Why am I unable to play in high with a decent frame rate?

I have recently bought a new computer and I am unable to get more than 10fps on high settings, no matter if the area is populated or isolated. On low, I get 50fps in an isolated area and 20-30fps in cities.

Operating System
Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1
CPU
AMD FX-6300 6 core
Vishera 32nm Technology
RAM
8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 802MHz (11-11-11-28)
Motherboard
ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. M5A99X EVO R2.0 (Socket 942)
Graphics
VX238 (1920x1080@60Hz)
2048MB ATI AMD Radeon R7 200 Series (Sapphire/PCPartner)
Storage
111GB Samsung SSD 840 EVO 120G SATA Disk Device (SSD)
931GB Seagate ST1000DM 003-1CH162 SATA Disk Device (SATA)

I'm not sure if there is anymore information I can give that would be beneficial.
If anyone has a solution or a reason as to why my frame rate is so low, I'd be grateful.

I will need a copy of the output from a dxdiag.txt file, and a link to a published Speccy report taken while you are having the issues.
(Remember to use the [code] tags for the dxdiag info and to remove any trademark characters so it doesn't get cut off.) (CODE tag is the # symbol in the editor.)

And here is the Speccy, http://speccy.piriform.com/results/17NnsALtEILmSguOl1NezKp

I hope I did as you asked correctly. xD
    That's just perfect.

    For the simple stuff....
    1. You've got an AMD/ATI GPU. Not that they're really bad, but they are notorious for having display compatibility with older programs.
Not to slam ATI, but they lost the GPU war many years ago, and got purhcased by AMD. Since then, I'm not really sure why they're still around. Most developers are designing specifically for Nvidia now.

    2. I think there's a newer driver, that's not likely to change a lot, but it can help with compatibility sometimes.

    3. The client does not like to run well in fullscreen at that resolution. I'll be doing some testing later on a system with a 6-core i7 and a 2GB GTX770ti, but be aware that the client was originally designed with a max resolution of 1280x1024.

    Now for the Speccy....

    1. You're using Microsoft Security Essentials. Stop that. b:chuckle
If you want free, go with something like Avast or Avira. Or pony up and get a real security solution like BitDefender or AVG. (Avoid Norton and McAfee)

    2. As far as processes go, it's looking pretty clean. The only thing I see there is the Asus Wifi bloatware. The system was only up for 2 minutes at the time of the Speccy report, so the system may not be fully loaded yet.

Personally, with the CPU limitations and the way the client processes the graphics, it's going to be damn hard to get a decent framerate on any system. I get about the same framerates on my Core2 Quad 6600 with a GTX 650 1GB and only 4GB of system RAM.

That cleared a lot of things up thanks.

Do you suggest I go for Nvidia?

If you have a decently up-to-date card, I wouldn't worry about it. When you're looking to upgrade, get Nvidia.

I would like to point out that this game was written to do most of the graphics using the CPU and not the GPU originally, and after looking at your machine specs the first thing I would suggest you change is your RAM as 800 FSB leads to slow load times and affects the FPS of any early game which uses the CPU to do most of the graphics processing.

It appears from the specs you have given,
Your motherboard and CPU are capable of using 1600-1833 FSB using this would immediately give you twice the bandwidth to and from the CPU leading to much better loading and fps instantly.

In later games a lot more of the graphics processing is done by the cards and they definitely benefit from newer cards.

This is personal opinion but after years as an OEM/OSinstaller I tend to find Intel with Nvidia and AMD with ATI the least problematic setups for me to setup.

As too which is best its "Different horses for different courses."

They did loose that war, but they perform a lot better in mining crytocoin over Nvidia. There have been times certain cards were unavailable because all of them were bought out.

Can I achieve this with overclocking?

That would depend on whether your installed hardware could handle the higher voltages and is manufacturer specific for each device in your machine.

I personally never recommend overclocking as running cpu, motherboard bus and memory over the normal voltage specs tends to shorten the life span, due to the extra thermal loading, unless you are willing to outlay for liquid cooling for CPU, Memory, video card and both northbridge and southbridge chips as well.

