clerics after they BB provided they didn't BB in a bad spot (and they have time to get chi again afterwards). Most clerics overuse BB, but then again most players overuse clerics so I have a problem with blaming an over reliance of BB on clerics themselves. Before getting 99 that was pretty much all the sparks…
  • Thanks, it's not perfect though. Attack (so dps) is off a little. It's accurate to within 2% on every pet I've checked however. Other stats are off by up to 15 points or so. As far as comparing the differences between pets though, it's a great tool.
  • My spreadsheet lists all of this. Growth rates, tame levels, pet families, starting skills, approximate dps unskilled, approximate dps with skills that come on each pet, stats at every level. www.evilgamer.net/utilities/petstats.xls
  • Here's what it comes down to really, and hopefully this is slightly more informative than faster vs harder hits. A Dark Wanderer has better base damage output, the reason is because it appears to be a 7 on the growth chart although its chart only says it's a 6 (the chart being wrong isn't an isolated incident, so this is…
  • I went Inamorato. My reasoning is, we figured out a long time ago that the tame level of a pet determines how long its range attack is, a higher tame level is also faster. The two main draws of an Eden cactopod are speed and range for a good puller. So, I went with the higher level one. In reality the difference between…
  • Buffs work off of the base rate, you don't get base*fox form*cleric buff*bm buff, you get base+base*fox+base*cleric+base*bm. I'm assuming debuffs would work the same way.
  • I thought each one removes from the base so base-55% and base-40%, which would leave you with 15% left. Buffs would add base*buff amount too though. Remember, what we have just affects the base amount so to actually drop someone to 0 physical def they would need to be purged to get rid of buffs too (and even then, not have…
  • I don't think melee mastery is bad for arcanes actually. 20% of the time an arcane should be in fox because of amp cycles. During fox there's time to fire off two skills before amp, which means your physical attack is being put to use. Because of that, I see melee mastery as a skill to squeeze out every bit of damage…
  • I agree with you completely. As far as the fun I had playing the game goes, I got far more enjoyment out of a tome than out of a legendary pet even. I didn't get my tome until the low-mid 60's, had I known what a difference it would make, I probably would have bought the gold to get one much earlier. It really does change…
  • The coin that blazing costs isn't really a factor, coin comes quicker than spirit and there's more worthwhile things to spend your spirit on. On top of that, the fact that so much of its damage comes from a long duration dot, means you're only going to get value out of it on bosses. On top of that, the dot isn't boosted by…
  • Pet food quickly gets cheaper. One of the early quests gives you a lot of pure water which helps a ton at the level you get it. By the time it runs out you'll be around level 20 and more able to afford it. For me, after I burned through the free water I spent what was a lot of money to me buying water again around level…
  • Weird, thought I posted in here but I don't see the post, anyways... Like others have said, blazing at level 1 is a good idea because it's a cheap source of chi. Frost isn't worth the chi it costs
  • Whichever you decide, keep the walker. You can't use the piggy indoors.
  • Good players with bad builds are still good. Good players with good builds are great. You don't typically see a good player with a bad build though because one of the marks of a good player is having a good build. That doesn't necessarily mean a conventional build though. Some of the conventional builds are rather bad (vit…
  • Turtles have the best growth rate of water pets. Finned Undines are 2 Legged Undines are 3 (my spreadsheet incorrectly states 4) Mermaids are 2 Arrowfish is 3 Turtles are 4 Plumpfish is 3 The only advantage non turtles sometimes have is debuffs until you get up to the plumpfish which have the advantage of being leveled.
