The Lag is Real.

This lag has been happening for over a week now and nothing has been done... Idk if anything has been said because I'm to lazy to read through all these recent posts of errors connecting and lag and servers down ect... but from the looks of it there hasn't even been an official announcement of anything being done or if the staff is even aware of it yet... It's a bit spotty as I can get on at various points of the day and be lag free but others my ping is well around 30,000 for about 5 minutes before it either kicks me off or allows me to play for a few moments then lags again...

yes its actually been going on for about 3 months, unfornately people have been trying to hide the issue and make excuses thats why it hasnt been addressed. but its definately not your computer or your connection. it doesnt effect everyone and as you said its spotty happens everyday around peek times and has been really bad this week, whether its a regional router or a problem with the servers being overloaded it is something PWI needs to look into been saying that for 3 months but unfornately Sylv and others have done their best to bury the issue and make excuses. If its a regional router PWI pays them and is the one to have the power to get them to fix it (its been 3 months bout time somebody fixed it). If they dont address it or look into it their wont be a game too much longer because the game is unplayable for 10% of your playerbase. if I didnt have 5 years invested in this game i wouldnt be here and I can imagine any players who invested less time than that certain wont stick around in hopes that the problem will be fixed at some point. Me personaly I have Version FIOS internet its super fast never goes out no matter the weather condition and gives me perfect internet 24 hours day so to deal with PWI when my internet is perfect and I could be playing any other game flawlessly is ridiculous and for you tech noobs out there theres nothing on my computer causing the lag the game works fine until those peek hours and has worked fine in the past 4 years and 10% of pwi population is having the same exact problem at the same exact time. so either look into it PWI or do nothing your choice. For me I just been playing another game during those peek hours and still manage to get my dailies done at night or deal with lag and freezes in day. but getting pretty tired of it if it continues then i'm just gonna only log in and play NW on friday and sunday and thats my advice to those who are having the same issue just play NW and play another game instead of fighting with lag everyday.0

I love the conspiracy theories around this and the "cover-ups"b:laugh
The exact same thing could be said about the people with lag saying "it could never be me, my computer, internet and route from me to PWE is absolutely perfect in every single way". Its all a cover-up.0 -
Of course the lag is real. It's always been real.
What you fail to understand is the source of the lag.

ya but when it isnt you and theirs nothing you can do about it thats just the way it is. And its not like GM would actually read these posts and care enough to look into it anyway not like their gonna make extra money if they find the problem. Thats why posting trace route etc isnt going to help theirs nothing you can do from your end to fix it, Its more than likely a regional router or a server problem that only effects random people and that being the case its something PWI has to look into, not something some Barny Fife forum troll tech noob is gonna fix.
As I said its not on my end when the lag happens my internet is fine super fast, i can do anything else go anywhere on internet with out any problems. Theres no new software antivirus or firewalls etc installed that would be getting in the way. and if that was the case it wouldnt only be happening during peek hours.. it wouldnt be lag free at night and then everyday have lag in day time. The lag problem only occurs when the server is most active during the day time which also the time the regional router would be most active as well peek hours 2pm-9pm and if it was just my computer or my conection etc it wouldnt be this widespread problem where 10% of the population is dealing with identical lag spikes just during those identical times. I'm not mickey mouse internet user who just installed a firewall and cant play the game... been playing for 5 years my computer is virus free and has its registry cleaned weekly and only possible thing that changes on my computer is windows updates if one of those were to be creating a problem again it wouldnt just affect me during peek hours it would be more common.0 -

OK, now Here's the colors.....
Home Modem
My ISP/Local Regional HUB
THE INTERNET HUBS
PWE's ISP
Servers *Not really the server, but it's as far as you're getting inside PWE.
Now, if I didn't have fiber, then there would be another hop in between 1 and 2, but since I have fiber, it bypasses the CO by my house completely and goes straight to the regional hub.
See all those RED hops? Each one of those is a possible point of failure that neither you, nor PWE have any control over.
In my particular route, ops 5 and 6 have most commonly been an issue lately. 6 is the International HUB in Los Angeles, which has been having many load issues as a result of problems in their infrastructure; which is due to environmental conditions for several weeks now.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

How exactly do I do one of these tracert things... the post Sylen posted doesn't exactly say how..0 -
Odin,

Otherwise, Sylven a lot of what you say makes sense, but PWI specifically lags for me. I have 85mb/s up and down internet and I disconnect from this game. My specs are better than average. Sometimes its more than a basic fix. I, personally, seem to have a routing issue which seems very common with Verizon FiOS and this game.0 -

Alot of time outs... And none of them seam to be the target IP I entered..
And unfortunately this is with Verizon Fios... I can't say I like Fios either as I've been having alot of issues with it... But I know thats not the current cause for this lag because I don't lag with anything else... Then again I guess as this whole thing works.. It could be Verizon's connection to the various access points leading to the servers...0 -
I lagged once then I got high.0

For starters, completely power down your modem for a minimum of 3 minutes. This should reset the connection with the CO and may get you a better route.
If you're still getting the occasional high ping on hop 2, then you definitely need to call Verizon and have them run some line tests. Most commonly it's an issue with the connection in your house, but could be at the pole also.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
Well it may have been that high due to the fact I was running a virus scan on my computer which used alot of resources... As for my router... I normally reset it once a day leaving it unplugged for about 30sec+ at a time because it tends to go out frequently... I've been asking someone to call Verizon due to this but... They don't seam to care that much to do so... I unfortunately can't exactly call them due to the service is not in my name... I just have the router on my desk because I use the internet most and can keep better track of it's outages...
As for another test I just ran its...

But in all seriousness like Slyn said before, it's not always you and it's not always pwi. There was one time in lost city right before a tiger event the whole server dced twice and then finally dced for a couple hours causing us to miss the event. It's not predicatable like the server main is. It's simply something you have to either A. deal with or B. Not play. possibley a c. fixing it if possible.
Dont worry I qqed in the forum for days. Most of us have been there. Here's my wall of dc's all taken in the time span of three days. I have a bigger one for my desktop wallpaper with all 72 screen caps.

Well from a few skype convos I've been talking about this subject... between me and about 15 people all use Verizon and are having issues...
this is one of there replies on the subject.
Anon:most of those international hubs, junctions, w/e u want to call it arent verizon owned
Anon: however, verizon is such a big company, they could use their influence to get that fixed
Anon: only if enough ppl complain
Anon: I just went to the verizon website, logged in, and used live chat about 20 min ago
Anon: they reset my ip address and other basic ****
Anon: and its getting escalated to their network team apparently
Anon: You may not have the time, but doing as I did, would help our cause
Now I'm not really pointing fingers as I don't really understand all this completely...
However it would be nice if an Admin or someone with proper control over the connections could clarify on whats going on... But then again that happening at this hour might not happen...0 -
it not just Version I had same problem with DSL before I moved NW pretty much unplayable right now 30k lag spikes the problem needs to be looked into by pwi its been on going for 3 months and its not on my end ppl can speculate the problem all they want but until the issue is looked into by PWI well never know the real reason0

If you're going to reset the device, shut it off for a minimum of 1 minute. If you want to reset the connection at the Central Office, then do it for 3 minutes and you might get lucky with a new port when you re-connect.
Looks like your issue is most definitely the modem though.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

Lol wut. You do realize what a ping is right? It sends a packet to a set node and waits for a response. It isn't UDP, it doesn't just broadcast out packets not caring about a response. Ping is a way to test the connection between two nodes (meaning both directions, not just one). If some router along the way is dropping packets and it isn't owned/maintained by pwi, then it isn't their fault.
