A place for a semi new player?

I have my 45 Barb parked in game (Archasuar if I remember right).
I was wondering how is the state of the game? I am a player that likes to take time, progress some what naturally (feel progression at least monthly, of doing something).
Lore, PvE (with danger of PvP...I think I was last on a PvP server).
I am not worried or have in mind a rush to end game to get the best gear and do all the dungeons. I would like to eventually, but not constantly etc...I read on the forums whem people ask the same question I am : "Should I Come back". The general response is "No, because 1) Economy is bad so cant get mats for 2) Armor, that is OP and no one doing runs to get it or 3) Community not doing groups and snooty, get in a magical "friendly" guild ASAP or prepare to have a bad time"....
But lets say my goal is not to set up kitty shops, run the best dungeon, and do group content daily. Can I Still do PvE to end game? IS the core "Quest, explore, progress" mmorpg element here in the game? IF so, I will happily re-install. If "No, you need X gear from X dungeon or you will not get past X part of the map". Then I Will avoid. I hate games whos progression stops because mobs hit to hard because you did not A) Cash shop a charm or Farm your F2P buns off in a dungeon.
Any help / response would be great! Thanks! I last played right before Sirens expansion BTW.

I'm usually one to recommend that you try it, and see how you like it.
That said, I'm going to say this. The core of this game, which you mentioned: Quests, low level dungeon runs, etc is damaged. What I mean by that is this: You can still freely quest, and you don't need super elite armor to do a dungeon run. The problem is that the experience gain from quests is negligible as you continue to level up. There also are not as many questers running around unfortunately. There are some, but questers aren't very common now. Questers also have a second issue, with the legal botting system that this game has incorporated. Its not impossible for questers, and that botting system would only be prevalant at later levels. (80's to !00+ areas.) However, at that time, you likely won't be doing quests, or grinding.
Low level dungeon runs are done, but the sad truth is that low leveled squads aren't run as much as they used to be...and when they are, there is a large chance that they may have a high leveled character in them to power them through runs. I'm not saying that its impossible. I'm saying that not as common as you remember.
Sadly, this game is on a "Rush to endgame" track, with several of the last expansions, and even the future expansion which is coming in a few weeks....catering to those of us in the endgame crowd.
As far as Pvp servers, Harshlands and Lost City are PvP. Archosaur, which you mentioned is PvE. Of course, even on a PvE server, you can always go white named (Pk mode activated). Its just that you have a choice in whether or not to do so, whereas pk servers do not. Of course, this also means more risk of pk on pk servers, if that's what you're into.
Regarding armor, at your level, its not really required to have great armor. Good armor for you will even drop inside of the dungeons that you're going to do, so you'll still have good armor.
The main complaint involving gear is in getting certain endgame armor. The drop rate is low, however there are ways to do it.
Is a faction required? No. I've played this game for four years, and I've been factionless from day 1. However, factions would help, or at the least, making friends in the game. Everything cannot be done solo, and you're almost at the level where you'll receive quests for quite a few bosses that you will need help with.
That said, I will say this:
This game doesn't have progression stops per se...in a weird sort of way, despite its flaws, it somehow avoided it, and I'll say why.
Experience/Spirit: I mentioned earlier that the experience game from later quests is pathetic. There is however, an experience dungeon that grants tons of XP. So keep that in mind. Though many lower leveled characters ARE going there to speed through, it is possible to take your time, and approach this dungeon in the 70's and 80's. By this time, you'll know your class, and you'll be able to advance towards your first step of reaching the endgame level.
Morai: Morai is a level 95+ map, and in a way, it saved the gear progression halt that could have easily been there, because of the fact that you can get Morai gear to help. (There are three types. Morai 95, 100, and 101 gear.) This is VERY good PvE gear, and it will boost your abilities a lot, and its cheap to obtain. The level 95 is free to obtain. This gear will get facerolled in Pvp, as its not designed for it, but having it will give you an easier time farming PvE for your endgame gear. (Nirvana G16 is a good option. Second best gear in the game, and its pretty cheap to obtain, all things considered. Hardest part is getting the TT99/Lunar 95 Gold. Once you have that, you're good to go for the most part.
Hopefully this information helps you. I've tried not to give you a biased statement, but rather a clear one, giving you time to consider what you want to do with the information provided."Male Player using female toon. Please don't flirt with me."

