Hello everyone, I have bough a new SSD and i have attached it to my computer instead of my Cd Rom. I have the OS on the HDD...I was wondering will moving the game to the SSD will be better than having it on the HDD.
Note: i am using windows xp with 4gb ram and a 2.3GHz dual core processor.

Best thing would be to have your operating system installed on your SSD which will let your PC boot up faster you could also put the game on your SSD but i prefer not to put the SSD full of **** but only the operating system.

But since you have the OS on the HDD i don't think it'll mind to put the game on the SSD

Edit: Tho i wouldn't do it personally tbh because SSD mainly gets used to boot ''heavy'' programs and i doubt that PWi is a that heavy program unless your pc is quiet old since you still run on xp it might be better tho but i'm not an expert on that case.

I agree that putting both the game and the OS on the SSD would be the better option, since having the game on the SSD and the OS on the HD, it'll read it like it's reading a flash drive (albeit maybe a bit faster). Correct me if I'm wrong b:surrender

Yea i guess so too Microsoft pulled down their security service for XP also this year so it might be a good advice to upgrade to (atleast) windows Vista so that your PC keeps protected against malware for sure.

Maybe a good idea would be to ask SylenThunder I think he's more into the Technical stuff concerning the PW weight because as said thats not my partition :p

My main pc is using windows 8 but for gaming pc i prefer windows xp as i dont need the functions that eats up the ram in windows 7/8.
Its not the same as flashdrive as its not a usb connection..its a SATA
what i have in my head...the connection (thus the speed) of the SSD is the same in both cases whether the OS is on it or not...but when only the game files are being read/write it will be faster than if the speed is shared by something else.

No, I understand that, I just meant that it might be slower than if both were on the same hard drive.

But overall, it shouldn't affect it that much.

This is correct. In addition, an SSD is just plain faster than an HDD at searching for the files, which happens frequently enough in most programs (games included). So unless you're hurting for space or you don't care enough about load time boosts, you can put pwi on your SSD. If it's your main game, highly recommend putting it on the SSD for sure.

Dropping PWI on a SSD isn't going to net you a whole lot of improvement. I'm running mine on a RAID and the drive speeds are almost the same of an SSD (but with a slightly larger buffer), and the increase in performance was very minimal.

At best it's going to improve the loading times when switching areas. Your biggest bottleneck is the CPU and you'll get the best improvement by speeding up the OS from installing it on the SSD.

With XP though, your overall improvement is going to be pretty flat either way. It can't take advantage of the newer technology. Grab a Win7 license cheap.

Moving PWI to an SSD -can- make a significant improvement, especially if you're porting into an area with a lot of activity or objects (such as exiting an instance into Archosaur). It will also speed up the start time of the game a lot. However, it won't make any difference in terms of framerate or lag.

An SSD is faster in finding data (low "seek" time). HDDs are faster in providing large bursts of consecutive data. Games usually rely more on seek time then burst.
