How you're naming your characters?

As the new classes are coming soon, inventing names for new characters becomes a hot topic for many.b:sweat

How do you come up with your character names? Do you perhaps create your character according to some detailed scheme or just give it first name popping up in your mind? Or maybe some variation of class name?b:cute

Kitty has a tendency to name her characters in her native language, usually including some pun or hidden meaning within.b:avoid

Sometimes Kitty takes influence from some song names, sometimes from characterics of the class. Many Kitty's characters are made according to some themes and she's named them according to those themes.b:cute
The upcoming classes Kitty's going to name with heavy influence from a certain band with affection towards scythes and reaper.

I usually name my char with whatever comes up in mind, but it has to be related if taken from known characters like for example Link from the Zelda game, for an archer or a BM, I won't name my barb with Link, it'd feel weird. b:chuckle , unless it's a random name that's totally unrelated or unknown but cool to me then I'll give it to any class that I want to play.

Now that the game is a few years old, most names that we come up with might already been taken. Naming rule is too strict here in PWI, we can't use numbers for variations, so it's quite limited. It's just a nickname, in a game, they should let it loose a bit imo.

Same way I always do. SOmething that sounds simple with a touch of fantasy and a slight foreign ring to it.

*selects Kitty's text so it's possible to read* Ah, now I can reply.

My names all start with Zent and I try to keep the second part somehow fitting to the class. For the wizard I took the number 3 (number of elements the class has), put it in german (drei) and fused with dragon. Dreigon.

The stormbringer was a challenge, but I think I came up with something fitting to the class description and history. Plus, I liked it. Other alts didn't have much though put on them though. b:chuckle

I also try to avoid upper i and lower L while making names, yet sometimes I make one I really like and have to secure the similar one in another account.

*selects Kitty's text so it's possible to read* Ah, now I can reply.

No offense to Kitty, but I have to do that too. Lol. b:surrender

As far as my characters, I'll name them, and why they got their meaning...

Most of my characters tend to have an "ity" at the end of it.

SerenityCNB: Elves, especially clerics are supposed to be Serene, and more peace oriented. Serenity was almost named Peace, but I decided to go with Serenity. The CNB tends to come with most of my characters for other reasons.

HarmonyCNB: As an untamed Venomancer that works together with pets, Venomancers tend to be harmonious with the land. So she became Harmony.

LongevityCNB: As an elf, she has lived a long time, plus archers have the longest overall consistent range, so Longevity is her name.

MiragalityCNB: As an old Seeker, she was created during the time when a seeker's buff cost mirages. She was made just to have a seeker, but I actually like playing her some....though she's still low leveled. Mirages are no longer needed for seekers now, but that was the reason for her name.

NaturalityCNB: As a mystic that summons plants and a member of the earthguard race, she is one with nature. So it is fitting that her name would be as such.

TranquiltyCNB: When I think of water, one of the characteristics I think of is that it is tranquil. Thus, as a tideborn, and already having a sin, her name became tranquiltyCNB.

SensualityCNB: Speaking of sins, this is mines. She became named Sensuality due to the way her body moves during character creation, in a bit of a sensual fashion. Kind of wish I had named her better, but meh. Plus, everyone and their dog has a sin with sin in the name. She was made during the nirvy days....too bad she never leveled up high. LOL.

LethalityCNB: As a barb, as a member of the untamed, and the dominant tank class, one must be lethal, and Lethality became his name. He's survived hits from level 90'ish mobs while being low leveled, (19's/20's) and he has ran the length of the map to boot, so his name, he has earned....even if he is a low leveled barb.

TheOldGuard: My other barb. A member of the untamed race, barbs are supposed to be tanks, and to help guard the other members of the tank, so he is The Old Guard.

My other 2 or 3 clerics are named after Serenity as a bank/catshop. Too bad they lag me. My other cleric was designed to be demon, since Serenity is sage....but....I never got around to it. LOL.

HumilityCNB: My blademaster: Named so to remind me to stay true to myself and to be humble. I was looking for a name with "ity" at first. She was named during a humbling experience in my life, where the wise words "Pride comes before the fall", holds true. I always thought that I was humble at first, but I learned then certain aspects of me needed more work, and so I learned to become more humble. (Never was egotistical. But no one is perfect, and there were some inner lessons that I had to learn to move on and become stronger as a person.) Humility is there to remind me of that fact. As a blademaster, Humility must understand that though she has a great many skills, she is not a master of every trait. Barbs are better tanks, Seekers are better AOE specialist. Venos have better debuffs. Sins have better debuffs. As a blademaster, she must remember this, and humble herself for what is in the best interest of the squad, instead of boosting her own ego.

SincerityCNB: Sincerity is designed with the "ity" in mind. A wizard should be sincere in their spellcasting, and their words should strike true...so too should their spells, and Sincerity has been named for that.

ArminArtlet: I think he's deleted now, and I'm not certain if I can name the anime he is from on the forums....so I won't....but if you know who this is.... I WANTED HIM TO DIE PAINFULLY. So me and my best friend got together, and I made him created. Armin was forced to run across the land, and never level past 1....he died a many many many times, as we laughed at each death.... If he's not deleted, I'm killing him again out of general principle. Oh, and his class is blademaster. The first mob I made him fight ever was either a boss, or a level 90's magic mob. b:laugh

Ummmm. If I have more alts, then their names I don't remember at this time.

I did consider changing Serenity's name to Ultima, due to having playing a certain FANTASY game again that has many FINAL games, but the time is a little past TWELVE where I live at, so I won't. But that boss seemed to be suitable for a cleric name. I'm not paying for a name change stone though, so Serenity she will stay.

*Some of my characters may have a "CB" in their name instead of "CNB", due to space requirements. I put CNB anyways, because that's what it should be.

