Bug/Scam?

So I was recently looking around the shops near the West Archosaur teleporter when I came across one particular shop that was titled "Free Money" by -lamescammer8762-.

Curious, I bought one of his items, which he was selling for 50,000.

He was buying back the same items for 100,000

However, when I went to sell the item back, I got a message saying "Service Unavailable"

So I'm just wondering if this is a bug/glitch, or if the player is just trying to scam people out of their coin? Or if this is no big deal and players are allowed to do underhanded things like this?

^ This. I would take those screenshots and report them.

I would also edit the names out of those screenshots for the forum, as naming ans shaming is against the rules, and I'e have to delete them from your post :/.

Sorry, didn't know it was against the rules to point out players that are scamming others..

Anyway, how would I go about reporting them?

Technically this is not a Bug/Glitch and the "scam" has been around since the first month I played (September 2008). Shops cannot buy things if their inventory is full, nor can they sell anything if they have 200m coins already (at least the Catshops cannot). That is by design, so this is not a glitch or bug.

The premise also requires that the "mark" be greedy, obviously trying to get something for nothing. Say for example the item being sold is a Pakua Stone (lvl 8 chi). These are rare enough as to be hard to find, but they only cost about 1200 coins to make. So, buying one for 50k is not something any reasonable shopper would do. Only by suggesting that you can instantly sell it back for 100k does the scammer create a market for the item, by making the mark believe they will get something for nothing.

When instead, they have lost 49k and are not able to make that back, nor the 50k they thought they would get for free, they cry foul! But really, that should just be a VERY CHEAP life lesson, and maybe they will remember that when some con artist tries to do the same thing to them for hundreds of REAL dollars with a "lost wallet" scam or any of the dozens of similar ways people try to cheat people in the real world.

I'm not saying don't ban the scammers; people should be at least warned that this is not acceptable behaviour within the PWI community. But at the same time, I cannot help but think this is a prime example of Caveat Emptor. And if someone does not know what that means, this would be a good time to find out.

    Good Luck!

    -snip-

The GMs have removed plenty of cat shops that did this over the years. It's pretty cut and dry against the rules. This isn't a case of caveat emptor because the seller used fraud to get the person to buy it. Caveat Emptor applies to things like that garbage (and shameful imo) arcane pet book that keeps your pets fed for 7 days. It does exactly what it says (even though it is a garbage choice for the job) and what it does is represented on the item itself. Although it's a terrible transaction and anyone who buys it has every right to feel ripped off when they discover the alternatives, the buyer should've known what they were getting. An item can do a cruddy job and a terrible purchase and still not be a scam.

In this case the person is deliberately tricking people by misrepresenting the transaction. They are using deception. Caveat Emptor implies no fraudulent methods to get the person to purchase the item were used. That's not the case here.

But you're forgetting about the quality of today's Support Staff. They'll likely just tell him to go post it in the Quality Corner forum and quit whining.

    Link

So what if we mail that thread to support, they will suggest to make a thread about it in the QC, so we can make a thread with a link to that thread. Continue that indefinitely.

People don't understand logic, and how the Real world works, i agree with this post, mainly because i believe that No matter what situation you're in, You must Help yourself to overcome it. GMs cant do everything for you And hold your hand. It's the same with the G16 rerolling scamers that steal G15 gear+eod/eoo. No gear handed over=No scam. No walking into a House a murder's=No murder for that individual.
