Why isn't my crafting giving me exp?

I just seemingly wasted tons of materials I've been grinding to collect. I'm a level 4 blacksmith (haven't worked on it in years) and I just made a level 4 axe then a level 5 scythe. Neither one of them boosted my experience at all, it still says level 4 with 33% in the manufacturing screen!

What could I possibly be doing wrong?

    To get exp at lvl 4 you need to craft items over lvl 7. Items crafted under that lvl wont award exp.

    If you want to know which item can give you exp you only need to check where it says "Blacksmith Skill Lv. 4", if it's under your concurrent level you are not going to get anything from it.

    Wow, that's going to take forever then.

    The stupid wiki crafting guide simply says to manufacture level 4 weapons to get it done, sigh...

    Yeah, the confusion arises out of the fact that crafted gear has 2 level stats; one for the craft skill level, the other for the minimum level of toon it can be equipped to.

    Yes, it is meant you need to craft items of certain grade to improve your lvl4 skills (grade 7 in this case). Because grades of gear don't coincide with craft lvls. Higher grade means you can fuse better gems into it. Long ago higher grade was supposed to refine better but nowadays with great variety of items for each lvl it's not always so.