You sound like a casual player. Casual non-CSing players will never reach end game. If however you play 50 hours a week and pay some attention to doing lucrative things (doesnt have to be just TT farming all the time) you can reach end game in a few years of playing.
It is no problem obtaining the gear that you need to have fun in PvE. So if no rush for you means, its ok to reach end game in 3-4 years even. You will be fine in this aspect.
Indeed it is hard to find squads for lower level instances and casual playing. But i guess youre not entirely the only one like you so if you give it some time, you may well find friends and a faction that suits you. If you do look for a faction, i would advise against going to a faction with high levels that might help you. Try to find a faction that has many low levels and play together. A faction that has no high levels at all would theoretically be the best imo.Everything i write is from PvE perspective unless mentioned otherwise.0 -

MY toon, before I left, I put about 20 bucks a month into this game. I have my barb with Fash, had charms, and other goodies. Was playing ohh...4-5 hours per day...not to hard core. But my guild was balanced and I was having an ok time.
As of now. I am job hunting so I will not be putting cash into any game until I find a job, that leaves me also tons of time to play F2P...So, a sort of trade off. I can put hours into this (but I do not want burn out so 2-4 per day again), but cash is for sure on the hold...for now...

I suggest ending up with something like 50dex,300str and 150 vit at level 100. (without gear bonusses). This will make it easier for you to stay alive with that vit.
Later you can change this to all strength when you feel ready for it. Changing stats can be done with an item that is sold for that or you can do it when you rebirth.
Read a lot on the barb forums before deciding if you will be demon or sage. I'll not repeat here what i have repeated im every thread about the subject.Everything i write is from PvE perspective unless mentioned otherwise.0 -

They changed the rewards for low level quests a while back so that they're actually worthwhile. It is very easy to level to 80 doing only quests.
Past 80 the quests are still the old style worthless reward so you will have to find other ways to level, usually Frostcovered City squads (which shouldn't be too hard to find with people reawakening their alts).0 -

To be honest, I recommend reading a few of the guides, and taking in information from them to help you. Some of the guides are older, but they do have solid information to them.
As others have said, you won't necessarily be always tanking later on, and at some points you'll go from spamming aggro skills like flesh ream to debuff skills like Devour. Simply means that you will have to become more versatile as you reach endgame. This will first start to manifest around level 89 when aps classes get their demon/sage spark.
WannaBM already gave some good information on stats, and he is a well known barb, so I'd go with that advice. I've more knowledge of statting AA classes than I do others.
But I will say this:
Statting strength to equip your gear, and deal enough damage.
Statting Vitality to survive, since you won't be endgame geared soon. (I personally consider Morai 101, R8, and Nirvana G16 gears to be endgame.) I consider R9rr to be super endgame.
But from how it sounds, you want mainly to be able to survive in PvE for now, and Vitality will help.
Statting some degree of dex will help you equip your weapon, and hit your target. Barbs are not known for their accuracy afterall. Something to note about dex. Every 20 dex = 1% crit rate.
So throwing a random number out there...if you have 78 dex, it may very well be worth it to add another 2 dex to ensure you have that bonus 4% crit rate.
Magic: Do NOT stat this.
The experience dungeon is known as Frostcovered City, and its located in the northern part of the map. The dungeon is located close to another dungeon known as Eden. (Note that this is not the same Frost Dungeon that has Rankar, Fushma, and Wyvern. Most of its mobs are level 80+.)
Also, asking for help on the barb forums might help answer some more class related questions. Hope that helps. b:victory"Male Player using female toon. Please don't flirt with me."

