Advice with going r9

Hiya y'all. Pelli's back in da house after a four months break away from PWI to focus on school and during that time, I've been wondering, and talked with some friends about r9, and I was swayed away by the offer, especially since I now have a job and some money income to by me some R9 next time there's a sale.

I was just being curious, as I'm awfully unfamiliar with R9 on a veno, but I'm just asking for some advice on how I should re-allocate my points as a former LA veno into a glass cannon-ish veno with some vitality to boost survivability.

Anyone got some advice for me? O:

If you're going full R9rr your options are pure magic build or vit build.
There are various things to consider though before making your choice.

    Cultivation.
In PvE I guess it wouldn't matter too much but in PvP Sage Venomancers typically work better in vit builds than Demons. Sages are slightly more defence/support oriented while Demons are slightly more offence oriented.
This is not absolute as there are Venomancers like Azura who are Demon and are vit builds but the ideal is, in theory, usually for Demons to go pure magic because your extra crit, additional debuffs and whatnot cater towards higher spike damage. Sages on the other hand have the "less powerful but more reliable" thing going for them. You may not really kill people as easily but they'll certainly not kill you as easily either.

    PvE only? PvP only? Both?
If you're mostly going to PvE then disregard everything and go pure magic. Your defences/HP from R9rr are really enough for PvE unless you won't be able to get a decent refine/shard level.

    Refines and Shards.
What are your plans in that matter? Something like +7 with Morai shards will already place you at 10k HP, not counting Meridian bonuses. Some decent ornaments along with cape/hat will give you decent defences too. That's something achievable short-term but what about long-term? Are you going to stop there? Work for better? Just think about what you'll get. The armor alone is not enough by itself after all.[/

    Playstyle.
Some people just hate the pure magic glass cannon builds while others can't really deal with too much vit. Others like to have a bit of vit and the rest in magic. I'd personally say that if you're going vit you might as well go all the way.

I guess this isn't really answering your questions but maybe it gives you some food for thought and decide on what might be most fitting. I'd probably be able to suggest more if I know better what are your plans, cultivation, playstyle etc.

Well, I am considering going full r9rr, switching to that from being an LA veno before.

I'm currently sitting with a demon cultivation with only 2 demon skills missing, and I wouldn't trade my culti for the world.

I actually love to do both, and I had specifically done my veno in a way do I would be slightly better build for PvP rather than PvE. I do love me some Warsong, though.

Well, my main plan is to try to make my r9rr set to +10, though that should take a while indeed. For the shards, I'm either planning on looking at some HP shards or some P.def shards until I can muster some money to eventually go JoSD at some random point in the future. I already have the first cast warsong belt, I want to get a Cloud Stir eventually for my veno along with the r9 ring and eventually move in with a cube nexk with all of that. For the cape and helm, I already have the LA cape and helm so I should be fine with that, on top of the HP boost that comes from the first set bonus.

As for my playstyle, I'm someone that often goes for the kills rather quickly when I have a window of opportunity, and I'm otherwise a veno bent on doing some support stuff, such as purging and keeping other people in place to protect my global objectives in any kind of PvP involved. PvE-wise, I'm incredibly bent on dealing a lot of damage with the help of my pets.

I'm a bit rusty as I've just returned from a 4 months break, but I should get the hang of my veno soon enough. :D

    *Hi5s Demon buddies*

In that case I would probably suggest going for a magic build from the start and see how you like it. If you're going to need 104 str (I think?) for the LA cape/hat I think it would be unnecessary to add some points to vit. If you like going for the kill, better get as much magic as possible.
The LA cape/hat should give you more HP since, like you say, they are LA. This upcoming expansion is going to grant us more points so that should help you achieve a "pre-New Horizons" pure magic build (probably won't be considered pure magic 'post-New Horizons').

In due time, however, I'd probably suggest trying to get AA versions of them when considering your endgame goal for maximizing your damage potential while your refines/shards/ornaments will take care of HP and defences. Act upon your progress on the gear and see what needs to be done.

Remember that R9rr is a different gear level. We say glass cannon but compared your what your current LA gear, it's probably stronger. *

If you like PvP do build your character around that and don't worry too much about PvE.

*Would depend on refines and shards and all that but it's generally like that. Well refined HA/LA have their perks but R9 is..R9 heh :P

    Thank you desdi :3

But, considering I have absolutely no idea when the next rank sale is going to occur, so right now, I'm just gathering the supply tokens I need for the second cast and I'll probably gonna start farming warsong again to get me some badges for third cast.

Until then, I'll continue to stick by my LA gear/stuff until I know when the next sale is going to occur and I have the actual money for it, as I am finding myself lacking the budget to go r9 right now ;P

Mhm that's a good plan. You'll at least have everything ready once you get your hands on the materials.

    my experience \o/

i was a T3 LA veno, and to keep an advantage from my build my steps were:

    -R9r2 weapon
    -r9r2 belt
    -emperor

once i had those, i saved to get all the remaining pieces and the reset scrolls at once, so there wasn't a moment in which i wasn't a killing machine :o

As for the stats, i kept the minimum necessary str and dex using the dex from the cape and the emperor to wear the helmet (and ofc a rounded to 20 dex to get a free crit \o/).

The emperor tome can change a lot of things around but it is very costly so I didn't consider it. Do got for it if you can afford it.
As far as I recall an emperor tome costs about as much as a r9 set, at least on my server.

As my veno is my only main, and with the fact I basically have no alts over 100 or even a sin at all, I didn't consider the emperor tome because it is not cost effective in my point of view, no matter how overpowered it is.

It will probably be one of the last items I'll gather for my potential endgame build. Right now, my main goal is to re-stat once I have all of my r9 gear and the likes so I still have some gear advantage. Then, after that, I'll start itemizing towards other gears such as the emperor or the cloud stir ring and my cube neck.

Thank you for this thread! I had considered for so long if I really wanted to go r9 or not. I decided to go ahead and get my t3 gear and refine and see if I really wanted to go through with it. Might make it easier to get r9rr molds anyway! f:victory