*CNB is named for my characters for other reasons. ArminArtlet will not have CNB by his name ever....BECAUSE I HATE HIM as a warrior, and will not claim him.

If I have any other alts, and remember them, I'll post them. But that's how my alts got their names.

Not sure what I will name the new classes, but I have an idea for the Stormbringer, and even the Duskblade. We'll see if I can pull it off.

Not sure if I will continue the trend though. Apart from that I also called my venos foxu and foxumore to try to ensure peeple realised I was not female.

My main (mystic) is named after one of the noticeable woman in Ottoman History.
My cleric is named after one of my in-game friend's toon. I just replaced a letter in her nick with "k" and voila!
My psy is named after water theme. Lol. Tide+Nymphe(Nymph was taken).
My veno is named after a very minor character in A Song of Ice and Fire series. She's just an unimportant character that doesn't make any apperance and I chose her name because it filled the fox theme. (her noble house's sigil is a fox...so)
My wizzy is named after Korra from Legend of Korra. Korrasu. Su means water in Turkish and is a suffix for many girl names in my language. I'm that humorous lol.

Gonna name my stormbringer after either House Harlaw (a noble house from A Song of Ice and Fire series, and their sigil is a scythe lol) or it will be something Lovecraftian.

One method I use is that I pretty much just make anything up that sounds good and can be pronounced. It doesn't have to mean anything. Although sometimes......they often get misunderstood. Take "Asone" .....I've often had to correct people that its not made out of two words, it's often taken as "***" and "own" put together, but it's not....it's just a bunch of random words I typed in. Now I check to make sure random words I type don't look like that.b:surrender

I'll also take another method of using common Japanese everyday words. Like "daikon" (a type of radish) or "kipu" (ticket) and making them into names. Most people don't know what what everyday words mean in a different language so it's easy to make a name in a game this way.

Domethies was somthing that a friend came up for me, was supposedly a name of a greek warrior but i spelt it wrong. It should be said that i heavily lack creativity when it comes to names so i have 3 characters named from final fantasy in general and 9 and 10 more specifically, whitemage, KujaUltima and Tidus. And then i have Thebatman as Batman was taken and my cleric is called squadwiped as i feel like i make a terrible cleric.

As for the newer classes, im not sure what ill name them after, maybe more final fantasy related names. The scythe weliding class i might name after that pokemon scyther or whatever it was called not sure what id called the other one, maybe a variant of Gilgamesh

I normally think of an attribute I like and start google-ing for Latin/Celtic/ancient Greek translations then make a name up out of those words so like:

Moon Fairy - celestial / graceful

    Latin - graceful - decorous
    Latin - celestial - caelum
Celtic - Ceugant - upper world
Celtin - magh - realm of the upper world

So I might decide on Magelum which makes you also think' Mage'

That's how I do it anyway, good luck.

My older characters names were the typical random **** a lot of gamers give to their characters. But when the faction I was in for over 4 years collapsed I deleted all of my characters to get a fresh start. After that I started thinking and putting more thought towards my character's name and finally decided to use things from my favorite two cultures I like to read about. Sense then I started combining the names of greek gods and goddesses, or just greek words, and sometimes some Egyptian words or gods to give hints about my characters backstory and how my character acts when I rp.
The only exception is one character I have that is named after a **** star from a good ol bondage porno. *picks up my dvd* now if you will excuse me I got an educational video to watchb:avoid

I usually opt for usernames that fit the ambiance of the game I'm playing (eg. Chinese for PW), or if I can't think of anything, I resort to personal nicknames and my native tongue. I named the Wizard I took this name from - since my friend was going to be a Wizard also. We joined the day PWI opened and was able to get Ying and Yang.

Most often, I just try to stick with words most people don't normally use or .. think of using. I've got toons in another game named: Ode, Quote, Typo, Stabbity, etc.

For the new class - I honestly am not sure. I figure almost any name I make will be taken years prior.

Rayne is my Barbarian and a persona I developed for myself around 13 years ago. It's been a common title for characters in many games I play.

Amy is my Venomancer solely because I like the name.

My Cleric is named Fennik, which is an arbitrary name I give to elf characters in games.

My Archer is named Celes after my favorite character from Final Fantasy 6.

My Blademaster is named Rose after my favorite character from The Legend Of Dragoon.

My Wizard is named Saramis, which is an arbitrary semi-persona I give to wizard characters.

My Mystic is Shar, a female character named after a male sage from Final Fantasy Legend 3.
The name always felt more feminine to me.

My Seeker is Ihsahn, the stage name of the norwegian black metal musician Vegard Tveitan.

My Assassin is Silari, the same name as one of the antagonists from a video game I've been making with RPG Maker XP.

Most people know me as the Psychic Nietzsche, named after the German philosopher.
I have read most of his books more than once. :)

My Stormbringer I have decided to name Koudelka, after the main character of the horror RPG by the same name.

I've yet to find a name for my Dusk Blade.

Each character has a theme or persona attached to it and I really don't know what to make of that class yet.

Whenever I make a name for a toon, I make sure it suits the character's and class's nature and appearance, it may also have some influence to the history or basic charasteristics of the class.

Most of my toons have finnish names, since finnish is not much used so the names are usually free. Sadly other people find them hard to spell and pronounce (for example: Kuunvalkea.)

My main, Colum, was named after a certain book character. Colum is an Irish name and means dove which is quite suitable as I play a wolf barb (colors of these two animals fit).

In some more rare cases I have character names made out of... nothing, literally. Just a mix of letters that would look cool as a name.

Then I have few characters with english names, theme is usually rather dark or violent, sometimes with a slight pun included in it. My aps barb is named TearingPaws.

My Stormbringer will most likely have a finnish name but I'm not sure of my Duskblade yet.