I don't know if you could feel the change, but the quests are actually more worthwhile than they used to be years ago. That, and now you get quite a few goodies for free. Including reflective shards which allow you to gain exp for just being logged in b:pleased So even if you find yourself stuck because there are no interesting quests to do atm, you can leave your character in the realm of reflection and go do something else while your char levels b:cute
I think that getting to endgame is much easier now even if you don't cash shop.
There is a dungeon (FC) that gives really good exp for killing certain mobs, especially if you use hyper stones, but I wouldn't really recommend using it too much, IMO it's better to level slowly and get to know your class. If you just insta-level yourself to 100 you'll find yourself with lots of new skills to learn and no idea what to do with them.0 -
Ok thanks again!
I have Frost dungeon to go check out.
I got caught up on my barb stats (3str, 1 dex, 1 vit per level) and got back into my spell rotation (Ream ream reamm! stay in tiger form for harder mobs, human for faster kill etc). I am following some guides, like this one: http://pwi-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=63271
I learned Feng is not nerfed. So I died. But I am still magically in an old guild with about 5 active players per day...and so some nice person helped me kill both Feng and some mean monster for my cultivation.
Speaking of cultivation, I have to fo to a Fortress of Talon. Which requires a group, and since I can not world chat, and guild not big enough / Online enough to run it (maybe I get lucky to get a higher up to solo it if possible)...I will keep my eye on random group looking to take alts trhough it...Questin being, what level could I tackle it solo by myself if no one helps? I can wait. I am patient. I am currently "Aware of Discord" awaiting to kill 3 bosses in that fortress (which I think is a "dungeon?").
And yes, I noticed quests are nice rewards than before, Going to hunt down the realm of reflection now ^^
Thanks![SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
In archosaur west at the cross roads are many shops who buy and sell tokens of luck.
Buy some of those tokens of luck and take a look at the NPC that stands in the middle of all these shops, the boutique assistant. You can trade tokens here for teles and many other usefull things.Everything i write is from PvE perspective unless mentioned otherwise.0 -
Ok. Two ways to go about it. Get teles and WC for help as WannaBM said (Most efficient Way), or the old way that a lot of us used to do...which is to stand by the headhunter platform in the middle of arch, and use regular chat to ask for help. (Free method, but not necessarily as efficient.)
There is a dungeon there, and you will be running it soon, but the three bosses in that dungeon (Fushma, Rankar, and Wyvern) are not the bosses that you'll need for your cultivation.
There are actually four bosses that you will need for your cultivation. (Commander Fugma, Archmage Kushu, and Drake) Afterwards you will need Architecht. (Some of their names are eluding me at the moment.)
I'm saying this because if you get the help to kill the 3 bosses, you'll still need help on the fourth. You have to do a few quick quests to pick it up, so kindly ask the person helping you to wait for a bit, so that you can get the quest to kill that last one.
Congrats on finding a nice guild too, and its good that you're enjoying the game, and are taking the time to read the guides, as well as ask for advice."Male Player using female toon. Please don't flirt with me."

Not so much "what they do" as to "when to be concernced" about them.
In my bank (I finally guessed my old password), I have:
Dragon orbs, star levels 1, 2 and 3. I found some guide talking about how to combine them etc...When shold I actually worry about this? First thing I usually do is save it for final gear updates, or stonemark moments like "Level 90" etc??
Celestial stones? I think it is about refining EQ? Any advice WHEN is the best moment to do it? Again, collect as many till end game is my rule of thumb, but if you know it is mor usefull to do it sooner.?
I found 10 hyper EXP stones... What is best place to use these? Cultivating or certain dungeon runs?
Crusade order...no idea what it is for, gonna research that soon...
1 perfect horn and 34 telecoustics ehehe. Guess I can spam a lil LFG later on...
In addition, I notice the list of NPC's in Arch. I do not even bother with them and just am running my quest log stuff. But if you recommend I do certain things in ARch like: "Talk to the headhunter" or "Do the X event / daily, it is good exp at your level". I will check it out. Since I am old player, the only thing I do daily that was all the rage back in the day, is the crazy stone....

Highly depends on what you call endgame. TT/Lunar G15 +4 full is within reach of just about anyone with a little grinding.
Up until level 80 quests are a fairly good way to level up. If you want to bullrush through the levels, stack your BHs from 40 upward, do crazy stone and try a bit of autocultivation. Especially if you have one of those Dreamchaser codes/packs... Use the free +5 orbs (with an equipment <lvl 8 restriction) to boost your Royal weapon to +5, add a pair of average garnets/sapphires and you've got a weapon that'll be good enough up until the mid lvl 70's.I'm so P.R.O... I Press Respawn Often.

I'd actualy sell those for a lot of money, u can refine ur gear to +3 with just mirages(for more info u can check pwi-wiki>refining)
Celestial stones? I think it is about refining EQ? Any advice WHEN is the best moment to do it? Again, collect as many till end game is my rule of thumb, but if you know it is mor usefull to do it sooner.?
yes mirage celstones are used for refining eq. ppl ussualy start doing it at lvl 70-90, 90 is absolutly fine. If u talk about celstones of earth, heaven, etc... save 10 of each u will need them for quest later.
I found 10 hyper EXP stones... What is best place to use these? Cultivating or certain dungeon runs?
use them in FF. yes it's posibble to start running FF at lvl 70, it's hard but doable. advicing to wach FF videos before going there and reading guides. Ussualy ppl start FFing at 80. U can aslo use hypers in PV instance too. best to activate 5 at time if u ask me.
Crusade order...no idea what it is for, gonna research that soon...
advice u to don't care about those, they can give ya quest. they drop in TT instance (http://www.pwdatabase.com/pwi/quest/7787)

