So as normal, while at work, I am mining the depths of the PWI forums and came across this little gem. Truely worthy of getting necroed; but, damn, I am too nostagic to send this one to the lower depths.

Anyways enjoy the thread
PWI in 5 years from July 2009.

It is only 3 paged long and interesting reading what players thought back then.

That was an interesting read and see what players thought. Way back then I wouldn't have expected to stick around for 5 years either although I took a lot of breaks in-between some of which lasted 4-6 months.

A lot of updates have made me sad or disappointed but I still enjoy the core of the game. I'm part of a great faction that while it may get quiet at times, it's mostly noisy, people chat, run things together, discuss interesting topics and have fun. I've also met some great people with whom I keep in touch outside of the game too. Those very same people remained friends ever after I took prolonged breaks from playing.

Although I didn't imagine myself sticking around for 5 years, I'll eventually quit and move on to another game or something else.

In my opinion the game is still very enjoyable, despite all the negatives, as long as your priority is to have have and enjoy it. Sometimes I forget this, especially when I get caught up in PvP stuff though f:defeat

The most striking thing about that thread is the near-total lack of cynicism that has infested this forum since 2010 or so. It's that sense of community optimism which I miss the most.

The game is still playable and fun, if you're willing to ignore a lot of sloppy translation/localization and some confusing, occasionally contradictory content. Then you're good to go until endgame. At endgame...... it's time to find a new game. -_-

Yes, I'm still a stubborn holdout in favor of the old game. Haters gonna hate. ;]

Inflation. The economy will naturally become more inflated over time as any economy does. Having 10m will seem "poor" and 1bil+ will seem "rich". Marketing will become one of the only ways to make a real income. Mark my words. Happens in every game.

If they continue the way they are going however, PWI will continue to be one of the best F2P games around.

Predictions? A lv150 level cap. New map area, new content. A ton more cash shop outfits, mounts, items. Complainers (as always). People ragequitting (as always). Probably a new class eventually. A few new mini-games. TW resets eventually being implemented, but being too little-too late.

This guy was pretty accurate, except the 150 level cap part. Very interesting read as a thread. Of course it's always funny when doomsayers are proven wrong. "The world's coming to an end." Samuel Mfing Jackson said it best: "Until such time as the world ends, we will act as though it intends to spin on".

Most of the posts did happen already, a single player perfect world rpg with today's 3d capabilities would be great, but not gonna happen I guess.

    Happier times...
Though there were still lots of complaining back then, at least things were much more lively and the community was better.

    Well damn....

Most of that prediction was due to the way my first F2P mmo went. I quit that game to join PWI. I guess in the end every game eventually goes down this path. Missed the mark on the lv150 sadly. b:chuckle (DarkSeph is my alt)

God this thread made me so so sad ... I started PWI at September 2008 , just 1 month after the beta opened ... most of the things became real , but in the twisted way ... i don't know why i ALWAYS quit PWI and ALWAYS return here ... it is my first major MMORPG I played , the first game where i made friends whom i still speak with ... a bit funny that i still haven't got to 100 ... who knows maybe if i haven't lvled all these alts , never cared to be top or elite , i wanted to have fun , but seems fun is something that is forbidden in here

    I miss those times .... a lot

Damn, that thread kinda made me sad. I didn't join PWI until a month after the Rising Tide expansion came out, so I missed out on a time when the game was the most enjoyable. So different from what it is now. f:cry

    And the winners are:
Inflation. The economy will naturally become more inflated over time as any economy does. Having 10m will seem "poor" and 1bil+ will seem "rich". Marketing will become one of the only ways to make a real income. Mark my words. Happens in every game. b:laugh

In five years... PWI's graphic engine will be nothing special when compared with new games, but they will have gotten most of the bugs out of them, and they will have introduced some interesting story lines and lots of entertaining quests and instances and various new forms of high-end gears and we will have several large map expansions and someone will be very unhappy about something (because someone always is) and we will have people saying how great things used to be, and other people saying how awesome they are now, and we will have new threads asking how to quit the game, and so on..

    just 2 tiny errors
Everything i write is from PvE perspective unless mentioned otherwise.

Sorry to pee in your Wheaties, but I do admit it is a little sad. Not so much the topic and posts it is the players that have left for RL other game, or whatever their reasons.

I also started playing about a month after open beta and was a complete noob.

    Archer with MAG points...um...reroll.
Barb iwth MAG and DEX...um...reroll again.

Decided to ACTUALLY READ the forums and how to build a class properly = BIG difference.

First home server was LOST CITY where I became intmately familiar with RageQuits (and here is a walk down memory lane) DestroyTokyo, bigtime, and Elaniaaa. I must have wrong them in a previous lifetime time because those three would PK me everytiime I was out questing.

Second server was HARSHLAND wher I enjoyed the exploits of Poww, Ray, and the farming PKer ascii. Ascii taught me to ALWAYS keep an eye on your mini map outside of safe zone or he would tempest yo azz. b:shocked

Home now is RAGING TIDES and like the other servers familiar names here have left but many still remain and new ones enter; and, that is what keeps me here.

The day I leave is when longtime faction-mates leave and there are no new one entering.
