How does Blood of the NightShade passive work?

Hi so I did some testing and I'm unsure on how the passive skill for the Strombringer works. I was fighting Cougaret Master at Arms, http://www.pwdatabase.com/pwi/mob/7057 , and it's listed phy attack is 602 - 735. I have 4020 p def = 54.07% reduction, 15 warding level = 14% reduction, which results in

602*.4593*.86 - 735*.4593*.86 = 238 - 290.

Now with my squad buff (-20% damage from melee attacks, Lunar Guidance) the damage should be 190 - 232.

And finally my passive Blood of the NightShade gives 60% reduction from melee attacks (also 23% reduction from skill damage) which results in 76 - 93

Now the problem is without Lunar Guidance on I'm taking 200- 234 damage per shot, and with it on I'm taking 165 - 190 per shot, so it seems that my squad buff is working but something is wrong with my passive's description. So how does this passive work? Also I'm level 86 at the moment if that helps.
full +12 SB, currently lv 105 105 105

the classes are probably too new for anyone to do an extensive and proper test on them yet.

i play duskblade and havent really noticed any difference with thier passive because i'm mostly fighting melee mobs and...well dusks don't really have any ranged skills except thier sleep and a wierd DoT

Try calculating all buffs as only working on base defensive values instead of being cumulative. Example:Base + [(base x buff)+(base x buff)+(base x buff)]. Also don't forget to take the level difference if any into account:

Edit: I could be wrong on how the formula works and if I am please post how it does work for future reference.

I thought about doing that math, but as pwdatabase is currently outdated I'm not sure mobs and bosses had adjustments. I kinda freaked when I saw a lv20 Qingfu.