I'd refine with mirages for now. I'm no expert at combining orbs, so I'll let someone else answer. I will say that for G16 weapons, you need 5 mirages per shot. My luck was horrible, so my magic sword has been orbed from +0 to +7.... Not saying this is how you should do it, but its what I did. Selbronne gave a good idea to sell them also.
Celestial stones? I think it is about refining EQ? Any advice WHEN is the best moment to do it? Again, collect as many till end game is my rule of thumb, but if you know it is mor usefull to do it sooner.?
Personally, for TT70 -TT90, I'd refine it to +3/+4. (Even +2 for some things may be enough.) The reason being is that this gear will be soon replaced by better gear, so its a waste to do too much too early. This rule also applies to shards. I wouldn't advise going beyond flawless shards (Immaculates at the most) Save your mirages up for your endgame gear. Though it may be worth it to refine your G15 up a little higher if you feel the need to do so. (Its the Mirage Celestions that are used to refine. I advise refining up a decent amount, and saving most of them.)
I found 10 hyper EXP stones... What is best place to use these? Cultivating or certain dungeon runs?
FC dungeon is the most common place, and as Selbronne mentioned, Phoenix Valley is also.
Crusade order...no idea what it is for, gonna research that soon...
I always NPC it.

NPC's to talk to:
Headhunter. DEFINTATELY talk to the headhunter. Do your Bh1/2/3 each day if possible.
Charm NPC: I don't remember his name, but he gives free charms daily to players level 60 and below.
Lucidsilver/Lucidgold: 8-8:59/ 9-9:59 server time each day respectively. Chance to give good items. Chance to give crappy items. Fact is though...its free.
Auctioneer: For seeing if anyone is selling any good and cheap items that may be useful for you.
You already know what generic npc's do. Tailor/Blacksmith/Craftsman/Apoth/Merchant/Gem Merchant/ Jewelcraftman/Banker/Mailbox.
As you progress later in the game:
Mysterious old man: Free items once you reach level 100+
Morai Teleporter: Access to Morai map once you're level 95+, and access to its dailies and main quest.
Messenger of Time: Access to OHT maps as you level. You can also get to the primal map from there (and the morai teleporter), once you rebirth. But that's wayyyy down the line. Once you do though, you'll gain access to its main quest, and dailies as well.
PW School Teacher: If you've saved up the pages you get for logging in, you do have access to a nice ring, by trading them with her. 90 pages nets you the best ring. It's not the best ring in the game, but it is very good ring, and it is a substitute for an endgame ring that can be obtained much cheaply, and used earlier than other endgame rings.
Khatru Pup: If you're interested in running cube of fate.
Hope that helps you. Take care and good luck."Male Player using female toon. Please don't flirt with me."

Another NPC worth visiting, at least until level 61 iirc is the Harbinger of Woyn or somesuch. He's on the west side of the pagoda in north arch where all the catshops sell NW related gear, and he gives out a free set of HP and MP charms every day
EDIT: He's here and there in other cities also, but icr where exactly. Somewhere near the centre of town usually I think though
Son of a buscuit! I am 80% EXP away from level 60 lol, had I known I would have taken some charms... Oh well, I have en entire horizontal line in the bank filled with charms...(mostly MP). Thanks for the info, see what he can give me today b:pleased[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
Haha. Don't worry too much.
You aren't missing out since those charms have a 24 hour timer on them to avoid people trying to hoard a ton of them. They're still handy to have though.(Insert fancy image here)0 -