Faster RAM would be far cheaper and less demanding for the power supply.

Well, I believe I have decent cooling. I have quad fans and a liquid cooling system that should help keep temperatures low if I was to overclock.

you could try overclocking, but you need to research it first. and research each of your hardware's max temps and stuff. i personally dont think OC is bad, but it can lead to buying new parts if you are not careful.

Ok, looking into your speccy report deeper, I note that the current motherboard bios memory timings are (11-11-11-28) and that closely resembles the JEDEC #6 timings shown further down in the rams possible timings list.

    JEDEC #6
    Frequency: 838.1 MHz
    CAS# Latency: 11.0
    RAS# To CAS#: 11
    RAS# Precharge: 11
    tRAS: 30

    tRC: 41

These settings are not ideal as they lead to wasted clock cycles in this case tRAS = 28 for the board and tRAS = 30 for JEDEC #6 for the memory modules native timings.

    After reading this article,
    http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/297159-30-1600mhz

I would suggest you go into the motherboard bios ram timings and change the timings to the ones shown under the heading,

    XMP-1600
    Frequency: 800 MHz
    CAS# Latency: 8.0
    RAS# To CAS#: 8
    RAS# Precharge: 8
    tRAS: 24

From the above article it appears this setting will give you a true FSB of 1600.

Only do this if you are familiar with the methods for resetting a failed bios to factory defaults when the machine will not boot at all, know how to clear and the correct reset bios method for your motherboard before you start.

    Disclaimer:
You do this at your own risk,
I will not be responsible for any damage.

I will look into doing so, but only after research. I am inexperienced with that sort of stuff so I want to know what I am doing before doing something wrong.

Sry about the time for reply was weekend here lol

Reading about your motherboard from the manual supplied here,
    http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M5A99X_EVO/#support

It appears you can create a standard Bios profile and save it first before you begin, this will allow you to reset easy, also you have a failsafe memory Freq. reset button as well in case anything goes wrong. (Nice board by the way).

Looking at the available Bios settings the first thing I would try would be changing MEM Freq setting under the AI tweaker section which is set to Auto by default, to the 1600MHz setting, this may then select the correct timings without anything more being done, other than to save and reboot.

If this still does not select the correct timings, I would then manually change the 4 settings needing to be changed under the DRAM Timing control section of the Bios AI tweaker.

By the way non of this is overclocking we are setting the timings for the best native Ram timing in the Ram manufacturers possible table of timings and according to the manual this board will support these settings np.

The 1 possible problem you may have is not all AMD CPUs fully support the new XMP-1600
timings from what I read and I have not looked into your CPU fully yet, will let you know if I find out more.

    Added CPU Note.
Cannot find exact available CPU timings but this Link
    http://sites.amd.com/us/Documents/AMD_FX_Performance_Tuning_Guide.pdf
    suggests the settings will work.

    Quick Note:
    About Overclocking definition,
O/C usually involves doing things such as raising the FSBs multiplier by 1 unit at a time therefore increasing the CPUs Overall Freq. This is normally results in a slight increase in the voltage to all attached components and they must be capable of handling the higher voltage both electrically and thermally.

In this case the changes are built in manufactures native specs and strictly speaking not overclocking as we are remain within built in specs for the hardware but using better settings to sync all the devices attached to the bus resulting in less lost clock cycles

Be aware that the results from Speccy are not always accurate too, my Speccy report always shows incorrect readings for voltages, not just inaccurate, but wildly inaccurate ones such as +8 volts on a -12 volt line lol, scared the heck out of me till I used Bios monitor to check they were ok, lol.

For double checking Speccy results for CPU, Motherboard and Rams physical settings I use other programs, like CPU-Z a small freeware program you can google.

As a last piece of advise since you are new at this check, check and then check again before you do anything, BACKUP, if you are not sure what you are doing then don't, till you google/ask someone enough to be sure of what you are doing.

If you need more detailed help it may be better to take this to PM level rather than clutter up the forums with my dribbel, lol.