Hi all, I am "necro-ing" this thread because it is relevent.
First, thank you contributors to my original questions. I wrote it all down, and have used it as a guide in my leveling up. I hope this response post catches your attention and you can respond here. Of course this is also open to all others to drop their wisdom.
Looking back at this old thread you will notice we talked about quest lines tapering off around 80 and the best thing to do was PV, FSP, and BH's. Well, I just hit 90 and am a bit of a stale mate.
PV helps A LOT. But out of 5 days of the week and they average like this: 2 PV runs end in failure (noob pug).
2 are very slow (balanced group of 80's and 90's slowly pulling since cant OP the cave. Full cave clear. Only 2% gained on the HP bar.
1 is success and OP player pulls entire PV cave, and we run it 3 times, I usually level or get close.
That is my PV experience. Not very easy to pull off and do other things in a week (requires glued to wc waiting for that one guy asking, then being in luck it is the 1 success run.
I do BH, that is decent. But trickles in the HP. And of course always requires one OP guild member to run it for me.
FSP....I have not recieved a single quest for it, and it is probably going to require I have better gear to even consider being useful in it.
I am fully caught up to my Cultivation Quests. I have all my key spells, and the only thing I miss now, for my level, are some books like "anti-stun" etc...would be nice to have, but so far not neccessary.
So that is where I am at. Just watching WC for those key runs, and now that Jolly Jones is over, I try and do quests that have decent money rewards (some are Charm traps that give too little for what you have to kill).
My question. Am I missing something level 90 on now? Every where I look in guild chat I see Sins log in solo, announcing: "I just soloed PV 80" (Sin level 80) - Next week; "I just got my TT weap" - Next week "Look at all these molds I am showered in farming for mats for my alt" as they now push 95 into level 100. They play casually, and solo.... I am sitting here like "I just died trying to run BH59 Solo"......
"Oh gear problem". OK, I am wearing This: http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii279/Nanbo554/2014-11-2012-45-41.jpg
Notice I have Some Royal pieces and those other pieces that are naturally given as you quest and other pieces (all donated by nice players feeling sorry for me). I tried researching how to get my barb out of this armor rut. And of course the response is: "You need TT90". But to do TT90, I need better gear... So that vicious cycle of "you need this, but can't get it, unless you are wearing it already DERP" or of course get a group...and no one wants low level barb when they can speed run with OP farmers in TT. Thankfully I have nice friends willing to help farm, but that could take some time, their free time. And of course they are not going to burn weeks on lvl90 gear, then turn around to get my G16 lvl 100 stuff. So they are G16 farming for me, and tell me "get to lvl 100 and it is yours"....
So I jokingly reply, "ok in year 2020 ill be 100". Because honostly, that is how long it is taking...I feel like I am missing something because every dya a SIN (my only class to compare since so many new players roll a sin and I have not leveled up with other classes), comes on, we play the same times, same hours, same days, and start same level, and they pass me...no lap me x3 over! IT has happened with at least three new sin players joining guild at level 70, we match each others gear posting our "Royal" weapons....then next week he is R9+... did I miss something?
I understand some classes slower than others, and some can't solo other things others can...but any Barbarian pro's out there have any tips to leveling 90+?
IS there a daily quest or event I should be doing? (besides PV etc.). I usually let the quests guide me to the next map area appropriate for my level, so far nothing special just that silly "World History" quest.... I DID GET THE PERFECT DAILY ATTENDENCE RING! Woo! (90 pages).
I am currently eyeing the axe: Calamity Axes of Blood http://www.pwdatabase.com/pwi/items/8287 as an upgrade. Since it requires mostly open world resources to make (lumber etc..) and I have the mold... It is a small step in the right direction I guess...
Any how. Any suggestions would be welcomed. I have a very strong feeling there is no secret spot I am missing. I probably just need to get luckier in PV or start multiboxing??? I Dunno, any tips hints or anything would be appreciated!
Thanks![SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -

Any thread over one month (30 days) old is considered to be a dead thread and you're not supposed to post in them. The person you are replying to probably doesn't care any more or can no longer be found on the forums. The topic itself could be out of date. Next time just make a new thread.

WOW, Ultimate troll reward goes to you this week.
YOu reply seconds after I post (meaning you DID NOT READ, you just look at dates and start accusing).
2) that "The person you are replying to probably doesn't care any more or can no longer be found on the forums." I AM THAT PERSON! And I said it "is relevent" because of that.
Also, I wrote "it would be nice of those original two people could respond to it. But it is open to all others".
Your "necro" theory is silly. There are guides that date to 2008 still active. Tons of links and conversations from 2005 THAT ARE STILL RELEVENT and pop up as the number one GOOGLE search result....Stop trying the **** the forums. Read. Be helpful. Know ur necro, and I am posting this now as a seperate thread to get over your ignorance.[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]0 -
That's a bot and yes its annoying and to be honest no thread that 4 months old should be a necro..maybe one that's a year old.
Anyways Just apply yourself more you seem to lag behind on how to gain exp.Do All dailies and ****,afk bot grind while you gone from game..use hyper on everything..etc etc.0 -
